Matz got killed for his last outing but it really came down to the HR he gave up with the pitcher on deck (which was bad). Tonight he got out of that bases loaded jam (which was fortunate, ball made it to the warning track). I'm more concerned that he stays healthy and so far so good this year.

But what do we do with Nimmo? A year ago I had written him off as a career minor leaguer but I'm becoming a convert. Problem is we already have too many left handed bats in the outfield. No way I'm giving up on Conforto but Nimmo's been the better player this year IMO.  And this team needs Bruce to be Bruce. I get that A-Gon is an obvious target but the thought of Bruce at first frightens me.

Regardless, nice bounce back road win after a tough home loss the night before.  It's been a good seven days after a rough stretch.

Let's Go Mets!

Maybe it's just me but I see Conforto being satisfied with getting a walk, once again,he's missing putting the wood onto the ball when he gets that low pitch...he's second guessing himself for unknown reasons..slap it and put it into the opposite field is something that comes easy for him...if you noticed Gonz has been chatting with him on the bench a lot...I hope he isn't putting garbage in his head ...meaning "be a power hitter".

As much as I profess not to be a stats guy, I do like a good stat and SNY posted this before the game tonight. Mets pitchers ERA with Mesoraco behind the plate < 2.00 without > 4.00. Of course he never had to catch Harvey ? and I assume not Vargas.

And on a personal note, looks like I'll be attending a Mets game up at Fenway in September with some friends from college. Maybe we'll bring in Hanley Ramirez for an Omir Santos moment.

It was one of the last posts I had on BBMB. Grew up rooting for the Mets. Wanted to see who fellow Bills fans pulled in terms of baseball. Know the Jays are close but are aware of the Sabres/Leafs rivalry.

Born and raised in Flushing, so I was a Mets fan at birth. We followed baseball from diapers, but my friends and I didn't really get into football till we were about 10. By then, those lackeys were Jets fans and I refused to root for a team that played in freaking Jersey. So I pledged my loyalty to the true NFL team of my birth state and have been absolutely miserable ever since. Silver lining is that my friends have been absolutely miserable, too. ?

I feel your pain. I felt the same way about Harvey when he and his agent pulled that diva crap a couple of years ago before the playoffs. Pure elation the day he was traded, though it was bittersweet knowing they could have received significantly greater compensation had they traded him before the start of the 2016 season.

Yeah, he didn't have a bounce-back outing today.

What do we do with Vargas? He's not just losing games for us, he's burning out the bullpen. Hard to believe but Harvey was probably better.

Gentleman...I need to get something off my chest. In late April, with all of my heart,I really felt we had a playoff caliber team. We have to face the facts now..we are a aged team...aged bodies mean more injuries throughout the dog days of the summer. I hate to say this...but I believe we have to sell the over priced former talent to the contenders. My opinion is a tough pill to swallow..I know that. But look at teams like the Astros and Braves. I say rebuild..it will take 3 years to do it..but isn't it worth it????  You fellas said you peace about Familia..I feel differently, but if we can get some rock solid double A talent for him..let Sandy pull the trigger.Expect some changes by the deadline...

Honestly, Vargas needs to go the pen and come in for blowouts basically. I think the logical option is Gsellman to the starting rotation since lugo is way too dominant in the pen to be taken out of it.

There is is no way sandy thinks these guys can get the job done.

A talk radio topic earlier this week was whether the Mets would/could/should consider moving DeGrom and/or Thor if things don't improve. I don't get that line of thinking at all. I'm not ready to blow the team up and start over. We're still over .500, there's a long way to go, we have two top flight pitchers and a closer who's had success (not getting where you stand on him Blue, but I think he'd have trade deadline value). Some thoughts on the team, sorry for the long post, I'm frustrated too.

STARTING PITCHING: Murica suggested (with good reason) to put Gsellman in the rotation over Lugo, but I'd go the opposite way. Lugo looks more like a starter to me. But at this point maybe move Vargas AND Wheeler to the bullpen. Matz doesn't look like bullpen material to me, so sink or swim with him.

RELIEF PITCHING: Say a prayer.

CATCHING: It's early but I'm hopeful about Mesoraco.

OUTFIELD: raise your hand if you're happy Ces isn't on a long term deal. Outstanding player when he's on the field, but leg muscle issues? WTF? If Bruce goes on a tear things will get better. I still like Conforto and as I said recently Nimmo has shown more than I expected, just don't know how he gets more playing time. Might need to have Bruce slip on a banana peel.

INFIELD: Rosario's been average but shown enough to keep me hopeful. Cabrera has been a great Met when healthy. A-Gon and Frazier are caretakers -  we need the outfield to produce more to get by with them. I don't think this team is good enough to bring Alonso up from AA.

