But if anyone can correct his tackling issues, it's Belichek. Unfortunately, good CB's are hard to retain after their rookie deals as their second contract are usually astronomical. Agreed on all... Yea I am a big Gilmore fan but he was awful against the Jets. He had a very good season otherwise. There was a weakness at corner last year on the Bills..... but the weak link is sill here.... hopefully he is primed for a rebound of his own. I think he's a terrible tackler with poor technique, and there's no question he gave up a bunch of big plays. I'm not rooting against him, but I'll be curious to see how he performs under Belichick. I don't think Zach Brown or Robert Woods are going to light it up with their new squads... not did I think Levitre was going to be the best guard in the league or Byrd the best safety..... I just think Gilmore is already a top 12 corner in the NFL with potential to be top 5 or 6. I'd have re-signed him here.... even allowing for the big money. In my view he is a cornerstone player you don't let walk. Having said all that.... I do like the Tre White pick. I think he will be a solid starter as a rookie and can himself push to be in that top 15 corners in the league with time and development. I would've been upset with paying Bouye. We're talking about a guy that's only a year younger than Gilmore, but has a total of 19 career starts (nearly all of which came in the slot--not on the boundary) and only 1 year of solid productivity. I like Bouye but he is a bit more of a one year wonder. He took a huge step this year. Gilmore has been consistently good over 5 years with the exception of that year he played 6 games with 1 arm. If he was on another team other than the Bills, he would in the discussion for top cb. But for whatever reason (because he doesn't smile or celebrate), Bills fans decided they didn't like him. I get more convinced that people don't watch other teams play if they harp on Gilmore giving up catches and yards. Despite our high school offense, teams are throwing the ball for massive yard totals more than ever. And I like White. Seems like a great kid. But he has a long way to go before getting on Gilmore's level, though I'm sure fans will say he's better right now. And it's just another example of the Bills spinning their wheels of letting a good player go and drafting his replacement with a high pick. Let's see how good he is when he's on an island instead of going against 2's and 3's while Jonathan Joseph sheltering him and taking the #1 matchup. Lazy? It's lazy to state the fact that Bouye has only 19 games of starting experience, and that very few of that work has come as a boundary corner? IMO, lazy is tossing aside 5 years of performance from a former 1st round pick and labeling a guy that cannot possibly be characterized as anything more than a one-year wonder at this juncture as the next big thing...but that's just me. As for the inevitability of his success this year, well, I don't remember saying that he won't have another good season. I remember saying that I feel a lot better trusting Gilmore to perform as a boundary corner than paying a (primarily) slot guy $11M AAV to play boundary corner with 19 career starts. I think he will be a stud in Jacksonville as well - he and Ramsey has the chance to be the best CB tandem in the NFL this year. I just don't think signing someone as good as Stephon can be a mistake. The front-4 is quite nasty with Calais Campbell joining Malik Jackson, Ngakoue, and Dante Fowler. They have Telvin Smith and Myles Jack at LB.
