I’m still skeptical of Shenault’s skill set personally. Also don’t think he really fills the hole in our starting lineup, at least not right away. He becomes a lot more interesting to me if we get someone like AJ or Jeffery in addition because then we can use Shenault in his best spots instead of trying to force him to be something he’s not. He’s an absolute load to try to tackle though once you get the ball in his hands. Think the way Randall Cobb played for years as the 2ndry option to Jordy Nelson. He played the slot, he played the Z, he lined up in the backfield and he ran a lot of different routes. I'm starting to warm up to the idea of either of these guys. Being a nitpicker, I do still wish we had just taken the unique physical specimen that DK offered last year, especially considering how far he slid. He would have been a natural fit for what I think we should be looking for this offseason. But man, this draft class is so ridiculously loaded. I will be beyond upset if we don't take multiple WRs this year; it would be criminal. I think we might end up putting ourselves in a position where we want to trade up in the 2nd round to get our guy, but hopefully that will not stop us from taking another WR on Day 3. We'll see how things shake out after the combine and pro days...after watching more film, Denzel Mims and Bryan Edwards are the Day 3 guys I've circled so far, but I kinda think Mims will be a riser in the draft process (or at least that he'll be talked about as a riser). Super raw skillset, but he has size, athleticism, and hands. If you're interested in seeing more of these WRs, I can't recommend this YouTube channel enough: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtBCRt-5IbP1uggiqCdUvdQ He's uploading All-22 film of every target/rush attempt these WRs get; obviously that still leaves off the plays where they aren't targeted/don't get open, but still helps a lot in showing what they're capable of. Also, PFF released the first stage of their massive draft guide and I'm working on filtering some of the data into sub-groups (pure wideouts, pure slots, and versatile guys) so that we can compare a bit better. I'll probably try to add measureables from the Combine as we get them too. He has played both, but to me he is a day 3 player on the outside. The reason he is in the conversation for day 1 and 2 is his craftiness from the slot for my money. Hamler is primarily a slot guy for me but could you line him up outside and throw a go route now and again? Yep. Not really got into Johnson enough yet. Yep. Not really got into Johnson enough yet. I see Hamler as a Desean Jackson clone almost. I also don't agree with their overall receiving grades they handed out to many of those guys. They have Tyler Johnson with the highest "Rec Grade" of the bunch. I don't see it. I think he is going to be a quality NFL WR, but there is no way he should be graded higher than Jeudy, Lamb, Jefferson, or possibly a host of others. Some of their grades on people also seem insanely low as well as very questionably high with others. Now the breaking down of targets and watching players via an All-22 format is awesome.
