Kelly the Dog Posted May 1, 2013 Share Posted May 1, 2013 I don't know, the script is supposed to be pretty well respected. It was considered the best "unproduced script" on The Black List in 2012. And it may sound like a stupid award or ranking, but in the past, other movies that have gotten on the number 1 unproduced script include Argos and Social Network. So chances are, the script cant be horrible, though movies are very subjective. The script is horrible. I read it. I will send it to you if you want. Everyone I know in the film business that read it thinks it sucks, and we have no idea how it got rated that high on the Black List. We just assume that whomever read it that rated it so good must not have known anything about football, the draft, the NFL, or Buffalo, because the writers sure didn't seem to. The tax base and jobs of a movie shooting in buffalo would be great so the governor should love it - the honor it would bring to the franchise would be slim to none so I doubt the bills are scrambling to sign up for something to replace it.... And of course they'd meet with Brandon if planning on using the stadium and team logos. I guess the way I look at the Draft Day Movie is from a marketing standpoint . The premiere in 2014 probably around the time of the draft and casual fans of the NFL might take a greater interest in the Bills after seeing the movie. In 2014 The Bills will be in their second season under Marrone and should be improving. If they win and make the playoffs soon afterwards, there maybe an entire new group of Bills Fans as a result. IF, and it's an if at this time, Pettine gets this defense to play to its enormous potential and Hackett brings a wide open attack featuring never before seen talent from a Buffalo receiving corp and featuring a rookie prototype QB of the Legaues future, no way in hell do I want ANYBDY seeing any part of it 'till we spring on the perennial Division Champs Opening Sunday. We don't want to show them anything at all, the only video they'll have is from the vanilla preseason. Ooh I forgot it's not far off where we can blame/ignore the "vanilla"! I have seen every single episode- most more than once- since season 2 (I missed the Ravens one). Honestly, it's like porn for real football fans. And while I could certainly see why the Bills (or any team for that matter) wouldn't want the distraction, like another poster pointed out, it certainly didn't hurt the Dolphins last year. And how can any of you who have actually watched the show sit here and tell me you wouldn't be incredibly excited to watch the Bills on Hard Knocks? I mean, I get excited enough watching the Chiefs and the Bengals and the Dolphins- teams I don't give a s*** about. I would go nuts to see the Bills up close and personal like that, it would be awesome! To see who's cool and who's a douche. Who works hard, who dogs it. To root for that undrafted rookie FA who everyone's pulling for. Anyone who says they wouldn't get excited to watch it is either lying to themself or hasn't seen the show. Give me an example of a team that has underachieved relative to their talent as a result of being on Hard Knocks. It's an old wives tale. an urban legend. Once again, after last season's Hard Knocks, I thought there was a decent chance the Dolphins would go 0-16. All that being said, if I'm Doug Marrone, I wouldn't want it, but it wouldn't have an effect either way. Hey Buffalo could use a little publicity. However I believe Buddy Nix and Doug Marrone would not want the added pressure especially during Marrone's First TC. The Bills turned it down last year. Watching the Miami season from last year, they dont show much or anything at all as far as plays and schemes and stuff goes. There were no tactical advantages gained by other teams. Nothing was exposed. You are correct in your first sentence though: "There is, literally, nothing that being on Hard Knocks contributes to a team's win-loss record." And that goes either way. Splashy new head coach, interesting QB situation including a highly publicized rookie with something to prove, the 2nd year guy out to stake his claim AND the grizzled vet trying to keep his job and big fat check. Well known player trying to come back from serious injury (Jason Peters). Top 5 draft pick at a key position who is expected to play right away. Interesting UDFA situation at RB behind Lesean McCoy with several candidates to win the job. On top of all of that you have the Eagles coming out of the Andy Reid regime which was one of the least media friendly in the league. Reid's stonewalling intransigence is/was epic. He recorded one interview in 1999 - memorized it - and repeated it for 14 years. He repeatedly chastized the media for asking questions that he didn't want to answer (even if they were appropriate questions). He called the top afternoon drive time sports radio guy "Bold" to his face after he asked a question about Reid's brutal goalline playcalling which had been brutal for years. Jeff Lurie (the owner) is a Hollywood guy. Chip Kelly is the flavor of the month and is MUCH more engaging with the media than Reid ever was. I don't think it is much of a negative distraction. And face it, these guys love being in the spotlight. Stevie would be in heaven. I like the idea. FAs don't want to go to Bflo because it is so irrelevant, but it wou;d be great exposure for picking up future FAs to see things like the fans at St John Fisher, how the new staff interacts, and don't forget the weather would be fantastic that time of year. Bflo would shine on nataional TV. Would love to see Crazy Kiko, as well as how smart and charismatic EJ would come across. I love the show and would be thrilled if the Bills were on it. Plus, they haven't made the playoffs in 13 years. They have never neem on Hard Knocks. Tell me why we don't want to try something different? The only appeal is a rookie QB and the new coaching staff. However, it wouldn't be smart for the organization to put that much pressure on such a young group. Bad idea.
