I don’t care if the guy doesn’t even know the playbook, he needs to play and start as soon as he’s physically able. Get over yourself with holding guys back and worrying about BS spec teams guys. Put him in man coverage and let’s go. It’s not that complicated

Seriously. You drafted the guy in the first round at a position of need. If he is mostly healthy you throw him out there and develop him as best you can. Enough of the BS.

Other than putting him in man I fully agree. He played in a zone heavy defense at Kentucky if I’m not mistaken.

Might be asking a lot of a rookie in likely his 1st game, if he can come back that soon.

There’s gonna be bumps along the way no matter what. The best way for him to get better is to get him out in the field against good NFL offenses.

We could be realistic and manage expectations if we had the luxury in the schedule to allow that. We don’t. We are rolling out a burnt Tre White and a Benford who has been average at best. Max needs to play, and he needs to play well.

This is what he means by managing expectations. What you're wanting isn't what's going to happen.

You can't expect a Rookie who missed half of Training Camp, all of the Pre-Season, and hasn't practiced with the team since July to a.) Play the week his practice window opens up and b.) Immediately play a large amount of snaps.

He'll have his practice window opened up. Then he'll get a week of Practice, be inactive that week, get the next week of Practices, and maybe they'll activate him for that game. Though it wouldn't surprise me to see McDermott want him to get all 21 days in before activating him to play. And then when they do activate him, at least that first week (probably multiple weeks), they'll be cycling him in on a snap count to get his sea legs under him.

They aren't going to change his development plan and possibly hinder it by pushing him before they think he's ready, based on panicking over Tre. I wouldn't expect him to start until like Week 11 or 12 at the earliest and that's if all goes swimmingly.

If you want Tre out of the lineup now, you have to cross your fingers for them bringing in another vet in FA or Trade.

I expect there to be a ramp up period. Maybe that 1st game he only comes in for certain situations.

If you can't at least do that, and the defense is too complex, then we need a new defense. Wasn't the reason that Dorseys offense failed, was because it was too complex for the offense, but opposing defenses said it was very predictable and easy to read.

I'm starting to get similar vibes with our defense.

If you mean the first week as in the first week he's activated, absolutely. He'll be on a snap count where if all goes well, he'll get continually more over a span of a few weeks.

But if you mean the first week as in the first week off of his practice window opening up he'll be playing in a game - no. They aren't going to dress him until he's practiced with the team for at least two weeks.

Correct. I fully expect 2 full weeks of practice at the min, more likely McD uses the full 21 days.

What is bizarre is most first rounders start day one; if injured, start when they are healthy.  Bills like to use that first round as a developmental pick and "coach em up" to an average starter after quite a few games into the season.  Basically, what all 31 other teams use for the 5th round or later picks.  Hairston should see the field the second he is healthy or Buffalo should not have spent a 1st round pick on him.  That is the entire reasoning behind 1st rounders being so valuable, cant seem to figure out why Beane and Co. do not get this concept.

Until we start hitting on day 1 and day 2 picks, we should start shipping them away for proven talent. The Rams won them a Superbowl, and they had one down year, and are immediately right back in it.

Beane does much better on day 3, for whatever reason.

Problem solved.

I think if Hairston came in playing as well as Trey Amos or Will Johnson (CBs selected after him), there wouldn’t be this “one toe in” approach that we’re seeing out of the coaching staff. If they like the rookie enough, he’ll play over the vet.

I agree. beane clearly has no idea how to scout WRs. Might as well trade again for a proven one since he doesn’t know how to scout.
