How do the Bills get an elite QB?

Since Brady & Belichek have been around, the rest of the AFC East has not had an elite/very good QB. The only way the Bills are going to have a real shot of competing against the Patriots is to have an elite QB that can pass for 300-400 yards and put more than 30 points against them. Should the Bills contact the Saints and try and trade for Brees (it would take some high draft picks) or wait two or three years and trade up in the draft when an elite collegeQB is available at the top of the draft (would take a few #1 draft picks)?

You could just start a new thread like this every year at the end of the season. Probably next year too.

If only we had unlimited draft picks every year, I bet we could find the right guys. Or just let the bills do their rounds 1-7 drafts all before any other team gets to draft at all. That would work. We would have a major salary cap issue eventually, but we could win a Superbowl with rookies.

The only other alternative would be to tank for a couple of years to draft an elite QB

And what if you tank the wrong year?

Or what if the guy you tank for gets a major injury that year?

Or what if you are just wrong in your pick?

Then you tanked for nothing. Tanking is dumb.

You can either recognize talent or you can't. And if you can, you can get it in every round.

How many Superbowls has Indy won with Andrew Luck?

Was it still worth tanking?

Right because those just grow on trees...apparently there was one in this past draft named Dak Prescott and teams were so enamored over him they let him fall to the 4th round where Dallas backed into selecting him only because they couldn't put a trade together to move up for Paxton Lynch...

It's apparent that Bills have been able to consistently identity talent at the QB position for almost 20 years now. Otherwise this wouldn't even be an issue.

Do what Philly did. Identify the guy and do what you gotta do to make the trade to move up happen. But get a premium talent at QB at all cost, basically. If you gotta give away THREE years first rounders, do it. Then for the next three years make sure your drafting is SPOT ON. Build the team around "the guy"

And what if you miss with your "sure thing"?

Dude. Stay away from the Bills front office. Are you sure you're not a Jet's/Dolphins/Patriots fan?

Kidding....

Dont miss... We gave an extra first round pick to get Sammy. Why not give two first rounds for a QB who performs like Prescott?

CLEARLY trading up to get a top QB is NOT the answer (JP, EJ).

What the bills need to get better production from their QB is a brick wall of an O-line. Load up front and then get a reasonable decision maker to make a few throws and manage a game. If Alex Smith can go to the playoffs regularly, then there are non-elite options available that can get the job done, but not unless the QB can use play action to set and throw.

The running game is fine, but we need a QB that can throw from the pocket on time.
