Why did the police tackle him? Is he suicidal? Or inebriated? In any event, I wish him and his family well and hope they all get the support and help that they may need.

The Governor said Florida is a law and order State.

Maybe a social worker with the police might help . When the caller mentioned a firearm they might be less patient with a possible suicide call. Suicide by cop is also possible for someone in that frame of mind. I do hope he recovers.

That turned out to be excellent police work

Using a hostage negotiator  like this should be even more widespread with so many mental health calls today.

And yet another one of "my generals" piles on:

https://www.politico.com/news/2020/10/01/former-national-security-adviser-trump-putin-424458

Former national security adviser H.R. McMaster said Thursday that President Donald Trump is “aiding and abetting” Russian President Vladimir Putin’s efforts to sow doubt about the American electoral system.

The stern warning from McMaster, who Trump handpicked to lead the White House National Security Council in 2017, came in an interview on MSNBC, after he was asked whether he agreed that the president posed the greatest threat to U.S. election integrity.

“I agree that he is aiding and abetting Putin’s efforts by not being direct about this, right? By not just calling out Putin for what he’s doing,” McMaster said.

“You know, Putin gets away with, I mean, literally murder or attempted murder … because people don’t call him out on it,” he added. “And so they are able to continue with this kind of fire hose of falsehood, to sow these conspiracy theories. And we just can’t be our own worst enemies.”

One of the architects of the coup piles on you mean. Who needs details when you got... (checks notes) ... McMaster to tell you what to think. Keep on ignoring the evidence and keep on listening to what others tell you to think about it instead.

It's done a great job so far of making sure you're uninformed.

The coup. Riiiiight ....

I finally figured out the closest historical analogue to this new little subculture - Lyndon LaRouche.

An amusing little footnote to American politics in the 1980s - 2000s.

Career Prosecutor Torches Bill Barr In Epic Resignation Editorial
Ouch, that's gonna leave a mark.

“After 36 years, I’m fleeing what was the U.S. Department of Justice — where I proudly served 19 different attorneys general and six different presidents,” former Assistant U.S. Attorney Phillip Halpern wrote yesterday in the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Halpern calls out Barr for his blatantly partisan intervention to help Donald Trump’s friends and punish his enemies, beginning with the deliberate mischaracterization of the Mueller report, and rising to a feverish crescendo of impropriety in 2020.

Unfortunately, over the last year, Barr’s resentment toward rule-of-law prosecutors became increasingly difficult to ignore, as did his slavish obedience to Donald Trump’s will in his selective meddling with the criminal justice system in the Paul Manafort, Michael Flynn and Roger Stone cases. In each of these cases, Barr overruled career prosecutors in order to assist the president’s associates and/or friends, who potentially harbor incriminating information. This career bureaucrat seems determined to turn our democracy into an autocracy.

The piece is a scathing indictment, and the country is much the worse without Halpern and the dedicated prosecutors pushed out by Barr’s incompetent mismanagement of the Justice Department.

I like the sentiment.

But ... 36 years experience? Check. Law Degree? Check. That would make him just about ... 60 or 62 years old. Or normal federal employee retirement age.

I would've been a lot more impressed by the gesture had he left a little sooner ...

I mean Barr has only been in office for less than 2 years now.

OK. I'll give him a break.

But the fair headline here would be "Newly Retired Assistant U.S. Attorney Decries Politicization of Justice Department." Not "36 Year Veteran Federal Prosecutor Resigns Over Politicization of Justice Department."

Whataboutism.  Nice.  Barr is a threat to democracy, and you haven’t denied it.

I do not understand Barr at all.

He was probably the most bland Attorney General in my career as a lawyer his first time around under Bush 41. Standard issue country club Republican. Perfect fit for Bush 41. Never did anything unexpected. All by the book.

And his post-AG life -- big law firm, making money, flying under the political radar -- gave no indication that he'd turn into a crusader for executive power of the Trump sort. Nobody I know saw this coming.
