All kidding aside I am really excited for this Sabres season. Hoping to make it to a few games this year. Can't wait to see Dahlin play. I think they will be a lot better this year. Yes, but he'll be playing in Philly or Chicago by then.

BillsFan4
Last nights game was a perfect example of talent vs system. Buffalo’s prospects, just like their NHL team, tried to do too much themselves and were not playing their system. Boston on the other hand, was very well disciplined and executed their system perfectly. They were excellent playing their gaps and taking away the puck carrier’s space. They were attacking north and south with speed. They were swarming the puck, winning their battles along the boards, and generally just skating through the Sabres players any time buffalo touched the puck. They did a good job taking away the dangerous scoring chances/areas of the ice, too. But to be fair, a number of those bruins players have experience paying together in the AHL. I believe 4 guys on their blue line alone played together in providence last season. It showed. Their AHL team is very well coached and they play very well within their system. Boston’s goalie was also excellent tonight. He was a difference maker for Boston. The ice conditions didn’t seem very good again. NJ struggled with it last night and Buffalo definitely struggled tonight. Guys were falling, bobbling passes and losing the puck trying to stick handle. It was kind of frustrating to watch. Still, lots of good to take away from that game. Dahlin does so many little things well, and the way he sees the ice is special. Luukkonon looked very good in goal. He is miles better than Jonas Johansson. We could have something in UPL in the future. Tage Thompson once again stood out. He has easily been one of buffalo’s best forwards in both games. He’s. It lookin glide just some throw-in in the ROR trade, that’s for sure. Asplund could be a player for us sooner than we think. He’s almost like a better version of JT Compher. Laaksonon once again showed his skill. He looks like another one that could be an impact player for Buffalo in the years to come, if he continues on his development path. Mittelstadt was better tonight night but still left a lot to be desired. Writing him in as the #2 C might be a bit premature. He may have to start out the season as the #3 C, or potentially in a C/W role like the end of last season (where E rod helped him out at C). Only one high draft pick (a 2nd rounder) and virtually everyone else was round 5-7 or undrafted. If that's the future pipeline for the Penguins, Crosby and Malkin better play until their 60s like Gordie Howe did... K-9
I'm going to predict that Asplund makes the big club this year. He's well seasoned after three full seasons as a pro in Sweden and is better than anyone else we can slot in as a 4th line center. Good-bye Larsson. 26CornerBlitz
This past weekend, the blue-and-gold faithful saw Thompson in action for the first time and his performance in the annual Prospects Challenge in downtown Buffalo left spectators wanting more. While he certainly acquitted himself well against other prospects, did he do enough to convince the organization that is he ready for a full-time role with the big club next season? The answer remains to be seen, but the hulking forward certainly brings a certain skill set to the table that the Sabres have been lacking.

BillsFan4
Just watched the Tampa Bay press conference. Boy, Julien BriseBois inspires a lot of confidence. You can see why is was so highly thought of and in demand around the NHL. I think he is going to be a very good GM for Tampa. They have what seems to be a great owner too. He also inspired a lot of confidence in this move. But he pissed me off with his comment about “we are so lucky that some other NHL team didn’t steal JB from us”. Lucky? You guys outright refused to even let him interview for GM jobs. I don’t know how many requests they denied, but I know it was multiple. Buffalo tried to interview him before they hired Botterill and Tampa refused the request. I gor got the impression that Steve Y. is gone once his contract is up at the end of this year. It sounds like he made this decision in part to spend more time with his family, but also because he did not want to renew his GM contract with Tampa. Whether the reason for that is truly to spend more time with his family or not will be determined by what he does in the next year or two. 1 hour ago, shrader said: I don't know how long it will take, but this will all lead to Yzerman returning to Detroit. I don’t know if he would be willing to let Detriot fire Holland in order to replace him. It may have to wait until Holland’s deal is up in 2 years. Unless Holland leaves willingly, to join Seattle or something like that. But yeah I could totally see that happening eventually. It makes too much sense not to happen. He spent his entire 22 year career as a player there (age 18-40) and then got his start as an executive there. It seems like it’s only a matter of time until he’s back as the GM/team president.
