9/11/23 GAMEDAY Week 1 Bills @ Jets MNF Pregame Thread

IT. IS. HERE!

The last game of Opening Week and we’re already tied for 2nd place in the Division. National narrative says ‘Same old Bills, regular season darlings that will flop in the playoffs’ and ‘Jets are preseason favorites to win the Division and go to the Super Bowl’

But we know better.

While most of the 13-3 team is returning from the ‘Cincy Crash & Burn game’, there have been numerous changes -most of which for the better! Leslie Frazier, Tremaine Edmunds and a small handful of dependable situational players are gone. In their place are (7) rookies/1st year players, new positional coaches and the legendary late Jim Johnson protege, HC Sean McDermott serving the dual role as DC. Hyde, Poyer & T. White are reunited for the 1st time since the storm delayed PB&J win over KC 2 years ago and supplemented by surprise FA Taylor Rapp! Our top FA is former Cowboy OG Conner McGovern who is teamed with 2nd round pick, OG O’Cyrus Torrence whose college dossier consists of zero penalties and zero sacks allowed. Yes, folks, a rookie is starting! Probably 2, if we open in 12 personnel! 1st round pick Dalton Kincaid has been the talk of the town since we traded up to select him. DK2 is the most highly anticipated rookie TE since Tony Hunter, with exceptional catching prowess and smooth, clever RAC speed changes. By most accounts, he’s a ‘Can’t Miss/Travis Kelsey clone’ while replacing everything Cole Beasley gave us underneath from the slot/flex. Sherfield, Shorter & Harty should immediately make us forget ‘Mrs. Beasley, Lil Dummy & Jamison Chowderhead’ while Khalil Shakir really came around the 2nd half of last season.

I hated to lose Motor Singletary, but 2nd contracts for RBs are a thing of the past. I’ll miss his ‘all in’ team play, always being the 1st player arriving to help a teammate up after a good play. Latavius Murray & Damien Harris bring excellent veteran play and short yardage expertise to compliment James Cook. All have very good hands for catching passes. Gabe is healthy and motivated for his 2nd contract while Stefon Diva is again expected to perform at his All Pro level. Ex QB Dorsey enters his 2nd campaign as OC after his ‘rookie’ season provided the 2nd highest ranked Offense. Combine all this with the steely-eyed resolve of the franchise’s best ever player in QB Allen and all the negative prognosis will look very foolish by season’s end.

Tyler Bass, Reid Ferguson & Sam Martin make up one the best ST trios in the League with no drop off anticipated.

Our Defense is where trepidation exists. Frankly, we’re so accustomed to Top 5 rankings, we’ve become jaded and critical of Frazier’s implemented schemes. Especially so in close games where ‘Bend don’t Break’ broke. But the stork in the middle now flies in Chitown and Leslie has a new paper route. Terrel Bernard has gone from Kyle Brandt’s spirited Draft introduction to our new Green Sticker starting MLB! Very fast, quick learning student of the game are his credentials and Sean has thusly anointed him the starter. Yes, he’s well supported by All Pros Milano, Hyde, Poyer and eventual HOFer Von Miller. Newly wealthy Ed Oliver will team Daquan Jones. 4X Pro Bowler Poona Ford and Phillips will rotate in with little drop off. Expectations are very high for DE with Rousseau, Epenesa and newly acquired Leonard Floyd. McDermott’s Defense is anticipated to be much more aggressive with many blitzes and new pressure schemes. Taylor Rapp, a tough-nosed Safety, will likely bring 3 High Safety’s into vogue. Benford is now a 2 year starting CB! AFC teams -and especially the East- have upped their offensive game. So the timing’s right to Up our Defense. Just wait til Von returns to form!

As for the Jets, they’re loaded with talent and under-achieved last year. But they wrote the playbook on how to defend Allen as our 2 lowest offensive performances will attest. The never blitzed him, clamped down our receivers, cut off Allen’s runs and injured him. They’re high as a kite with Gramps as their new QB and have the national spotlight on them this year, starting tonight. But their OL is very bad, especially at Tackle. Groot should feast.

IMO, I think it’s going to be an especially long season for Jets fans and NYPD should triple patrols on the Brooklyn Bridge trying to stop jumpers..

Enjoy!

GO BILLS!

My antenna has a slight crack in it and my pirate sources have such a delay, I am considering signing up for NFL+ to watch the game live. Has anyone successfully installed the app on a Roku TV as opposed to mobile only?

YouTube TV offers a free trial. I subscribed on Thursday and have been extremely impressed. You can cancel the free trial right away and still have access for the entire trial period.

.I wish I felt the same as Chandler but I don't think my concern about our defense was all about Frazier and "bend but don't break" defense strategy. Still very concerned. Also, I think Rodgers is still a very good quarterback and gets rid of the ball very quickly and has enough of his old side kicks to be up to speed quickly with a new team. Jets O line is their only weakness. Defensively they're better than us. I'd be happy if we can split our games between them and Miami
