I remember when Villanova had Dante Cunningham, and he was one of the few guys who gave us a lot of trouble in the high post. Now, every team has 3-4 really good 3-point shooters, and most teams have a few big guys that can fill that high post and find the shooters. I honestly don’t think even our best defensive teams at Syracuse could be effective today. Even against Pitt, they were draining a lot of hard, contested 3’s.

Yep his defense forced teams to play entirely different than what they would normally do. Now his defense is giving them exactly what they want. He needs to mix it up more or he is done. Maybe even after this year

I get why you’d think this, but going back and watching teams like the MCW team or the title team, there’s a night and day difference between the intensity they brought compared to the teams we’ve had the past 5+ years. With the more recent teams, there’s 10+ times a game that a hard working defense would trap and force an easy turnover. Our teams don’t even try anymore and frankly aren’t built for it even if they did try.

Moving to the ACC upset him as did the wins that were taken away, but both pale to comparison to the motor vehicle accident a few years ago. He's a hall of famer, won a ring, and was able to coach two sons at the highest level. He's deserved the right to step away on his own terms and that's just what he'll do. When, only he and his family know.
Metal Man
Do you guys think Jim is the kind of guy who wants a farewell tour? They have to make their decision and it’s up to them.” That was before his departure was announced. That sounds like he was fired, to me. Either way, this unceremonious ending to a career that spanned more than half of this man’s life seems like a real kick in the nuts. He deserved to leave on his terms and to control how it was communicated.

He could have gone out on his own terms, but seems like he was refusing to be clear as to his intentions and timeline. Smart move by the school to just quickly put an end to it. Not classy, but necessary.

Yeah, I interpreted that as him saying it was up to the university to determine how they handle the remainder of his contract, as depending on the contract coaches typically get compensated better if they are fired than if they retire/resign. I could be totally off though. It was rumored that JB had decided to retire way back in 2017, but the university allowed him to change his mind at the last minute which pissed off Mike Hopkins who was expecting to take over. Not sure how much of that is true. It could very well be that he was coerced to retire after the past two abysmal seasons. Either way, it was clearly time for him to go and I am please with Autry being his successor.

I just feel like it should/could have been handled with a lot more grace. But I don't know anything about the relationship with JB and the university. For all I know, he could have been handling it like a dick behind closed doors.

I don’t think red is getting rid of the zone buddy… I know it’s been a rough few years… maybe a mix of zone with some man But you know, As well as I know… When you get the five right pieces the zone is dominant We always had long PGs… 6’6 , 6’7 SG… 7’7 wingspan centers … and 6’8 , 6’9 forwards We were always the longest team in the country for years We haven’t been the last five years… The Probation and losing scholarships really hurt the program With getting kids that we were used to We went from perennial top 70 kids… Too Top 200 kids I wouldn’t mind sticky man to man… But if red recruits To what we’re used too I’d see his variant of the zone Edited March 10, 2023 by Buffalo716
