Cash Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago Sorry, I was in this thread early, then dropped off for a while. Can anyone catch me up on why there's a whole "trade for DJ Moore" sidebar? Is it just because they have the same last name? If so, I'd like to start an additional sidebar about the great Herman Moore, star WR for those 90s Barry Sanders Lions teams. His best season came in 1995, when he caught a league-leading 123 passes for 1686 yards and 14 touchdowns. Dude was like an early Megatron prototype - 6'4", 210 lbs, great hands and jumping ability. As for Elijah, thanks to @Normaliswear for the May 1st info. Hopefully that's accurate and we sign him May 2nd. I'm a little skeptical though, just because we're currently at a net -2 in the comp pick formula, so it's pretty unlikely we'd care about whether Moore counts or not. I'm still fully on board to sign Moore after looking at Spotrac's list of free agent WRs. He's young, potentially still getting better, would add speed to our offense, and can play inside and out. This thread has included some evidence that he's better on the outside than in the slot, so I hope the Bills would give him a chance at both and not just pigeonhole him as slot-only. 3 Quote

Not sure how much more he can work on it, I think he is what he is and you play to his strengths. Yes you will let the occasional long ball fly to keep defenses on their heels some, but with Brady as our OC and Josh I do not think that will ever be a massive part of the Bills O game plan Also what is the long ball % of the best long ball throwers in the NFL past and present? I would guess Rodgers, Fouts, Marino and Mahomey, maybe Unitas. Quote

I thought that too... IE, why wait if we aren't getting a comp pick anyway? My only thought was, since it's only a couple days, if Moore is fully on board, terms agreed etc, why help the Browns get an extra pick? It'd be one thing to wait until June or July. But if you agree with the player on Tues and just have to wait until Thurs to make it official to screw a conference rival out of a pick... I'd wait the two days. I hope I am right anyway. Remembering an incomplete pass is basically a lost down. I prefer keeping the chains moving more than I crave the long ball myself. It is necessary to throw it long on occasion, but we do not need to live or die by the long ball, where die is probably 2/3 more probable 1 Quote

He throws that moonball better than anyone. 1 Quote

The Bills do not have the cap room or flexibility to afford this, even if they wanted to. Thanks for throwing cold water on my dream 🙁 4 Quote

But that if he signed before May 1st it would count towards the comp pick formula, but after May 1st it would not. So, my guess is sometime tomorrow or Friday we will hear Moore is being signed to an incentive laden contract that hits the cap as less than the Browns 3.4 tender but has easily met incentives that will make as much or more than that. If that’s true game on 1 Quote

I'm also curious if the Browns would remove the tender after May 1st and not be on the hook for 3.5 mil for a 5-6th WR. they just signed Dionte Johnson yesterday which is an older version of Moore. Right now it a free 6th round pick(?) if he signs elsewhere but that changes on Friday. Even if the Browns don't remove the tag I would think Buff could offer a contract with easy to earn incentives that would be greater than 3.5 if he plays. Moore could decide to bet on him self and a much better situation to get a better contract next year. Taking a visit to One Bill Drive with his wife indicates to me he's probably debating taking less now for potentially more later today but want assurances of his role. 2 Quote
NickelCity Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago Presumably we would wait until May 2nd to avoid giving the browns a comp pick? Quote
ddaryl Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago Everything I am reading regardin Elijah Moore is https://www.cbssports.com/fantasy/football/news/elijah-moore-gets-tagged-by-browns/ Quote The Browns have applied the unrestricted free-agent tender to Moore, Field Yates of ESPN reports. If Moore ends up signing with another team by June 21, the transaction will count toward the NFL compensatory draft pick formula. This is notable because Moore had an official visit with the Bills on Monday. A 2021 second-round pick of the Jets, Moore was a regular in the Browns' receiving corps the last two seasons, racking up 120 catches (on 205 targets) for 1,178 yards and three touchdowns in 17 regular-season games. 1 Quote

I messages Capaccio on X for clarification. Quote
MrEpsYtown Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago I dont think the comp pick thing matters on the Bills end. We are not in line for any picks at the moment. Currently minus 1. 1 1 Quote

Nope, anyone signed after the draft, no longer counts towards the formula unless apparently you use this seldom used tag The Bills will not get a comp pick unless Palmer and Hoecht do nothing for the Bills next year which we all hope doesn’t happen Edited 11 hours ago by gonzo1105 Quote

K D Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago Ok I figured it out. Elijah Moore can only be signed on the 3rd Sunday of a leap year as long as DJ Moore isn't available via trade in which case it's null and void and then the Patriots get a comp pick 1 Quote
