Lets say the Bills did not want to draft a QB in 2013.

As mentioned, I would have taken the 2nd trade and hopefully would have taken Eifert, Woods and Kiko. Can't fault the draft department on the Kiko pick (nor the Woods), but there were other good choices at WR besides Woods in the 2nd if they could not get him.

WR Tavon Austin at 8 WR Cordarrlle Patterson at 16

More gems from the best best poster on this site. Austin: 29 for 198, 6.8 ypc, 2 tds. http://www.nfl.com/player/tavonaustin/2539336/profile

Patterson: 11 catches for 107, 9.7 ypc, 0 tds. http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/stats/_/id/15807/cordarrelle-patterson

Woods: 21 for 298 yards, 2 tds http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/stats/_/id/15880/robert-woods

Goodwin (3 games): 4 for 51, 17 ypc, 1 td http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/stats/_/id/15839/marquise-goodwin

So you're masterplan would be to draft 2 wrs not as good as wrs we drafted in the 2nd and 3rd rounds?

Kinda of a silly thread because EJ was competing for the offensive rookie of the year but to answer, Tyler Eifert because I think he is going to be a real good TE. But I guess we've just have to live with our stupid Manuel & Alonso for Tavon Austin trade.

It's getting almost as old as people wishing away EJ halfway through his rookie season....

+1

EJ has been progressing nicely and looked on his way to a big step- a road night win (something this franchise hasn't done often) before the injury derailed it. But some fans just love a controversy, even a manufactured one.

While I am not saying that Woods was not a good pick, (I was very happy with the pick) or that Goodwin may end up being a good pick. If you are comparing WRs, lets look at the complete big picture. These are the WRs drafted after Woods and before Goodwin. Any of them would have been a good pick, although I’m not sure Dobson would do as well as he did without having the best QB in the NFL throwing to him.

OG Kyle long or FS Eric Reid

edit: this is with still trading down to 16...but if I wasn't taking E.J. at 16 I would have pulled that second trade ppl are saying Buffalo was offered and still grabbed Kiko and Woods in rd 2..and if E.J was still there in rd 2 I'd grab him there.

the reported proposal was with San Fran trading down to their spot at 31 and likely gaining a few more picks.

the problem and why they didnt do this....

Philadelphia being near the top of the second round would have likely made a trade with New England and jumped ahaead of Buffalo to draft EJ.

Chip Kelly seriously looked at EJ in recruiting him to Oregon. He would have pulled the trigger on this deal.

Buffalo would have moved down to around 20-23 if a deal was offered.

Both of those guys are playing with top 10 QBs. Hopefully EJ gets there, but it's a big difference catching passes from Romo & Rivers than Manuel and Lewis.

Definitely Eifert at 16, he and Chandler would be kinda Gronk/Hernandez-esque.

The trade really could not have turned out better for us though, Tavon is looking a little bustish and if there was a redraft today Kiko would probably go top 10 or 15.

Any new thoughts on this now?

WR Tavon Austin at 8 WR Cordarrlle Patterson at 16

Funny.

After watching lots of video of Austin after he became the "Flavor of the Week" about one week before the draft, I developed serious concerns as to whether he would have the temperament to survive in the NFL at 5'8" and 175 pounds.

Men that size have succeeded but many more have failed and judging by his video, he didn't seem like he had the toughness that guys like Steve Smith and Santana Moss have.

Austin seems like an extremely finesse-orientated player and I wondered how he would react to being around men much larger than him that were nearly as quick and fast.

It's too early to judge any rookie from this class but Austin looks disappointing so far and has a long ways to go to allay doubts about his toughness.

Meanwhile Marquis Goodwin is playing on kick coverage teams.

Obviously the team needed to trade down, too many holes on the roster. But lets say they didn't like any of the QB's in the draft, and they restructured Fitz or got a more legit QB option in free agency/trade. At pick 16 I would have taken Tyler Efiert or Kyle Long, both players fill a huge hole on the offense.
