@NYTSports: EXCLUSIVE: Hall of Fame won't allow Junior Seau's family to speak at his induction. http://t.co/SJLiZbL2HNhttp://t.co/vzysBVFkcC

They must be scared of what they will say about CTE/long term health issues?

Damn that is ****ty.This is where the inductees should make a stink.A class move would be too call them up during one of the inductees speeches to give voice to a fellow warriors family.

it would be more suspicious if it was only Seau, but the article says they've been doing this since 2011.

I guess they could've foreseen this happening...

IMO, player's family or close friends should be able to speak, even if it is redundant. Maybe just give them a time limit.

there is that new rule but it just doesn't seem like he right thing to do. Seau was a special player. Edited by YoloinOhio

I agree that it doesn't seem right. Someone should be able to speak on the player's behalf. Not just a video. Or have them record their speech so it is incorporated into the video and then the video can be designed so that it's not redundant. Problem solved?

This is sad, and probably wrong, but I'd hate to be inducted and have this steal all the attention from one of the most important days of my life. I'm not sticking up for the NFL or the decision (I don't want to hear about it!), but I'm pleased for those going in this year. So, maybe a silver lining, even if unintended.

Someone should speak on his behalf. Preferably a Family member?
and it should be done last. as memorium to players who have past.

The celebration of life and then the remembrance.

sounds proper to me

agree. its a 4 yr old rule that should be reviewed and applied where appropriate. His family donated his brain for CTE research. Doesn't this situation require some humanity over a rule? His daughter just wanted to say some words that she thinks her dad would have said.

Hopefully they reconsider. My dad passed earlier this year and less than 10 minutes ago got word a friends dad had passed unexpectedly. Neither were NFL HOF material, but if they were, I'd want them to be represented by family.

The NFL doesn't own or run the "Pro Football Hall of Fame". They didn't make this rule 5 years ago, the HOF did.

Depending on how the wind blows going forward, I would guess the NFL might suggest that the HOF make an exception.
