An Interesting Quote In Regards To Buffalo, and The Bills

Recommended Posts

This is from The New Yorker, Feb. 16, 2015 issue, which had a long article on Andrew and, to a lesser extent, Mario Cuomo. As his second inaugural approached, which would take place both in NYC and in Buffalo, Andrew kept trying to get his father to accompany him. But Mario was too weak and close to death. Andrew decided to give it one more try, and this is the quote about that from the article:

"So Andrew made him an offer. If Mario felt up to it, Andrew would take him along to Buffalo: 'And he loved Buffalo, my father. Buffalo was probably the worst-off part of the state for a lot of years. And the Buffalo Bills were always an underdog, so he was very drawn to Buffalo, as am I.'"

It was just as Andrew Cuomo stepped down from the stage in Buffalo that he was informed that his father had passed away.

I would like to see Andrew Coumo trampled by a buffalo.

I haven't lived in New York for a while but my brother, who I consider to be very knowledgeable, is a big fan of his. What is it that you dislike about him so much that you would derive pleasure from watching him get trampled (presumably to death) by a buffalo?

Coumo personifies the slimy politician stereotype. His patronizing nature toward any area north of NYC is one reason for my dislike. His insistence on "feel-good" BS gun regulations are a major sticking point with me. The SAFE act is one of the most misguided and useless bunch of laws ever enacted. Not a single person will be saved by his asinine requirement that you only fill a 10 round magazine with 7 rounds. (criminals intent on killing people won't follow that law).

He touted the fact that he "created" Text Stops along the thruway. What he really did was spend a bunch of $ on signs that were tacked on to the current rest stop signs. If you are too stupid to realize that you can pull over to text at a rest stop, you probably shouldn't be driving a motor vehicle in the first place. But it got his face in the paper. Coumo never met a camera that he didn't like.

He is enemy # 1 with educators in the state right now too. I'm sure I could dig up other examples, but this isn't PPP so I'll just end by stating that he isn't one of my favorite people and it wouldn't upset me to see him get kicked in the nuts by a buffalo.

Funny, my brother has had direct dealing with Coumo considers him a thug. Coumo is going to have big problems from the fallout of the Sheldon Silver indictment. Shelly knows where all the bodies are buried.

Absolutely not. It's taken a hit from Kodak but is still outperforming the Buffalo metro area on a number

of metrics...

Wrong, Rochester ranks worse than Buffalo in every poverty measure, graduation rates and crime metrics. You're living in the 70's.

One of the reason upstate has struggled is MARIO C policies , and now ANDY says he has a affinity for buffalo ,what a pile of BS . since hes been in office lets see ,hes made a stupid gun policy stupid marijuana law , shut down a commission investigating politicians for corruption and made gay marriage legal, if hes looking out for buffalo ,look out!!

You are both wrong. Syracuse is far worse off than Buffalo and Rochester. I am proud as hell of my Syracuse and no one is going to tell me it's not the worst in the state, dammit.

Not on crime. Buffalo beats out Rochester rather handily as being more crime-ridden.

But Rochester does barely edge out Buffalo with a slightly higher poverty rate (27.9% to 26.4%, respectively).

Syracuse isn't on the list of worst cites for crime, economy, or graduation rates. Although, to be fair, I'm not sure if anyone is paying any attention to Syracuse.

I'm talking about the metro area. Cities are irrelevent to the NFL....

Still, if you want to compare horse apples to horse apples:

http://www.city-data.com/top2/c3.html

You can produce several of those surveys will show either Buffalo or Rochester or Syracuse switching positions but they're all very close. There's no victory in having everybody razor thin and in bad situations. The point is is that they were all in a bad way. Yet Buffalo got a billion dollars from the governor, Rochester and Syracuse didn't get squat. The reason for that is all you need is New York City and Buffalo to win a statewide election. So the rest of the state, Rochester and Syracuse and Binghamton, can all go to hell as far as they're concerned - and we are. And by the way, I live in the city so they're not irrelevant! And the metro area surrounding a failing city is bound to under perform and/or fail itself.

There's a misconception that the Buffalo Billion was for the city of Buffalo...it was not, it was a regional award (of which less than $300 million has actually been received to date). As the second largest city/region in NYS, the reason for the award is obvious, IMO.

The Rochester / Finger Lakes region will assuredly receive one of the $500 million slugs from the $1.5 billion competition in July. And I expect Syracuse / Central New York and Binghamton / Southern Tier will win the other two.

The upstate cities are held hostage by their abysmal public school systems. Until that fact changes, they will continue to be mired in poverty...

The Southern Tier is far worse off than Buffalo was.

Your not kidding and the things that could have helped in the Central Southern Tier, fracking and a casino we got screwed over on. But Andrew washed his hands like Pontious Pilot of the matters and blamed the shill commisions that HE appointed. I don't think he even knows where we are as the casino was lost to Seneca County to a spot adjacent to the NYS Thruway, and I don't believe the guy has ever set foot in Chemung County. For the record I voted for him, oh well.

...To stay on topic, glad Mario liked the Bills.

Guys, hate to break this to you, but it seams (New York education) that the whole state is hosed. Olive in South Carolina and there is that commercial on TV that NY state offers tax deductions for going there. now I already know that New a york will make their money back within three years of these deductions ending. Crap, here I am talking about politics. My bad. I need to rinse my mouth out with rubbing alcohol.
