Explosions at the boston marathon

Recommended Posts

This is stunning.

One thing all the coverage I've heard keeps missing: the unbelievable amount of planning and preparation by the Boston and MA that went on for YEARS before this happened. For all the excitement at the "pointy end of the stick," you don't coordinate multiple local, state, and federal agencies this effectively and get results over a 100 hour span unless you've got a seriously well-thought out and detailed emergency plan. Compare this, for example, to the absolute lack of planning evident in the grabasstic fumbling around Waco 20 years ago or the complete cluster !@#$ of Katrina. Just having the lines of command and authority defined well enough to bring the hammer down this quickly is unbelievable.

As emergency planning goes, what Boston and MA are showing should be the new gold standard.

Color me skeptical over the whole thing. Why didn't these kids leave after the bombings? Will we capture one alive so we can question him for motive? As far as I'm concerned, the only thing these kids are guilty of so far is going to the Boston Marathon with book-bags.

Now I'm not saying they aren't guilty, I'd just like to see at least one of the two captured alive.

OK, Alex Jones....whatever you say. They found these two kids on the videos and tracked them down and they just happened to run away AND be armed, ready and willing to get into a skirmish with basically every piece of law enforcement in New England.

And getting into a shootout with police.

So would I. Chechen terrorists in the US is actually kinda weird. Particularly if they've been here for a decade, young as they are.

I had MSNBC on for about 10 minutes and this was the precise point being made by Mike Barnacle when I was watching. He said since 9/11 the city has been coordinating all of its agencies and that they were very prepared for this and you could see it on the streets as he was watching it evolve.

And getting into a shootout with police.

They just happened to have that stockpile of explosive to throw at police. If by some chance they were ever wrongly accused of a horrible crime, they could throw them at police. Just about everyone is prepared for that, right?

And the one who died had a bomb strapped to his chest, and it was basically the shrapnel from it that killed him.

What would you do if your face was plastered all over TV as a suspect of such a crime?

I didn't know that.

I think about 75% of Boston residents keep a suicide vest on hand just in case they are ever wrongly accused of bombing the Boston marathon. They sell them in the supermarkets out here.

Have bombs and guns at the ready? Kill a college security guard? Rob a convenient store? Engage in a shootout with the police?

Or maybe turn myself and clear the whole thing up like another teenager did after seeing his picture printed in the NY Post.

I'd still like to see the other one captured alive. What's his motive? What was he trying to accomplish? If he was trained by Al Qaeda why was it amateur night at the Apollo?

Rob a convenient store? Does that sound like the MO of Al Qaeda to you? You would think they could fund the whole operation better than that, wouldn't you?

I agree with you. It's way too early but it seems to me this kid was not trained by Al Qaeda although that may prove to be the case because what has leaked may not be true. He has been here since he was about 9. It would be truly scary if he was trained like that.

That's why people don't think it has anything to do with Al Qaeda. They had no money or resources.
