Ameer Abdullah Released

Hard to figure why Detroit took him just ahead of David Johnson. He's a lot smaller and slower than Johnson. Still, I figure he'd be an upgrade over fan favourite Marcus Murphy. And he should come cheap.

Johnson was a guy from a small school and many were very unsure of him that draft year. Abdullah was all Big Ten and pretty much considered the third best prospect in that running back class.

The draft is funny that way. We picked John Miller that year about four picks before Johnson went. And Miller also went a full round before Shaq Mason. Pretty cool ?. Cam Meredith, Tyrell Williams, Adam Humphries and David Andrews all went undrafted in 2015.

Just to add Abdullah is a big time character guy who would be a nice fit here.

I don't know, his name sounds close to Allah dude. Mcdermy might not be a fan.

Have you seen how Detroit uses RBs? If not, it is not in a way that makes them shine. The dude is extremely talented.

Kerryon Johnson has looked pretty good in the action ive seen him in this year

Sign this guy now, and you don't have to worry about using a 3rd ot 4th round pick on a RB in the next draft. If you're looking toward the future, a starting RB is now out there for the taking.

Why?

He had prolific college career, racking up tons of all purpose yards. He's better and younger than Marcus Murphy. Still just 25 years old, there is potential there. He got jerked around in Detroit. Some team like Philly or NE will sign him and they will look like geniuses.

It's possible any RB available ends up in NE since they are down to using a WR as their RB now.

You beat me to it. Watch...He’ll show up in the Super Bowl with the Patriots and everyone will say where do they find these guys?  ?

We will at least be subject to a good 15-20 minute pre SB segment on him where everyone will be talking about how Detroit had no idea what they had and how NE found another Diamond in the rough. This will probably be shown around the 45 minute segment on how NE transformed Gordon and turned his life around, saving it for good.

We have 3 running backs though...?

Dude is only 25, he was stuck in a weird committee situation in detroit, he could turn into a serviceable RB. at this point why not see what he can bring? He's young enough to have several productive years ahead of him

Maybe in the offseason.  As it stands now we have no need for a running back.

Depends on how serious Ivorys injury is. The reports made it sound serious after the game, but McDermott made it sound like nothing on the radio the next day.

The reports said he was taken to the Erie County trauma centre for it after which reminded me of the Jay's Outfielder Kevin Pillar diving to make a catch and hurting his shoulder. He left the game and went to the hospital where they said he was lucky cause the injury was close to being fatal like being in a car accident.

I guess - We're at the point of the year where money is more important than like... bringing in future talent.  Abdullahs not signing more than a 1 year deal.  If he plays well he'll still leave because hes a UFA.  Usually you target guys at this point in the year who are cost and team controlled.

Depends on if he gets claimed or not. For teams out of the hint you bring in guys like this to get a look at them as potential keepers. Most teams give 1 year deals cause they dont want to get tied to a castoff at this point before FA and just want someone to finish the year. At his age, he could be worth taking a flier on for the rest of the season.
