We just got a quad 1 and quad 2 win!! Top 45 in RPI...

Great defense.... Chris Bell is an NBA shooter with size ... Quadir is a defensive menace... Judah and JJ...

This team is sleepy good... And next year can be a elite 8 team

That may have been the best first half I have seen by an SU player with Bell against NC State.

Copeland and Mintz came through in the second half. Big quad 1 win.

They def seem to be peaking at the right time! Got to hope we can keep the consistency, but if they get in the tourney I can see them getting to the sweet 16 at least this year

Quadir is certainly my favorite player on the team! And there are a bunch of likeable guys!

Malik and Copeland will be amazing for the remainder of their SU careers... Bell is a sharpshooter... Judah can get to the paint whenever... JJ is getting hot... We play defense!

Jim boeheim certainly did one thing before he left... He left us with the deepest recruiting class we had in a long time

And we are bringing 5* forward Donnie Freeman and stud guard Elijah Moore

Both fit EXACTLY what we do

I am loving me some Copeland!  He plays with a fire and confidence that others seem to feed off of.  He has some sneaky length and ball handling to him and seems to do whatever is needed.  Just needs to cut down on some turn overs as he tries to get too cute with it some times but he is only going to get better which is kinda awesome

Sneaky length is probably an understatement

He has a 6'6 point guard with great wingspan

He is tremendously long

Right he is 6'6 but his length seems a lot longer, on his one reverse lay up he had I didn't think it was even possible, like go go gadget arm haha

O without a doubt... Seriously has to be pushing 6'10 wingspan

Because that reverse layup as you said seemed impossible

It literally seemed impossible

I have honestly seen enough of Taylor. Copeland should be starting in his place, and getting the lion’s share of the minutes. Taylor has struggled in every facet this year, and offers less on the boards than Copeland can give us in more of a 3-guard lineup.

Hard to take anything to the bank anymore long-term with the transfer portal and NIL being what it is. I've already heard buzz that Judah is likely gone; if not to the NBA then to Georgetown. Been some buzz that Maliq and Bell will be hard to keep too. Hopefully the rumors end up not being true so we can basically run it back with this group plus Donnie and get back into the NCAA Tournament but we'll see. Losing either Maliq or Judah would be pretty catastrophic for our hopes IMO. I would say at least for now, the Maliq/Bell stuff is just a little murmur; nothing concrete. I'm sure Judah will try to go to the NBA Draft again this offseason...hopefully he returns if he doesn't get good news there like he did last year. I know Georgetown is pretty confident they're getting him though.

I think Judah is gone

Chris Bell could be a second round pick type guy ... But SU has ALWAYS let players be themselves...

Basically nobody transfers out and does better... Because SU coaches always have our guys in the best spots usually... Barring injuries

I could see a guy like Peter Carey leaving ... But maliq I can't see.. him and copeland have great on court chemistry

Sounds like the conversation around Bell is more whether or not Autry views him as a culture fit. I really hope we can keep this group together; our talent level isn't high enough to be letting talented kids leave. It would be so big for us to be able to keep our guys here and continue adding on to them for once.

Judah to Georgetown?! That would be rough.

with the portal, it is really a game of luck and attrition. All the elite teams have a stable of good upperclassmen they seem to be able to hang onto (UConn, Houston, Purdue, UNC). Not sure how they do it.

I think it's only a matter of time until SU is perennially ranked again in basketball

Red will bring the Orange back to prominence and the boosters have money...

The sanctions killed the program for a while... We just weren't getting recruits of the caliber SU was used too

Any chance the Orange make the tourney as an at large? Seems like they've stacked some wins at the end of the season.

Win both remaining and a ACC tourney game I think would do

Win 1-2 and 2 ACC tourney games could do

This team is peaking and has wayyy more individual talent than most 11-12-13 seeds

I saw something today that after the VATech win Syracuse has a +50% chance of getting an at large bid as an 11 seed.  Squarely on the bubble.

I feel like you have been missing from this thread for a bit!

Did you hear anything about what was going on regarding Benny?

Hockey season just ended for my son, so I have about 4 weeks to enjoy my interests before lacrosse season begins.  😂

I’ve been following along and have been to a couple games this season.  I did hear that Benny and Red have been butting heads all season.  Benny throwing tantrums at practice and in the locker room.   Sounds like their relationship had become quite toxic, and Benny was just not a very good teammate.  Autry knew he had to cut bait to “reset” the team culture.  I’m not sure if there were any other contributing factors, or what was “the straw that broke the camel’s back.”

FWIW

I just want to say that this team is absolutely loaded for next year if they stay loyal to the orange

And quadir is going to be an NBA player himself with the awesome development of the orange staff

He's got the whole bag my God he could easily be a top 20 draft pick when it's all said and done if he sticks it out

Agreed. A very promising group. Encouraged to see Bell take the next step too. Even Taylor has looked a lot better, despite not having found his outside shot.

I think we absolutely need to have Starling, Bell, Brown, and Copeland back next year to build on this season. That might be overly optimistic.

Pretty impressive what this team has done this season. They've looked pretty bad at times, but they're super young, and 20 wins for a rookie hc is pretty impressive. Like others said, if this team stays together, their gonna be awesome in the coming years

The NET is doing Syracuse no favors.  I think that, in order to snag an at-large bid, they have to win @ Clemson on Tuesday, and then win 2 games in the ACC Tournament.

As for Benny, I think it was a cumulative thing.  Autry probably should have given him the boot after Williams destroyed a toilet (literally, not with a massive dump) in the locker room

The NET ranking are definitely flawed and I know they are important but SU is #4 rn in the ACC with 20 wins

They should be a tournament team

I don't get the narrative around SU this year and them being on the bubble.  20 wins, 4th in ACC, peaking at the right time of year...they would be a given for the tourney most any other year.  They are super young, but clearly have been growing into their talent over the past 6 weeks.  I think that Bell has been the difference, his assertiveness on offense has been awesome.  And the light finally turned on for him to play a little defense and rebound.  If he can keep doing those things he could be a 1st round pick with his shot.

Just imagine if Jesse had stayed and we had a true center on this team??

It also would shock me if Judah went to Georgetown next year, does anyone know why?  I mean that would be such a step back for his career IMO...either stay at Cuse or go pro.  Is the NIL money that much better at GU?

It's because the ACC is considered a shell of itself

Which hurts

Clemson is a bad match up for cuse rn, two bigs that are a threat to score and rebound and a lot more experience (4 seniors) to our all sophomore team

 We had no chance.

We shot very well, but we can’t match up with them at all on defense.

If we could just get Judah to stay one more year, I feel like next year's team could be awesome. Going to have to hope for more improvements from Quadir/JJ and or maybe some portal luck.

Donnie Freeman is probably the first kid to come here in a decade where he's pretty much a no-brainer NBA player unless he literally doesn't improve at all.
