Dan Shaunnessy: For Patriots, Bills means it’s over: the division, the path to playoffs, and the dynasty

The only bad thing about the Pats losing is they might be in line to get Justin Fields. They won't get into the Lawrence sweepstakes but Fields is possible. Who do we want to win next weeks Pats-Jets game. On one hand NE winning gives them a 3rd win and maybe they miss out on one of the top QB's in the draft. But the Jets winning could hurt their chances to select Lawrence. The Jaguars are terrible and a serious threat to the Jets for the #1 pick if the Jets can win a game.

It puts B B in a weird position now where a couple losses to the Jets really does a number on them.

It will be interesting to see how B B approaches the situation going forward.

To lose games you may have to bench Cam IMO.

After all, its Belicheat we're talking about here, he knows how to cheat the system.

He's good that way...

Nihi, we absolutely must win at least 3 games before the finale...most likely (although not guaranteed) Broncos, Charges, and Pats again.  If anyone disagrees with me I just ask, do you see the Bills beating the Cardinals, Seahawks, Steelers or 49ers?

Be at least 9-6 going into the finale and I believe it is still there for the Bills, with the hope that the Phins will also be no better than 9-6 (please Cincy Bengals keep playing the way you have and give the Dolphins a run for their money), with maybe Miami's only losses being the Cards, Chiefs and Raiders.

...but we MUST win 3.

I agree, and hopefully more than 3.

The Seahawks were beaten by the Cards, while the Cards were beaten by the Lions, Panthers. The 49ers were trounced by the Dolphins and then beat the Rams, Patriots.

The only undefeated team is the Steelers and they play the Cowboys, Bengals, Jags, Ravens, Washington and then the Bills. That Ravens game, if Lamar Jackson doesn't turn the ball over like he is flipping pancakes the Ravens win that game. Between the turnovers and penalties the Ravens beat themselves, just sayin on any given Sunday.

Buffalo needs to fix their defense and find that passing game again. This past game they found their run game so the offense should be ok.

I remember when Shula was the feared coach - until the league caught up w/ him and he got older.  I'm not sure that I fear BB as much as I used to without Brady. I don't doubt his abilities as coach, but I don't think he's a great GM.  And it may take them as long to find a replacement for Brady as it has for us to replace Kelly.

Funny thing about Don Shula. Once he got Dan Marino throwing so much he simply forgot what won him a championship. That was a great run game.

All those years with Marino at QB the Dolphins never had a RB even close to what Thurman Thomas could do.

i mean.... we're talking about pats fans right?

it'll try, but it'll never be what it was. Therefore it'll be plenty beatable.

With a competent QB you and I both know other coaches will do the stupidest things just because it’s the Patriots and BB.. now when BB is gone it will change completely

That article made me think of Jerry Sullivan.   I love it that NE fans have to deal with their season being over with 9 games to play, and get read depressing articles for the next 2 months.

Their message boards are a pretty joyous experience.  All of the early November conversations we used to have - talking about the draft, who the good QB prospects are, etc.  Also the obligatory "if this had happened in that game, and that had happened in this game, we'd have a winning record...."

Yeah Stidham sucked at Auburn and he sucks now, you don't want him as your QB.  The best thing for the Pats now is to try to ship Gilmore off, tank the season and zero in on a QB.  Not sure if the Pats could get Lawrence, but Fields would be a nice consolation prize.

& as far as who was more responsible BB or Brady, I will say this.  BB is a great coach but every successful long tenured coach has something in common over the past 25-30 years.  They have had a true franchise QB to work with.  BB had the greatest QB to ever play the game.  That had a lot to do with his success.

Beyond that, they were always able to draft very well.   They were very good at recognizing Talent and smart 4 protecting their quarterback.  Beyond just having Brady they were a very complete Organization for a long time. I'm not sure how much longer Belichick is going to want to stick around and try to recreate that again.

Belichick was manipulated by Brady and Kraft into trading away Garropolo. I bet Belichick and Kraft really regret that trade.

The Pats would be totally different today if they had Garopollo.

While I agree they'd be a much better team with Garropolo, would he still be there? I thought NE never paid Brady top QB money. Jimmy G. was the highest paid QB at the time he signed his contract. Could you imagine them dumping Brady to pay so much more for Garrapolo? And, BB is saying that part of the problem is that they spent enough over the last several years so that now they don't have flexibility. At the time that they signed Newton, they had almost 0 cap space. Since then they freed up quite a bit. But, I don't think they could have afforded or been willing to pay Garrapolo's salary.
