Put the Franchise Tag on Tyrod Taylor - Beane's Poker Face

This thread is pure gold!!!!   Maybe not the level of Dunkirkbay Chadonwick, but effin damn hilarious nonetheless!!!  ?

This is no laughing matter. The future of our team...nay, the future of our lives - hangs in the balance as we try to accumulate first round talent. What better way to bolster our team with young talent than to have 4 first round picks. I seriously don’t think Thyrod can take us to the promised land...but other teams think so. Denver, Jets, Cardinals or even the Jags would steal Tyrod from us quicker than a farmer swiping bacon from a griddle. Franchise him as a “potential free agent”...wait for a suitor, and laugh all the way to the bank with 2 more first rounders. So it costs another $8 million. Big deal. This is our future we’re talkin about.

Your scenario makes no sense.

HE IS UNDER FREAKING CONTRACT FOR $18,000 FOR ONE YEAR.

The only way he is a potential free agent is if we cut him.

We aren't going to cut him then RE-SIGN HIM FOR 23 MILLION ON THE FRANCHISE TAG BECAUSE WE WOULD STILL INCUR THE $10MIL DEAD CAP FROM CUTTING HIM.

If we plan to trade him, we will roll the dice, keep him for $18mil then trade him for whatever bag of donuts and chewed gum somebody offers.

ERGO Nobody is going to give TWO first round picks for a guy we just "franchised" for one year and $22-25 million WHEN THEY AREN'T EVEN CHOMPING AT THE BIT FOR $18MIL AND A PACK OF CIGARETTES IN TRADE.

Christ.

Can we have an iq test for members?

But if we do the transition tag the other team doesn't just get him for one year. They can sign him to a multi-year deal and we get the draft picks.

the idea that a team would trade a bucket of spit for taylor  is ludicrous .  Set the man free , wish him luck and move on

That’s exactly what we’re advocating. Call it the “Emancipation Franchisation” or whatever you want. The point is, Tyrod can be tagged based on ambiguous language in the NFL rules because he’s a “potential” free agent. Let’s cash in on this investment.

Did you see what the skins gave up for Alex smith and had to pay him all that money? We can certainly get something for Tyrod. Franchising him makes that possible. We don’t want to let him leave for nothing

So with this thread if the Bills keep Tyrod on the roster in 2018 in hopes of trading him why not get stuck paying him 25 mill and not 18 mill, it is the OBD way of thinking for sure. I can see OBD thinking they have a piece of gold in Tyrod everyone wants, sadly that piece of gold is really a piece of something else and truth is IMO they will get stuck holding it all season since other teams know it's fool's gold and will stay far away from any type of trade for 18mill let alone 25mill.

That's a difference of $7 million. Please identify one team in the NFL that wouldn't pay $7 million for TWO FIRST ROUND PICKS!!!!! (Because that's really what we're arguing.) By making a $7 million investment over the short term, you are assuring TWO FIRST ROUND PICKS in return. Not even Doug Whaley would pass on that investment.

No, but Doug would trade those 2 first round pick plus 1 and 2 more other picks for a wr though!

You need a team the will give one pick let alone two.

What I am saying is NOBODY will give even a box of donuts for him so what will happen is the Bills will be stuck in 2018 not only overpaying at 18 but now with this weirdness of a thread will pay a extra 7 mill, why because NO TEAM wants him even at 18 so the Bills will be stuck with him at 25. I can see OBD buying into the stupidity of this thread just to get stuck paying even more then the original contract, it is OBD way. Great job Russ this thread is for you

Yes, yes he would. Funny how Whaley was so high that he gave up 3 first round picks and people loved him...now we have a strategy to get four first rounders and people scoff at the idea. Whatever.

It wasn't long ago that Cleveland assumed the huuuge contract for Brock Osweiler plus a second rounder from the Texans. The idea being that the Browns had the cap space to eat a big contract and still get a second round draft pick. Al I'm suggesting is that we eat a little money to acquire two first round picks. It's a no brainer.

The Jets have about $98 million in cap space and Rick Dennison as offensive consultant....put the pieces together.

Taylor could have signed anywhere last season but instead took a pay cut to come back to Buffalo. That's how much interest there was in him. What has changed?

Looks like my plan is coming together.

Next stop, franchise tag.

As I understand it,  the Bills FO has coined this the Tag and Release Program. The NFL is a copy-cat league. Nice to be ahead of the curve for a change.

I had another forward thinking idea, but if the mods think this deserves its own thread they can move it.  Since father time won't kill the Patriots* we need to look at other options.

Step one: Get Terry Pegs on the competition committee

Step two: Terry Pegs uses his position to change the rules so microphones in helmets/hand signals from the sidelines become illegal

We already have a young coach who could then be signed as the "quarterback" of the defense. Player/coach Sean would also be invaluable as an on field motivator (see: clapping).

Patriots* would then be forced to sign Hoodie as the quarterback of their defense, but he is so old and slow. Also not a good motivator. He might be able to call good plays but it would be like the Patriots* defense is playing a man down every play.

That solves the defense.

Not sure on offense what to do yet. Maybe change the rules so only first round picks can play QB?  (Brady totally has to retire or change positions) The braintrust can come up with something better. But the beauty is that we've already got Terry Pegs on the competition committee to make it happen.

As per another thread, it looks as if the Bills could pay his bonus, according to Ian Rappaport.  That does not mean he won't be traded.  That actually makes a trade more likely, and far more likely than getting anything out of him on the trade market if he's franchised.

Great news. This fits into the “franchise” plan. Can you find the link for me? Thanks

Tagging Tyrod would be like having end zone seats for the home opener and trying to sell them for $100,000 based on the hope/theory that raising the price exorbitantly automatically makes something more attractive.

Nice idea but guess who's gonna be stuck with their tickets unsold?
