Ex-Chief of Staff Mark Meadows granted immunity, tells special counsel he warned Trump about 2020 claims: Sources

"Former President Donald Trump's final chief of staff in the White House, Mark Meadows, has spoken with special counsel Jack Smith's team at least three times this year, including once before a federal grand jury, which came only after Smith granted Meadows immunity to testify under oath, according to sources familiar with the matter.

The sources said Meadows informed Smith's team that he repeatedly told Trump in the weeks after the 2020 presidential election that the allegations of significant voting fraud coming to them were baseless, a striking break from Trump's prolific rhetoric regarding the election.

According to the sources, Meadows also told the federal investigators Trump was being "dishonest" with the public when he first claimed to have won the election only hours after polls closed on Nov. 3, 2020, before final results were in."

"Obviously we didn't win," a source quoted Meadows as telling Smith's team in hindsight.

"According to Meadows' book, the election was "stolen" and "rigged" with help from "allies in the liberal media," who ignored "actual evidence of fraud, right there in plain sight for anyone to access and analyze."

But, as described to ABC News, Meadows privately told Smith's investigators that -- to this day -- he has yet to see any evidence of fraud that would have kept now-president Joe Biden from the White House, and he told them he agrees with a government assessment at the time that the 2020 presidential election was the most secure election in U.S. history."

***

"Meadows told investigators he believes the Justice Department was taking allegations of fraud seriously, properly investigating them, and doing all they could to find legitimate cases of fraud -- and he told investigators he relayed all that to Trump a few weeks after the election, the sources said."

***

"Under the penalty of perjury, Meadows offered a vastly different assessment to Smith's investigators, telling them he's never seen any evidence of fraud that would undermine the election's outcome, according to what sources told ABC News."

So when I repeatedly say that nobody has more contempt for GOP voters than GOP officials, Meadows selling a book of claims he doesn't believe in so he can make money off of Republicans is a pretty good example of what I mean.

Always good to compare what people say when there is no penalty for lying and what they say when there is.

I can’t wait where we get to the point where they stop giving immunity

It means they’ve got everything they need, and everybody else goes to jail

If a jury will convict. No guarantees on that no matter what the prosecutors present. Maybe justice will come someday after all the legal delays have been exhausted.

These are not immunity deals, per se.  I know you meant “no jail,” but Chesebro and Ellis are convicted felons right now.  Powell got the best deal with just misdemeanors.  But those are still crimes. These lawyers will have to fight just to keep their law licenses from being suspended.  And assuming there will be an upcoming trial or trials, they will be further humiliated  - in open court and on national television - by being forced to tell the truth, under oath, against people like Eastman, Giuliani and Trump, with absolutely zero exceptions per these cooperation agreements.

The partisan conservative posts have slowed down on this topic.   Wonder if we're finally getting to the point they realized he really has lied to them thousands of times.  And the people Trump the Dump claims are lying are mostly telling the truth.  They'll still bob his knob come show time I'm sure.

With Meadows cutting a deal, the noose got tighter.

Trumpers response remains, "Hey, look over there!".

They know he’s guilty, except for the terminally stupid.

saddest part is they don't care.  Doc, farley, bean and lenny just wish they could be more like him and believe he'll get away with it.  "crime pays"...the nouveau "Republicans".

I'll let the process play out as I've heard "we've got him now!" too many times.  If he's found guilty and can't run again, so be it.
