I won't be tricked into Joe's question of "which dude wears dark eye shadow best".

Joe,. If you want to try it, just try it.  Create your own look.

You gotta say, Robert Smith (The Cure) probably wore it best along with the lipstick:

But, totally... NOT anymore!

Other:  I googled "New Wave Bands," because some genres are tough to put bands into.  Multiple sources call The Police a new wave band.  That being said, they are - by far - my favorite.

It is tough to categorize.  Although Sting didn't wear eye shadow, he was definitely girly enough.

I would not consider The Police to be New Wave at all but I associate New Wave with 80s synth.

The Smiths and Tears for Fears exemplify New Wave, in my opinion.

I was shocked to see the Police referred to as New Wave.

I'll change my vote to Depeche Mode.

Like you said, they don't fit neatly into a category unless late 70s-80s British reggae pop is a category.  Its a lonely one.

I have been a big Police fan since the late 70s.  I still maintain that they are their own genre.  Nobody has even tried to imitate it (bits and pieces borrowed, but not the complete style), which is a wise choice.

Echo and the Bunnymen opened for Peter Gabriel at Kleinhans back in 1978... last concert I saw before I went into the army. So I've seen them and the B'52's a few times, last time was at the now defunct Tampa Jai Alai... always had a good time at their shows.

I voted other... I'll roll with The Tubes. Those first 4 albums plus the double live one are excellent... being produced by Ken Scott, Al Kooper, and Todd Rundgren can't hurt either.
