My first favorite season is summer. It hasn't always been the case.

It used to be Autumn- Fall- FOOTBALL SEASON - Indian Summer. All of that.

But where I live Autumn kind of blends into winter with not much in the change of colors like you get in NY

Summer in socal is sun and fun and Pool season. Backyard swim parties with potlucks and watching kids swim in my pool

it's a great season.  I Love it

but football season is coming and Im stoked not gonna lie 🙂

Summer is King for me.….

Amen!

Outside of the elderly and those with health issues, the amount of whining about it being too hot here in Buffalo when it gets above 80 is kind of pathetic.

Summer by far. When it's February, my wife and I go to a southern destination for warmth. Either Mississippi (where eventually we will have a winter home), or a Caribbean cruise. Love the summer time activities.

Fall is a close second. Nothing like going cider tasting when the leaves are golden.

Spring and winter? Nah bro. I'm good.

I can understand winter if you don't like the cold but what is wrong with spring? Temps start warming up and the weather is comfortable just like in the fall.

Until we install a drainage system in our back yard, it's mud season for when our dog has to come inside from doing potty business outside.

Plus, we've been in Mississippi when it's 40 degrees out. There's a warmth to 40s there. When it's 40 degrees in Buffalo, and snow melting, it's definitely a much colder feeling.

Spring is taunting, much like the gap between the SB and Opening Day.

Now if the Sabres could fill that void…..

Hockey is my 2nd favorite sport behind football. But the NHL playoffs is one of the best times of the year for sports. IMHO

The “no rest for the wicked” sentiment is quite evident in the NHL.  What a grind it is for the finalists playing to late June and having to be back in camp in September…..especially for the team not carrying the Cup all summer.

I have the same issue with my yard, and it makes it impossible to enjoy nice spring days. Spring seems like it should be a nice season, but typically just rains all the time. In WNY it’s not the passing summer rain type either, it’s cold rain all day long. Spring in WNY just feels more like a continuation of late winter minus the snow, and suddenly summer shows up.

Autumn often appeals to poets both for its beauty and the poignancy of life on the cusp of winter, which is metaphor for death, yet also sleep and the dreaming season that quietly awaits the rebirth of spring. It also holds the holidays that appeal to children and those who remember the joy and simplicity of the child-like. Further, it is football season, the playoffs for baseball, the beginning of hockey. Folks can favor other seasons. I don’t mind them being wrong.

Growing up in WNY I tend to think Spring = Mud. We had to keep a roll of paper towels by the back door to wipe the dog’s paws every time she came inside, and that still wasn’t really good enough.

We have to keep a bucket of water near the door. When our dog comes in, we have to dip his paws in the water, then wipe them off with a towel.

Spring comes only ahead of winter in my rankings, though it is nice to get those few warm spring days after such a long and gloomy winter. We would go out in shorts and tee shirts to play basketball when it was still too cold for the ball to really bounce right. Teaches you to pass when the basketball bounces like a medicine ball.

We’ve been in the process of fixing our backyard grading and drainage since we moved here in 2022. We’ve come a long way but usually when June rolls around we are dry as a bone so unmotivated to fix the remaining swales that we ultimate want to reimagine into a dry pond.

It’s made a difference so far with our two dogs, but the Feb-May paw wiping is a nightmare, I agree.
