I had a cold Miller Lite after walking around what I can best describe as Mayberry, RFD, town square with my dog. I drink very little beer these days, maybe one/month (though wine in another story), but that was one good, cold beer. NOT being some clever craft beer was actually a relief.

why?

To me..that is like someone saying" liked that my grilled steak was grey all around the edges ...forget that fancy sous vide crap"

I get it. Sometimes the simplicity of an ice cold Miller Lite or Labatt can be a refreshing break from the world of fancy pants craft beers. After I get done mowing the lawn, I want a Miller Lite not a double whipple IPA.

Certainly there are different beers for different occasions. I'm most likely not going to drink a Corona in the dead of winter. Just like I'm probably not going to drink a oatmeal stout while playing slow pitch softball lol. That would not turn out well.

I also agree with this somewhat....although, i'd reach for an all-day ipa over a bud 99% of the time, but sometimes, if you can't be with the one you love....love the one your with

I get it...but I think it's also just as simple putting a nice cold Victory Prima Pils down my gullet

Remember, I still drink Genny quite a bit...so my taste buds and intelligence are off as a starting point!

a person not used to drinking craft beer would never think to substitute their bud light, coors light, corona etc for a prima pils or a founders all day, it's an intimidating leap and also a more expensive one. so i completely get staying in your comfort zone, all you can do is educate them that not all craft beer is heavy alcohol and body....

i've been there a few times and i have a friend here that drives down there practically ever week for their releases, he brings a mule with him so he can get double the allotment. Their beer is very, very, very good

Hey Pooj, not sure if you come back to Richmond or not, but if you do lets plan on a trip here.

So China good, America bad. Regulation good, corporate power bad. Never thought I'd hear that from you.

I'm not a fan of the corporate merger mania in any industry. It rarely benefits anyone except the lawyers and accountants.

And of course, one of the few things government is supposed to do to help (antitrust) they completely abandon 9 times out of 10.

I agree but of all of the presidents Theodore Roosevelt did best job IMO.

Bells Two Hearted is one of my all time fav's. Enjoy! I can't seem to find it much here in VT, but there are quite a few suitable replacements.

A friend of mine makes VT beer runs from time to time & comes back with a trunk full of Alchemist, Hill Farmstead, and others to share. But I think my favorite IPA may be Jai Alai by Cigar City in Tampa.

Alchemist is good but overrated, IMO. I have yet to try Hill Farmstead, but have heard good things. Those guys were too cool to attend the Stowe brew fest last summer. My favorite IPA is a local one called Fiddlehead.

between fiddlehead, sip of sunshine, bissel brothers, trillium and tree house, alchemist and hill farmstead are being pushed aside by much better offerings. And if you ever get a chance to get your hands on veil out of richmond, do it. tired hands out of my area(philly area) is also a great catch, but like hill farmstead, they are way too cool for you and i(but damn they make some fine beer)

Fiddlehead & Sip of Sunshine were also part of the last batch my buddy brought home from VT. Everything was good, but I don't recall any of them standing out from the rest. Hill Farmstead has been making a strong push in NYC over the past year or so.

if you are in NYC, I assume you have done Other Half & Singlecut, they are making some excellent beers. Going up there for a Yankee Game in a couple weeks and trying to pick 2 must visit breweries in the boroughs. Other Half is probably on that list

I want to say that I saw a Tired Hands beer at my local beer store last night. I'm going to go check this afternoon. It is the weekend, and I can have 2 beers (or drinks) per night!! Woohoo!!

Rock Art, Foley Brothers, 14th Star, and Otter Creek Brewery are also putting out some really good beers in Vermont. Otter Creek has a new session IPA (the name escapes me now) that I actually like better than Founders.

I've had beers by both, but have yet to visit either tasting room. Other Half is walking distance from my place, so I should be ashamed of myself for not having stopped in yet. I've heard nothing but good things about it. Singlecut is also on my list of places to visit soon. Transmitter in Long Island City is another one that's probably worth checking out.

was so happy today to see the SeaQuench from Dogfish sold in a 6 pack can. I like cans much better than bottles.

Just went to the Dogfish site and said 60 Minute is in cans as well...and while i have no seen them yet, that would be great. I love 60 Minute as a good everyday beer.

I've been on a sours kick lately. I like Aunt Sally from Lagunitas, but I've really been enjoying Sour Monkey from victory. It's 9.5% alcohol which is unusual for a sour but it's nice because you can sip it and get where you want to be, and as much as I like sours they're too tart to pound.

To Plenz, Pooger, and anyone else who frequents Richmond, Strangeways brewery off Dabney Rd has a great cucumber melon sour. It's a little pricey but it's good.

Is SeaQuench good? Saw it for the first time at Wegmans last night, and intended to look it up (so, thanks for the reminder!)... Sounds awful based on the name :D

As for me, Wegmans previously had a Unibroue mixed 6-pack that I was looking for last night, but I think they were out of it. Ended up with Bell's Oberon.

Yes, they are a fun brewery with some of their offerings, sadly they seem to be neglected because of the clustering effect of the breweries popping up in the area,

More like a Gose than anything else..tart, light...could see having one or two on nice warm spring/summer day. I would rate it a 6 out of 10.

I don't know why but I like the tarts and just can't really get on board with the Gose. They are too fruity I think. I enjoy 1 but then I have to switch off of them.
