1. Play Urbik to RG

2. Deactivate Lee Smith

3. Move Pears into Smith's blocking TE/penalty collector role

4. Activate Bryce Brown

5. Play Dixon in the role CJ is playing when they run into the line.

6. Play Fred like they did against Lions and spell him with Brown

6. Use CJ as decoy/gadget/screen/sweep type role ONLY and KOR

Marrone also said he was going to hire coordinators with thorough NFL experience and then hired Hackett the very next day whose highest coaching title in the NFL was Offensive Quality Control.

Marrone likes to talk a big game but he really has no clue what to do.

The pathetic part is that we don't study and watch film for a living and we could probably be doing a better job. Sad.

Some media type has got to get to the bottom of why Urbik hasn't seen the field yet at what is a terrible guard position for this team. Did he get caught making fun of Marrone behind his back or something? There's a reason why you don't see 6'7" guards, and Pears exemplifies that. How he rates starting over Urbik is inexplicable.

Wade Smith was just released

Who is Wade Smith?

Long term, Marrone needs to change how he values guards. You can't just "coach em up". You need at least one of them to be athletically gifted enough to deal with the stud DT's that nearly every team has. The Dt's are #1 picks for a reason. For the short term, try passing in the 1st quarter instead of running 2 out of every 3 plays, mostly right up the middle with their smallest back. Play Urbik (not a great alternative but better than Pears). Pears can be blocking TE.

I think you will find the running game will be fine

5 of the 6 teams buffalo played are top 10 defenses

That's true, but if you want to make it to the first round of the playoffs and beyond you must be able to run effectively against good defenses.

Isn't he also acting as an on-the-field coach for Henderson?

That was funny at the time, not so much in retrospect.

Doesn't every head coach hire his cronies? Remember Greggo hiring his woefully underqualified Best Man to coach the offensive line?

Don't forget PRs.

It's harder to play guard as a taller guy, but plenty of guys do it. It's more an issue of being able to play low, not upright and angular.

Alex Boone of SF is 6'8", Jeromy Clary of SD (on IR) is 6'7", James Brewer of NYG is 6'6", Jeff Linkenbach of Indy is 6'6", Austin Howard of Oakland is 6'7", Todd Herremans of Philly is 6'6", Ramon Foster of Pittsburgh is 6'6", Kyle Long of Chicago is 6'6", Geoff Scwhartz of NYG is 6'6".

I guess my point is that it's not about height; it's about being able to play with low pad level, transitioning away from OT instincts, playing in limited space, learning to receive an exchange from an OT on a stunt, and many other factors.

Sal Maiorana

@salmaiorana

Yes. RT @slcrubes: @salmaiorana What happened to Urbik? Is he really worse than Richardson and Pears?

So there you have it.
