Since1981 Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago Yes. Retire 1 day deal. poor guy shouldn’t be on the field much longer / any if he wants to play catch with his kids someday. The poor guy took and gave a pounding … 1 Quote

JP51 Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago (edited) Cooper, Douglas, Poyer, probably others (like maybe Morse despite theoretically retiring) .... I am just not in get the band back together mode... we didnt win a superbowl with them and we needed to get better... did we? Not sure in especially the safety position we have... So, no lets not bring these folks back unless they provide us with an immediate upgrade to our team and dont cost us a ton of cap... this means to me... I am fine bringing Poyer back... IF we find ourselves in a stretch of the season where we have injuries and he is the BPA to help us... at the right price... Same thing with Coop as well as Douglas... although he could be a temporary upgrade to some in theory but not a big enough upgrade to justify shaking up the "band" at this point and stifling development of younger players... But, there is value in folks knowing the system and the team... so no, not nostalgia but If MCBeane think the situation warrants it due to poor circumstances I am fine with i it as a band aid... to do this now and make them part of the plan for success (investment, playing time/Starter. sacrifice young players development etc....) to get you over the top... Hard No. Pull you out of a bad spot... sure. Edited 5 hours ago by JP51 1 Quote

Guys trying to show they can knock a guy over with barely trying. "I'm so strong I can just throw a shoulder into him and put him down". What they are really doing is being lazy and frankly playing scared of injuring their shoulder. But if they used proper technique, no one would get hurt and the hits would still look big (likely even bigger). People play a lot different when they don't have helmets. But at the same time, then when it does happen even accidentally there's 0 protection so that doesn't really work either. 11 hours ago, NoSaint said: he laid it out on the field. he was clumsy leaving and had the questionable plays for a rival i can value his contributions without being super eager to bring the shell of him back for charity I personally think he's done, and like thurman thomas before him - trying to get everyone to forget that he played for miami. 🙂 Quote

To that point, there are far less concussions and brain injuries in high level Rugby leagues. Sure, injuries can occur. I've been concussed in a Rugby game myself. But you cant use that crappy "human missile" garbage or else you're gonna get run right over. Pete Carroll/the Seahawks have a ton of good material out on it. Quote

It's probably easier to teach now with a few more actual rules involving player safety. 1 Quote
billsfan89 Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago If Po wants to be "on retainer" for a late season PS stint and maybe make the roster if there's a lot of catastrophic injuries fine he can get the Hyde route of one last run in the most limited way possible. I love what Po did for this team but he was losing half a step in 2023 and then looked completely washed with Miami. He's been a full time starting safety in the NFL since 2017 and he's been in the league for over a decade with a decent injury history at 34 years old. For his own sake he should even if he still wants to play take the route most guys in his situation take and be a veteran in season free agent. If the Bills need him for the PS mid-season take him. He can be a coach who is a emergency backup. It gives him a long off-season of rest he needs at this stage of his career and still helps him provide value to the team granted in a very limited way. 1 Quote

All those lower level coaches are failing players by not teaching and enforcing/requiring proper technique. Do it enough when you are younger and it becomes second nature. Antoine Winfield Jr is one of the best in the game at it. Not surprising given his lineage and likely upbringing. But it also shows players/Safeties can be top of the game AND use proper technique.
