So yep seems he has PS eligibility In order to be eligible for the practice squad, players must meet one of the following requirements: Have no prior Accrued Seasons in the NFL (An accrued season is six or more games on the active roster); Have one prior Accrued Season in which the player was on the 46-man active roster for no more than 8 games; Each club will be permitted to sign a maximum of 4 Practice Squad players who have earned no more than 2 accrued seasons of free agency credit; If served two seasons on a practice squad, are eligible for a third season only if the team has at least 53 players on its active/inactive list for the duration of that player's employment. A player has served one season on the practice squad if he is on the practice squad for at least 6 games. The rule previously required 3 games on the practice squad roster. Looking at that link - of the teams who kept two - Texans, Eagles, Packers, Vikings, and 49ers all had QB changes during the season (just from memory - not looking this up). Most of those teams who kept 2 also have a SOLID #1 (Russell Wilson, Jared Goff, Drew Brees, Cam Newton, Matt Ryan, Aaron Rodgers, Matt Stafford, Carson Wentz, Dak Prescott, Phillip Rivers, Marcus Mariota, Joe Flacco, and Tom Brady). 13 of those 19 teams were totally set with their #1. We are not there yet. If one of those guys went down and we had to throw Allen in as #1 - we could end up scrambling to get a #2. Ive gone from thinking aj will be the starter to thinking he may be released entirely. Hes only on a one year deal for starters. It comes down to me How far along Allen is. If Allen is clearly the No 2 by end of Preseason and say Peterman wins the job you can cut McCarron. It wont be hard to find a 3rd QB to hold the clipboard if you face an Injury. Also would need to put a developmental QB on the PS. Now if McCarron wins the Job then I do think it is more likelt they keep 3 going forward no matter how Well Allen has been. To me McCarron needs to win the QB1 to keep his job. AJM couldn't find many teams interested him while he was on the open market, and I'm not sure Peterman's tape will draw much in terms of compensation so far. An injury could change that equation, of course, and make a team desperate. But right now I don't think the Bills could flip either QB for very much of a return. Maybe if AJM/Peterman lights it up in the first four weeks of the season... Until then? If they do well in the games and the Bills put one of them on the block, I think some QB-needy team will snatch them up. The Broncos could use a better backup, for example. At this point, I think Allen is good enough to at least be 2nd string. Another vet in the mix just muddies the water. Start Peterman/McCarron, trade the other, and have Allen waiting in the wings. As soon as the starter falters or gets injured, Allen steps in and doesn't look back until he's deemed "franchise" or "bust." 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

njbuff Posted August 13, 2018 Share Posted August 13, 2018 What exactly do you expect the Bills to get if they trade Peterman or McCarron? There is nothing wrong with carrying three QB's. All of which are on friendly salaries. And through most of camp, the one player that has hit the radar is Croom.
