The chopping block

Plus, why would they sign him to a 1-year extension and then cut him? He is going to play next year, be as reliable as always, and then retire with a super bowl win by the bills.

Exactly. I couldn't remember if it was 1 yr or 2, it seemed the plan was to play out that deal and probably retire.

Eric Pears, Craig Urbik (we can definitely do better in free agency and the draft) & please Lee Smith who I cannot figure out why he is still on the team. Freddie stays as he is the leader in the locker room and had over 60 catches last season. I would keep Chris Williams just to see what he has got as we didn't really get a good look at him in 2014.

Not so sure Jackson and Lawson will be cut. McKelvin is my surprise cut, after we sign Revis.

I still wouldn't cut him. He has value whether as a returner, in the dime, and how often do you lose corners? Always. He has a reasonable contract and therefore stays. Even if we signed Revis and I don't think we will.

I'm not sure how cutting Fred Jackson would look to the rest of the team. But I do know this, on that offense nobody should be safe.

Fred does look slower that he has in the past.

What would be the big deal if he got cut anyway? I want the best man to win, competition everywhere. I won't settle on a position because leadership is being overvalued past talent.

And what better way to set the tone on the team, to let them know who's boss, when you cut Fred Jackson loose because he's not cutting it in training camp vs better competition? There's a new Sheriff in town.

Hope Rex does cut Fred Jackson kind of. I want to see what Bryce Brown is going to do, hell Boobie looked better than Fred.

Yep there sure is. And the new Sheriff doesn't want to come in and remove a Captain. Also, you do know we aren't re signing Spiller and he will be replaced a guy who nobody thinks will make it out of camp right? Brown will get plenty of snaps next season. Fred does not get cut next season.

This is a 9 and 7 team....u dont start cutting team leaders who led by example when a team is on the upswing.......

You do draft his understudy....of which I am pretty sure Spiller is not it

The only thing I can conclude from your post is that.... YOU don't want Fred cut. Okay, so stop talking like you know what's going to happen.

I'm not saying Fred needs to be cut before training camp even begins, I am saying that we should not settle on an aging back who is clearly in decline now. You also do not just keep team leaders around and start them just because they are leaders. Seems like common sense to me to always have open competition at every position and to always keep searching for ways to improve the team. Fred is no Demarco Murray. He's in the bottom half of the league at this point in his career in terms of talent.

Given Romans offense I cant see the bills "settle" on Fred Jackson.......just too much run compared to pass and Fred had to be platooned last year as it is. I def do see him on the team next year.

The possiblity of a new RB assuming the large amount of load is very real.......but the fact is Fred's contract really isnt that expensive.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if Freddy gets cut. Rex will have the final say and he doesn't necessarily have the loyalty that Marrone and Nate did.

This quote from Whaley at the Senior Bowl sounds like Marrone was the one loyal to Fred :

Q: Why didn't Bryce Brown get on the field more?

Whaley: They did a lot of switching in and out. It seemed like every time a guy would make a big run, they would substitute. I think it was just the rotation of it. Then with Fred being here the longest and knowing the offense the most, I think they felt, in certain situations, more comfortable having him out there. But we're excited this year coming in with the emphasis and commitment to the run game. There's going to be a rotation, but I don't think it's going to be as quick for guys. I think they'll be able to stay in and get a feel for what they're doing and get in a groove.

"They" are gone. And Boobie will probably know this offense better

Surprise cut

Eric Wood - has been awful for the last 2 seasons needs to take a pay cut or get cut.

Chris Williams- This dude can't stay healthy and otherwise not even an average player when healthy. Idk what Whaley sees in the guy.

Wood hasn't been great but why does he need to take a pay cut? The Bills do not need to clear cap space......some vets are FA who will not be re-signed...