I think it's too early to throw in the towel.  We do not look good now, but we're not out of it, mathematically speaking.

However ... once/if it's apparent that we're done, then yes ... tank.  Get rid of some talent for prospects and rebuild.  Scorched earth.

Yeah not done on this year but agree with you.  Look at the Phillies now, for years they still kept the core of the 08' championship team.  Then recently they finally blew it up.  They were last place for a while but are set up nicely for the future

This team is just a mental midget. They’ve been getting multiple run leads this entire series and can’t hold them. I’m really getting fed up with the decisions Mickey is making.

Takes Gsellman out to bring Blevins who hasn’t been reliable at all this year. Could’ve had Gsellman, Lugo, and Familia pitch but Mickey, and Eiland are pitching “gurus” & know better.

I know they have a double header and probably need lugo to start one game but we needed to salvage this series as a split and should’ve been coaching for today not for this upcoming week.

Yup, saw that. It's kind of funny how badly the MLB wants to get this game in. Next few days will be even worse weather wise. Not sure if they'll get the next 2 in.

Oh great that's gonna cost me some sleep.

What's interesting today is the decision to stick with Lugo. Gary and Keith attributed it to the double-header...the Mets  knew they wouldn't use Lugo in the night cap and wanted to save Familia. Easy to criticize after the fact but great arguments on both sides.

Hindsight guy (me) says Lugo had already blown the lead an inning before and we should've tried to lock down the win with our closer.

Nope, I feel the same way. Anyone watching could see Lugo was not crisp. He hung a pitch to Culberson and I knew it was a matter of time. Then he did it again to a guy that hasn't hit a home run in two years.

Man, Noah is starting to rack up the injuries. I love the dude, but it seems as if he is almost a glass cannon now.

Gary said his finger is in a splint for the next few days and should be able to toss over the weekend..Callaway said this happens from time to time with pitchers that have long fingers. Doesn't sound like this is long term unlike how we were lied to about Ces and Frazier.Hopefully only two starts missed for Noah, fingers crossed.Sounds like lugo is the next man up to get the spot in the rotation? It will get better, right?????

Anyone here know how to pitch? This is just embarrassing. :bag:

I was literally standing up and yelling at the TV before the inciarte at bat. Rhame started every batter off with a fastball and sure enough they were sitting on it.

Imagine how much more trouble we be in if Mickey wasn’t a pitching “guru”... This team loses in the most excruciating ways ever. I’m annoyed I bought tickets for the subway series in June to go to Sunday night baseball.

So the same day Thor hits the DL, Matz - who has been pitching surprisingly well - leaves the game with "finger discomfort."

Here's what I'm starting to think ... the Mets have a roster full of a bunch of !@#$ing injury-prone pansies.

I will also say that, thus far, I am very unimpressed with Callaway.  52 games into his managerial career and I can think of at least 5 games that have been lost due to his poor management.  I'm not going to come out and say that he stinks.  I don't think that's the case.  He's been hit by the injury bug pretty hard.  But he's made some pretty bad moves; I'm fine with chalking it up to being a Rookie manager.

The bullpen is atrocious.  My knee-jerk thought was that they are over-taxed and burned out.  A quick look at the stats told me how wrong I was.  Mets are 25th in the league for innings pitched by the bullpen.  Right under the #24 Yankees.  Here's the problem ... they !@#$ing suck.

Starting pitching has done well enough for this team to be at least 5-6 games above .500, if not more.

It will be nice if/when Frazier and Cespedes are healthy; Flores being out hurts, too.  Unfortunately, that is not going to keep our bullpen from spoiled every single good start our starting pitchers have.  Bastards.

We're only 5 out.  The season is still relatively young.

Let's Go Mets!

Not sure if any of you were listening, but gary cohen said what they pulled off in milwaukee on sat and sunday, trailing by 3, blowing it, leading by 2, blowing it again, hasn't been done in MLB in 88 years.

? I’m venting here but how can anyone involved with the Mets brass be pleased with this? Like another poster said I’m almost done and it’s not even June.

I'm setting my sights on Alderson now.  The Mets have - BY FAR - been the least durable team in the Major Leagues since he took over as GM.

What looked like a stroke of genius in the Toronto trade has been a !@#$ing injury nightmare.

Every player (it seems) that he's brought in via trade or free agency has spent significant time on the DL.

And for !@#$'s sake, bring up Alonso from AA to play first base EVERY DAY.  Keep Conforto, Nimmo and Bruce in the outfield EVERY DAY.  Play Guillorme at 3B EVERY DAY.  Play Rosario at SS EVERY DAY.  And play Cabrera at 2B and Mesoraco at C, EVERY DAY.

Pick a lineup and stick with it, for the love of Christ.  And stop playing these !@#$ing relics!!!!!!!!!!
