MYSTERY has surrounded the sunk Russian warship Moskva as Kremlin has released a video appearing to show survivors including the captain who was reported dead after the hit.

Two days after the attack Russia claimed that the head of the Russian navy had met the crew of the ship in Sevastopol but hundreds of sailors are still missing.

Looks like Russia's big attack has started.  This is supposed to be their war winning offensive, so we're going to learn a lot about a lot in the next week or so.

Ukraine had reportedly been counter-attacking around Izyum and making good progress.  The city is Russian held and Ukraine had almost cut all the supply routes leading to it.  So if all that's true it, Russia had to go now to bail out the Izyum garrison.  Operative words being if all that's true.

Good luck Ukraine, and good hunting to the JFO, Regulars, and Territorial Defense force units.

The Pope finally spoke up today....amazing since most Ukrainians are catholic.

Er, you do realize the Pope is Roman Catholic while most Ukrainians are Orthodox Catholic, right?

And yes, that is quite the difference.

Er, very true, but still Christian Catholic,. Since the Pope was silent during WW2 while Hitler did his thing, I thought this was important.

It would be equally important if Ukraines were Baptist, or Protestant vs the anti religion of the communists.

Generally the Pope takes decades to listen to all his advisors and waits fir a sign, or lightning bolt or such.

Yeah, thank god for the fraud and feelz, which led to Ukraine being invaded because Putin knew Joey was a schlub.  As well as the overall decline in the country.

Well at least we know that Tibs counts himself amongst the solid 25% who think the country is going in the right direction. He’s definitely a man that stays true to his convictions! 😳

WW2 Pope Pius XII was in the middle of Fascist Italy, Hitler's closest ally. But though he didn't say much publicly (not that he could), he still worked behind the scenes to save hundreds of thousands.

And, no. It would not be "equally important". A fair number of Christian sects don't even consider Catholics in general to be Christians. And the Orthodox Catholics don't see the Pope as the leader of the church. The closest they have, would be someone like Patriarch Filaret in Ukraine. Or Kirill in Russia.

Never suggested he was the leader of Othodox Catholics, and there are no Christian who do not consider RC non Christian except for political church crapola.

The Pope didn't speak up in WW2 to a nation who supported him! What is he afraid to die? No. Leaders who remain silent in a crisis are not leaders.  Christ spoke up. Stories of help years later is nothing more that PR nonsense.

It is amazing that many religious leaders can speak out about poverty, genocide in Africa, disease in the slums of Rio, but cannot condemn genocide 1000 Miles from their front door.

Heading into Day 2 of The Big Attack, news is very sparse from the front. Ukraine has confirmed that North African mercs have been killed in Russian service.  There's video of their bodies for anybody that wants to look for it. The city of Kaminna was taken by the Russians, population about 18k before the war.

It's right on the front lines, so Russia's making *some* progress through Ukraine's defences.  More people falling into Russian hands is very bad for them, but Ukraine has some space to trade if it increases the burdens of Russian logistics.

Kreminna was a tough hold.  All the roads are on the west and northwest sides, with farmland or impassible terrain everywhere else.  The defenders wouldn't have had the easy access to supplies, reinforcements, and very predictable escape routes.

If the Ukrainians did any counter attacking around Izyum, they were probably more like raids. Or spoiling attacks to throw off Russian preparations rather than attempts to retake the city.  The Russians are attacking from the very same places they supposedly captured.

Russia rejects cease-fire for civilian evacuation amid Eastern Orthodox Holy Week

Russia rejected a temporary cease-fire in Ukraine that the United Nations secretary general requested for the purpose of civilian evacuation during the Eastern Orthodox Holy Week leading up to Easter

Russian Orthodox Patriarch Kirill's support for Putin's Ukraine war has fractured his church

Russia's war in Ukraine is also something of a holy war. Patriarch Kirill, the head of the Russian Orthodox Church, has long been a key ideological ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin and at least tacit supporter of his military adventures.

Russia has warned Sweden and Finland via bilateral diplomatic channels about the consequences of joining Nato, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has said.

"We have issued all our warnings both publicly and through bilateral channels," Zakharova told broadcaster, Russia-24.

"They [Sweden and Finland] know about it, they will have nothing to be surprised about, they were informed about everything, what it will lead to."

Finland's parliament will open a debate today on whether to seek Nato membership, after Russia's invasion of Ukraine sparked a surge in political and public support for joining the military alliance.

Despite Russia warning of a nuclear build-up in the Baltic should Finland and neighbouring Sweden join the military alliance, Finland's prime minister said that her country would now decide quickly on whether to apply for membership.

Sweden is also discussing whether to submit a membership bid following Russia's invasion.

Putin: Life will change for the better

AFPCopyright: AFP

President Vladimir Putin has asserted that Russia will achieve its military objectives in the Donbas region of eastern Ukraine that would, he says, allow people to resume their normal lives.

Speaking at a meeting in the Kremlin aimed at promoting Russia as a land of opportunity, Putin said Moscow had been forced to start a "military operation" in Ukraine because of "the tragedy" taking place in Donbas.

"I said it at the very beginning - the purpose of this operation is to help our people living in the Donbas," he said.

Addressing a girl who joined the meeting from Sevastopol in Crimea, which Russia annexed from Ukraine in 2014, he said: "We will act consistently and make sure that life there will gradually become normal, will change for the better - just like it happened to you, in your life, in Sevastopol."

Putin regularly uses the anniversary of the annexation of Crimea to highlight love of the motherland.

Russian President Vladimir Putin sent a message to the West as he oversaw a planned test launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile on Wednesday — a move that comes as Russia renews its campaign to take eastern Ukraine.

The weapon will “provide food for thought to those who in the heat of frenzied aggressive rhetoric try to threaten our country,” Putin said in televised remarks. The Pentagon said Wednesday the United States was properly notified of the test, which it said did not come as a surprise to Washington.

A fraud of a superpower based on petrodollars, mountains of rusting Soviet weapons and a few hi tech toys, and bluffing.
