Mel Kiper, Jr. as GM candidate? Yeah, it's possible.

The greatest contributor to an NFL team's long term success is player evaluation and, more specifically, offensive talent at the QB position.

Who was the only analyst to really support Josh Allen, who saw through his "accuracy" issues and evaluated him as a high ceiling guy? Mel Kiper, Jr.

Below is a list of just a few experts who laughed at Kiper. Even his contemporary Todd McShay didn't have Allen as the best QB of the 2018 draft.

So Mike Mayock gets a gig as a GM for the Raiders...but was never "wowed by Allen" like he was with Carson Wentz. Hmmmm

If Mayock can be a GM, so can Mel "Freakin" Kiper. Would be a nice fit for the Jags, Jets, or Lions. He can select QB's and that's half the battle.

TV personalities are becoming GM's...Mayock, Louis Riddick, etc.

Fire away Armchair GM's...after you blow the dust off your Josh Rosen jerseys.

My Uncle Dave watches a lot of football, he could easily be a GM

Is this the new “hear me out!” ???

Again, why are people under-estimating Louis Riddick in this thread? He has 12 years of experience in NFL Front Offices. And not just low-level jobs.   As executive: Was

Louis Riddick was an NFL Player and Front Office executive who then made the switch into TV. Younger brother to former-Bill Robb Riddick, he grew up in and around the NFL.

Mike Mayock was at least an NFL Player for a couple years.

Kiper has done nothing except write some articles from his basement.

Mike Mayock was high on Josh Allen. He liked him alot

Mayock quoted as saying "None of the 2018 QB's wowed me like Andrew Luck and Carson Wentz"....we know how that ended up. Great analysis Mike!!

Just because someone knows the ins and outs of a players college strengths and weaknesses doesn't mean they know how to build a winning, professional roster, to include coach selection and many other things that go along with being a GM.

Come on dude you're like cherry picking quotes. He thought Carson Wentz was going to be a Hall of famer.

That doesn't mean he didn't think allen wasn't good

Mayock insists that Allen (6-4 7/8, 237) is better in some ways than Carson Wentz, who was an NFL MVP candidate before he suffered a season-ending knee injury in December. Wentz had an 11-2 record when he went down.

I mean draft picks are a crap shoot. Would a guy who has evaluated players for 20+ years and gone on TV on the record where people can go back to see how accurate he has been be any less worthy than a guy who has no track record that can be verified?

At some point when you put in enough hours and if you have a natural talent for it, there will be little difference between them and an actual GM.  Now handling contracts and other things that go with being a GM might be a little out of his expertise...

Kiper also said he would retire if Jimmy Clausen was a bust

He stopped publishing his Draft Report after the 2013 draft, so in a way he did retire.

His last 10 top QBs in the printed Draft Reports were:

2013 Geno Smith

2012 Andrew Luck

2011 Blaine Gabbert

2010 Jimmy Clausen

2009 Matt Stafford

2008 Matt Ryan

2007 JaMarcus Russell

2006 Matt Leinart

2005 Alex Smith

2004 Eli Manning

I love this gem from the Forbes article.

"As to where both UCLA's Josh Rosen and USC's Sam Darnold are seen as can't-miss franchise quarterbacks on the field, Allen has to be coupled in with the group of EJ Manuel and Geno Smith, the first two quarterbacks selected in the 2013 NFL Draft. Experts were split on the two, with Manuel being the only signal caller selected in the first round of that year's draft."

That's gotta be embarrassing.
