Interesting NFL Coaching Stats

A lot of interesting statistics with regard to NFL Head Coaches (hires, fires, longevity, etc.) over the past 10 years:

One of the more relevant stats with regard to the current Bills HC situation:

Interim coaches have had a pretty decent shot at getting the full-time job. Out of 24 interim coaches, five were hired for the full-time gig. Given the amount of coaches teams typically interview, those odds aren’t bad, since teams will survey the whole league (and the college ranks), then bring in multiple candidates.

As owners of the Buffalo Bills, the Pegulas are hopelessly incompetent. No decent coach will want the Buffalo Bills HC job.[/quote

I take it you must be a very close friend of the Pegulas to throw out a statement like that. How else could you know?

tired take, go away

There are 32 NFL head coaching jobs in the world, to speculate that someone would not want one of them, if so lucky as to be offered, is amateur hour.

I don't agree that it will be hard to hire a competent coach, but both Marrone and Mularkey turned down a HC job in Buffalo. Not saying it's Pegula's fault, but it has happened.

Marrone didn't turn down he walked away. Considering the situation, someone maybe his wife had convinced he was this hot name and would easily get a new job, so he took $4 mil, walked away, figured he'd get a better job, paying even more once the bidding started. Problem was he didn't realize how much quitting on a team tarnished his name. He'd have been much better off if the Pegulas had come in and said we're cleaning house and bringing in our own people, so you're fired. Then being out of his control, likely he'd have been hired right away.

Mularkey too recall there was something going on, think it was Levy being hired as GM, he was afraid he's be let go in a year as not one of Levy's guys. Little did he realize at the time Levy wasn't going to fire anyone unless everyone agreed he needed to be fired as he called himself the consensus builder. And that was 10 years prior to Pegula's being here so not in any way related to them.

Jeez do you realize what a moron you sound like.

You need to take a close, honest look at the current state of the Buffalo Bills and the Buffalo Sabres. Both professional sports teams owned by the Pegulas. Both professional sports teams are in bad shape and things aren't looking up. Unless you're wearing a pair of those rose colored glasses.

nitpicking - 2 coaches voluntarily left a head coaching job for the Bills. I can't recall this happening in other cities. Just sayin

I'm with those who say the Pegula's look like lottery winners who struck it rich and got lucky. They do not appear to have a clue of what it takes to build a winner.

Let's look at their brief history since taking over the Sabres in February 2011; Pat Lafontaine quits or is fired, Doug Marrone walks away from the Bills, Rex Ryan schmoozes with the Pegula's on their luxury yacht and brings the bottle of red Brandon said Terry had a penchant for. Rex Ryan is hired at $5 million a year on a 5 year contract. Reports start leaking as early as Dec 15 that Rex could be fired without the playoffs in year 2. Flash forward to week 2, Greg Roman is fired after involvement from the owners holding a players only meeting. Early Dec 16 reports begin to swirl hours before the Pittsburgh game that Rex could be fired and Tyrod benched if they lose. Rex is fired 2 weeks later, and the team issues a 5 paragraph statement to the public. The very next day interim coach Anthony Lynn is trotted before the media meanwhile Whaley & Pegula fail to address the media, and Lynn basically says higher management benched Tyrod and they'd have to ask Whaley or Pegula why.

Does this sound like a franchise that has a clue of what the hell they are doing?

I'm not sold on the Pegula's getting this right, but in what you listed I only see 2 mistakes, albeit big ones. Hiring Lafontaine - no qualifications other than being a fan favorite, Hiring Rex, got caught up in Rex's sales pitch and likely didn't heed the advice of this football department(Whaley). Everything else is petty stuff.
