‘74 Season Opener Bills vs Raiders. 2nd MNF game for Buffalo

Recommended Posts

First game ‘after’ OJ ran for 201 yds and 2003 for the ‘73 season.

I was at this game with my Dad, sitting in the Endzone seats Rashad caught both TDs in!

(Sorry for the crappy video. Best version I could find)

Thanks again, Chandler; you're keeping me sane before training camp!

What a shame Rashad blew out his knee in '75. The Bills gave up on him, only to watch him become a perennial pro-bowler with the Vikings. But surgeons were just not that good at fixing knees back then: think of Jerry Butler and Jeff Nixon -- and (no offense to Tre White and Butch Byrd!) the Bills' greatest cornerback ever, Robert James.

You’re absolutely right! Rainy game. We had comp tix at the 50 yard line, right under the MNF crew. Friends in St. Louis saw me as the sideline camera rode up and I jumped up waving, wearing a Niagara Mowhawk raincoat. THERE’S an old reference..

Its age. Memory starts going..🤦‍♂️

Speaking of knees, never forgave Lawrence McCutcheon for basically ending James career after an interception in a freaking preseason game.

My Uncle got me a ticket to that game, one of the best games I ever saw.  I will never forget it.

I remember how Howard Cossell and the MNF announcers were in a box visible to the fans and so many drunks were giving him the finger but he didn't seem to care.

Judging by your name I hope we'll see you at the Harp a few times this season.

Yep. Len Dawson started for KC -which I was glad to see as I admired him so much. Juice went over 1000 yrds in the 7th game and visions of 2 Grand danced in our heads!

Hell yes, Promo!! With things reopening here, I'll definitely be there this fall with my twin sons, who -- despite being born and raised in Boston --  are now  irreversibly Bills fans (= Pats haters), having been successfully propagandized, er, raised by their dad. I kept things real simple: Kid wanna eat? Kid root for Bills. 😎

Let me buy you a beer. You should be easy to spot: rumor has it that you're the biggest guy at the Harp.

Wait a minute! I said this game was the first game after the ‘73 season ender when OJ ran for 201 yrds and 2003 for the season. That’s correct, @dwight in philly

I remember this game well.  We were sitting in the scoreboard end zone.  OJ was injured just before halftime and helped off the field.  Some Raider fans in the end zone decided to stand up and cheer that OJ was out hurt.  This did not sit well with the well lubricated end zone fans, some of whom immediately moved toward the offending Raider faithful and beat the living crap out of them.  Security personnel moved in and escorted the Raider fans from the stadium.

Oh, and the Bills won in a thriller made all the more impressive because OJ missed the second half.
