Given USC QB's & Bills/USC History @ QB ...

Seeing as the last decent not great QB to come out of USC was Carson Palmer i can't see why all these so called experts are saying that Darold is suppose to be this all encompassing, fantastic, super QB because if you look at the history of QB's coming out of that school its not real impressive ! Although this article says he will be more likely than all his predecessors to be a great QB.

Just a few have even made it in the NFL but most have been a flop . Palmer, Lienert, Sanchez, & who ever else you can put on that list & the one from the Bills past that should be remembered most & was nothing spectacular for sure that caused some of the biggest up evil in the Bills history was from USC also Rob Johnson  !!

I can't really say what makes a great QB because i'm just a fan but given what history has proven most all of the great ones (except a small handful the Mannings, Elway, & who ever else once again that you all can think of) came from later picks in the draft.

Most all of the great QB's have come at a better value in the draft than the first over all picks those names are easy to remember Farve, Brees, Kelly, Marino, Rogers, Wilson & on & on.

I guess given the history of QB picks good & bad a like along with what the Bills have this year as far as the number of picks in the draft i hope they stay with what they have & get the guy that falls to them with a better value & not so much risk given the Bills history of moving up to get their guy hasn't been all that great of decisions for sure.

GO Bills !!

I understand your point and for all of us who have lived through these lean years after going through the real highs of the Jim Kelly era, know how shotgun shy we've become with QBs. But that said, you really can't have a bias against a QB simply because of the college he's played for just like you can't look at a college and assume their QBs will be NFL greats just because a few have. Otherwise, Brad Kaaya would have been Jim Kelly and taken the reigns from Stafford.

That said, I for one am NOT a fan of trading UP simply because I think this QB class is not elite in terms of 1 or 2 prospects, but I do think it's deep. I think you can easily find 7 QBs who can and will do a good to great job as an NFL QB and with that in mind, you retain your picks and maybe even trade back from 22 depending on how the Draft comes to you. But, I am in the minority and that probably includes the Bills.

However, as I've said elsewhere, everyone assumes all of this Draft capital is to trade UP. But Beane and company essentially showed their hand before last season and they believed they'd be a top 10 pick, without the need to trade up and STILL acquired these picks. That tells me the "original" plan was to Draft a QB in the top 10 with their pick, and use all of the other picks on remaking the roster. That means, IMHO, Beane would need to be so overwhelmingly convinced that the guy they need to trade UP for is much better than the guy they can get at 12 or later, DEMANDS they trade up. I'm not sold on that idea...that Beane believes he needs to make that jump. Maybe he does....I just don't think he's convinced at this point.

This is the same mindset that people expounded not to pick Orakpo because he was from Texas - where the lazy OT Williams was drafted from.

Why was Maybin not a success since he came from same college as Conlan?

I can see why some schemes produce players who may not succeed in the NFL but to go back 20 years with different schemes and coaches makes no sense.  Zero correlation.

Does the OP think there is a curse on USC QBs so that, no matter who they are, no matter who coaches them or who their college team mates are--they are forever doomed?

Not for nothing, but the Bills putative starter is from a famous QB factory of (NFL) sadness...

You'd think after Robojoke we'd never want to see another Trojan again?...UCLA has had only 1 good qb in the last 50 years...you can't get caught up by the school.  Just do your homework on the player. I still like Darnold but we're in no position to get him.

I feel the same.

Browns might take him #1, so if they want him, they won't trade the pick obv.

If they take Allen, the Giants are heavily reported to want Darnold at #2 if Browns pass on him, meaning they won't trade the pick.

We have to accept that he's not coming here, and look at Rosen, Allen, Mayfield as the "top 3" since a "top 4" doesn't exist for us.
