Mina Kimes just casually throwing Buffalo in there.

this is a trait of any team on the cusp of a championship. they're always linked to players like this. especially in the interest of the player and agent - they want teams to think the best teams want to sign someone this good

The real question is would you rather have this guy or a better starting safety?  IMO, our safeties are in greater need of an upgrade.

There are no safeties available who would be a definite upgrade over our starters.

Cant say that about Jaire who would walk into a starting spot across Benford

I don't see how it makes any sense for him to play in Buffalo.

1. you just paid benford

2. you just invested a 1st rounder in Max

3. Jaire probably isn't signing for 1 year

So if you sign him, you basically are benching your first round pick for multiple seasons

Sub packages. You’d see all 4 of Hairston, Benford, Alexander and Johnson on occasion.

and you could also argue that Hairston is better off in nickel and dime packages as he gets his play strength up

The GB prez was actually quoted in saying, Great Player, but we're used to playing without him.

OUCH!!!

Oh BURN

On paper, Alexander has only played one (almost) full season in the last 4 - 2022.  4 games in 2021, 7 games in 2023 and 2024.

But in practice, it's worse than that.  For example, he played 7 games last season, but of the 7 he played he platooned in one of them working his way back in, then only played 14% of the snaps in another before getting hurt again.  Missed the 2nd half of the season and the playoff game.

also none of the 4 are iron men

We may have tried to get him. But we obviously pivoted to spending a 1st Round Pick on Maxwell Hairston and signing Tre White as veteran insurance (not to mention also Drafting Dorian Strong and Jordan Hancock, who may or may not fall under the Safety Depth chart). I think the ship has sailed on whatever our interest in Alexander was.

The CB room is crowded now as is. To bring him in would mean Maxwell Hairston would be playing the Kaiir Elam role of 3rd Outside CB that doesn't really see the field outside of injury (and may be a healthy scratch like Elam was for his lack of Special Teams).

On top of that, with Benford, Alexander, Hairston, and Taron as locks - that would leave 1 spot (maybe 2) for all of Tre White, Dorian Strong, Ja'Marcus Ingram, and Dane Jackson. Possibly even Jordan Hancock if they decide he's only a Nickel CB.

That's called competition, and they have the practice squad for the rooks

offer him a 1 year deal with huge incentives for playing time and INTs

convince him he gets the chance to "re-establish" himself as a top 5 CB who can stay on the field

and get huge $$$$ from someone next year

don’t you prefer to see Hairston play ?

You have to cut them first. A 5th Round Pick (Hancock) and the #1 Pick in Round 6 (Strong) are no guarantees to be able to be brought back on the PS. I could easily see one or both scooped up if cut. Even if we were able to get them back, they could be poached at any time on the PS.

You're playing with fire releasing Rookies before Late Round 6 or 7. We've never cut a player we've Drafted before Round 6 as a Rookie. I don't see any way that they Drafted both of those guys with no plan in mind and would move on from both.

And again, even if I subscribed to that, that would mean we spent a 1st Round Pick on Maxwell Hairston to not really see the field unless there's an injury. Jaiire Alexander isn't signing with a team that he has to "compete" for a Starting job. We'd have to give him the starting gig or he'd sign somewhere else that would guarantee him that.

Well usually these guys end up with former coaches because of the familiarity and the amount of risk involved.

So

His DC's in GB were

Mike Pettiine - Currently the Assistant Head Coach/OLB Coach in Minnesota

Joe Barry - Currently the Linebackers coach and run game coordinator in Miami

Secondary coaches in GB

Jason Simmons - Currently the defensive pass game coordinator in Washington

Jerry Gray - Currently the Assistant Head Coach/Defense in Atlanta

Joe Whitt Jr. - Currently the Defensive Coordinator in Washington.

Very interesting analytic framework. Well done, sir.

We also have never had 4 corners the caliber of Benford, Johnson, Hairston (projected) and theoretically Jaire Alexander.

There's a reason for that. There's two Starters on the Boundary and one starter in the Nickel. Teams don't have legitimate star quality caliber 4th CB's bc no one like Alexander is signing to be a Backup and you don't spend a 1st Round Pick on a guy to be a Backup before you even get to Training Camp.

ah this is where I disagree because I think Hairston needs to get functionally stronger before he should become an every down starter. He's going to be a liability in the run game, he's going to struggle taking on WR blockers....he just needs to get stronger, and more durability that goes with it.

Ideally, he's playing both inside/out (he's excellent in Zone) on passing downs.

If they believed he was a liability and wasn't ready, they wouldn't have spent a 1st on him. Like any young player, he's going to take his lumps and have to get up to speed with the NFL game. But he has to play to do that. Which won't happen if we sign Alexander to put alongside Benford. Boundary CB isn't a rotational spot like DL.

Like we did when we Drafted Elam in Round 1, we took Strong in the 6th as insurance. And signed Tre White as vet insurance for both of them. They've got fallback plans in the event Hairston doesn't look ready. But they aren't just going to relegate him to the bench before they so much as evaluate him in the Pre-Season and Training Camp after spending a 1st on him.

It's really simple, if they wanted Alexander to start (which again, he'll have to be given or he won't sign here) they'd have made the move for him and not Drafted Hairston in Round 1, on top of the other things they did. They decided not to deal for him and used the 1st on Hairston instead, when the Draft compensation for Alexander would have been much less than what we spent on Hairston. Now he's a Free Agent. Great. It doesn't change the fact that they already moved on from that idea and filled his potential spot.

And on top of all of the other things, we have 2m to our name right now. We don't even have the money to sign our Draft Picks right now and need to come up with even more later to pay the Practice Squad, go from the Top 51 cap figure to 53, and have spending money for the season. Idk how you're also adding a Jaiire Alexander contract on top of that.

Sometimes thats true.

She knows her stuff and is probably guessing that if they were interested in him before the draft they may still be interested at the right price.

I think we all prefer to field the most competitive team possible (whether that’s with Mad Max or whoever starting) so maybe one day we can beat the Chiefs in the playoffs.

If you cut Bosa you still have to pay pretty much his full contract. He has a $12,000,000 dead cap. How does that help anything?

It’s a really odd contract the Bills signed here. All veteran salaries are guaranteed for that year if they are on day 1 roster. Having his 1 year contact guaranteed is basically him and agent hedging their bets that he will not be healthy enough to even be on the NFL season opening roster.
