Mike Jenkins signs with Raiders

At least signing him would mean not drafting a CB, right?

Why don't you want us to draft a CB? Only here at TBD can we all agree our CBs suck, and even in this thread we all talk about how our starting CB is awful, yet we don't want to draft a CB.......

Those guys all stink. McKelvin has poor ball skills but he can cover. Oh, and btw, good corner play goes hand in hand with a good pass rush. How has ours been in McKelvin's time here? The answer is atrocious. Let's not blame ONE guy for things that an entire defense/coaching staff is responsible for.

Well said.

I think Jenkins is worth a look. He was highly touted coming out of school and talented enough to warrant a 1st round pick. We don't need him to come in and be the #1 CB; that is what Gilmore's job is. We need another solid CB as our dimeback. If we can get him at a good price, it is worth it. That would free up another position need wise for the draft. We're already short a pick so being able to sign a CB for nothing instead of having to invest a draft pick is a smart move. I think Jenkins could really solidify our backend:

CB1 - Gilmore

CB2 - McKelvin

CB3 - Aaron Williams/Ron Brooks

CB4 - Justin Rodgers/Jenkins

I would not be surprised if they went ahead and made Williams into a safety. He has the size and physical ability to be a SS. He hasn't exactly sunk his teeth into the starting job opposite Gilmore; I think McKelvin's new contract makes that crystal clear.

Jenkins would battle mckelvin for snaps from the second he signed. He's not a dime prospect anywhere.

Yet you could argue they are all better CBs than Leodis. Even Terrell Thomas who went with the last pick in the 2nd can be lumped in there.

He's a great returner. Lousy CB though. Any of those guys would have been a better pick....because you don't pick a return specialist in the top 10

Must have been a bad CB draft and should have waited till the next year to get one :D

We have some options at 8...

Option 1) Continue to improve our mediocre pass rush by drafting Jarvis Jones, Dion Jordan, Ziggy Ansah,

Option 2) Continue to build our offensive line by drafting Lane Johnson and move Cordy Glenn inside to LG.

Option 3) Continue to build the interior of our defensive line by drafting the best available DT.

These should be our ONLY options.

Some here are selling Jenkins short. Not to be picky, but it's just "MIKE" Jenkins, not Michael. Mike, in this case, is not short for Michael. His real first name is just "Mike."

Absolutely not on Lane Johnson. Another late riser because of workouts. Avoid those guys. Moving Cordy Glenn to the inside is not an option. He looked very solid last year. We don't need another defensive tackle at eight...

The pass rusher I could see. But I'll be upset if it's Jarvis Jones, and Jordan/Ansah will be gone. So... No.

Its pretty easy to narrow down those options IMO. I do not want to see Cordy Glenn moved inside to LG. He has too much length and athleticism to be wasted inside; his 6'6" is almost a disadvantage inside against the stockier DT's. The 6'1" Kyle Williams of the NFL have the leverage advantage against taller guards.

According to ProFootballFocus, we had the 13th best offensive line in 2012 (https://www.profootb...ensive-lines/3/). Guards are much easier to find later in the draft or in free agency. We don't need to invest a high pick there IMO. Lane Johnson is very tempting @ 8 to help bookend with Glenn at RT but I feel we have bigger fish to fry.

I would also scratch off the interior of the defensive line. There are some good DT's available but I am more then happy with Kyle Williams and Marcell Dareus as our starters. I think Dareus has a huge bounce back season and turns into that elite, playmaker on the inside. He went thru a very difficult time with his brother being murdered at the beginning of the season. With the new hybrid defense, more DT's will not be the problem. Probably will see a lot more 3 man fronts (Williams - Dareus - Williams) in the new defense.

What we will need is pass rushers. Specifically, an outside linebacker that can get after the QB. This team is desperately thin at LB as proven by their performance last season. I like the Lawson signing but that is only a small piece. We need a true stud OLB that can be out there in all situations & can be used in multiple roles in the new hybrid defense. Which is why I think we will be focusing on Jarvis Jones, Dion Jordan, Ezekiel Ansah or Barkevious Mingo. Out of those 4, I think at least 2 of them will be there for us at 8. I really hope the 2 are Jordan and Jones. They both are screaming to be on this roster and really would provide us with a very high intersection of BPA and Need. I personally am split down the middle with those two. Jones totaled 28 sacks and 44 tackles for loss over the past two seasons in the SEC. We all know Nix loves his SEC prospects. Jordan has less production but has amazing athleticism and less injury concern

BECAUSE WE HAVE NO QB, WRS, LBS, OR A LEFT GUARD.

This is pretty much my point...though I can guess you can argue that we have a QB now. Am I completely sold on our CB corps? No. But a reasonably priced sure thing for #2 or #3 CB gives us some much needed depth, especially considering what Pettine has been talking about with a nickel base defense. Considering how often our CBs are injured, I would happily take some insurance before taking someone in the late rounds.

Whoa, whoa, whoa...get it straight.

Gilmore is the new Revis.

McKelvin is the new Cromartie.

Aaron Williams is the new...uhm...uhh...Fireman Ed?

As for Jenkins, I'm fine with bringing him in for competition. Have him, Williams and McKelvin duke it out in training camp and set our CB order. You can never have too many CBs, especially since it seems Ron Brooks has been moved to Safety.

I missed Brooks moving to safety. That makes zero sense. He show flashes of promise in his limited game action and he's got too much speed and not enough size to stick him at SS.

I though Williams was the safety pretending to play corner.

Fixed and thanks.

My sister's name is Kris and only Kris. She gets upset when people try to turn it into Kristin or Christine.

Michael Jenkins is a WR who just signed with NE

Mike Jenkins is the corner who is visiting Buffalo

Just sayin

Got it, only need to be told once. But thanks for reiterating.

My apologies to all Mike's, Micheal's, Mikey's, etc. I may have insulted, I know they appreciate you looking out for them.

Brooks is not moving to safety. Some one is confused : )He has a ton of potential at the corner back postion imo. I expected him to push for the #2 this year but worse case a very servicable nickel backer.

M. Jenkins is worth a look for sure.

as mentioned would save a draft pick and add some Vet experience which we need now.

if A williams moves to safety thats fine i suppose other wise we need one of them too.

The "familiarity breeds contempt" syndrome...where we hate our own players because we watch every move under a microscope, but we love everyone else's players because all we see of them are highlights.
