Im pretty sure I do. They are looking for Football character. I think Mayfield has that. I am sure he is high on their list of QBs. But imo he needs to stop being so hyper-sensitive what people say about him on twitter. He must literally search his mentions because he responds to random people he wouldn’t follow, like a Cleveland talk show host. He gets pissed at the slightest critique (ie Avg arm strength) by a twitter scout. He needs to let that stuff go. Hyde was arrested for public intoxication and resisting arrest? The on field antics aren't a big deal in and of themselves, but add in the off field it has to give evaluators a bit of pause. As a QB, His decision making will be the rise or fall of the coach. If I'm an organization I don't want my QB arguing with random mofo's on twitter. Victory Formation Posted January 25, 2018 Share Posted January 25, 2018 Mayfield has good enough size, he is growing on me more and more. 6'0 220lbs, 9.5 inch hands, overall his measurables are good enough. By “elite measurables” I’d be referring to physical skills and characteristics. Plenty of guys have been able to check off all of those boxes, including the aforementioned Peyton Manning. Obviously none of those things guarantee success, but a six foot tall Big 12 QB frightens me. Some of us will like Mayfield, and others such as myself will maintain reservations. Everyone talks about his competitiveness but if he doesn't play what does that show? Some of the best college talent collects at the senior bowl and if he decides not to play I think that will go against him. I hope he changes his mind if in fact this is true. If he's willing to take on the criticism to protect his teammates that is pretty cool. I don't love how he responds to the criticism and it seems like it has the potential to be Ryan Leaf-like. I’m also concerned that he doesn’t take criticism well. To be a good pro he’ll need to listen, and take criticism well. Mayfield’s Rose Bowl antics really turned me off. After stating that he had learned from his mistakes, he made another. He walked into the Rose Bowl carrying a sign that read “pretenders”. This was a response to a Lee Corso comment regarding OU in the preseason. Why is he even worried about a commentator’s remark from months ago? He doesn’t seem to learn, and continues to bring controversy to himself. I don’t condemn anyone for making mistakes. I do question their character and intellect when they continue to make the same ones. The NFL isn’t Wrestlemania. Pretty much completely agree. Good stuff. I know its boring to be the guy who ignores criticism like Eli Manning, but that what I want my quarterback to be. Boring and efficient. I don't like antics, so agree there, but I think he just wants to win. I've heard/read many reports that he will put the team on his back and is successfully in motivating his teammates. Unrelated to Mayfield, isn't the NFL a little like Wrestlemania? It's an entertainment league above all else. Related to Mayfield, I'm not sure you have to completely stifle his personality. A good organization/coach just channels it effectively and healthily. A confrontation on the field in terms of actually stopping him would have been appreciated in Sept but i digress. From the Ozone — This week at the Senior Bowl, Tyquan Lewis and Jalyn Holmes confronted him on a charter bus ferrying the North team to and from practices at Ladd-Peebles stadium, Lewis and Holmes surrounded Mayfield in his seat, blocking him in. They stared down Mayfield, and one of them broke the silence: “What’s wrong with you, bro?” A pregnant moment passed, then the three burst out laughing. “That’s what you get for kicking my ass the year before!” Mayfield said, referring to the Sooners’ 45-24 loss to the Buckeyes in Norman back in September 2016. The Ohio State pair admitted they probably would have done the same thing had the tables been turned.
