Some insurance companies are also leaving or reducing underwriting in California due to state regulations and fire exposure2. In 2018, a law was signed prohibiting insurance companies from canceling or refusing to renew homeowners' policies in areas impacted by a wildfire until twelve months after the blaze3. Insurance companies have challenged this regulation in court.
