The occupy Wall Street movement spreads

Recommended Posts

You really have to hand it to these folks for staying focused, though. Take, for example, this quote from the story.

“We’re not done yet,” said Ben Miller-Jacobson, a 20-year-old Rochester Institute of Technology student involved in the movement. “I’m in it for the long haul. All we need are a few more church laptops and some free wifi.”

I thought they had packed it in. I've been by OWS Rochester many times and not seen a single person there. Just bird **** covered tents and a sign indicating that it is indeed OWS. The park does look dirtier right now than the old subway line, so I guess they can put that in the win column.

I´m gonna say this, as much as it pains me to say it, even though most people don´t want to identify themselves with the clowns of Occupy Movement ________ , the message HAS INDEED resonated. Income inequality and Capitalism are under siege, and what is funny and sad, is that people actually truly believe that tax policy is a major contributor to income inequality, and the belief is if you further tax the wealthy and adopt wealth distrubition policies that somehow the gap between the two closes. It´s an absurd idea, that doesn´t do anyone good. It is actually a very repressive response to our problems, all it does is enable those who CHOOSE to do less with their lives.

When Mitt Romney says that right now, there is a battle for America´s soul, he´s right. We are at an inflection point, do we decide to go down a path of European style Democratic Socialism or do we preserve capitalism as it is today? No system is perfect, we all know that, but capitalism is what made the U.S what it is, and up to now, it is by far the best economic system out there.

I´m afraid that we are slipping in the wrong direction, and the fact that you have self described ¨conservatives¨ attacking the free market economy is a very damaging development not just for their party, but for the country. I believe it has the potential to have a lasting impact and if this line of attack works with just even 10% of the conservatives, then that´s it. Social Democracy wins!

The bigger worry to me is that none of these bozos advocating "wealth redistribution", from OWS to the politicians, seen to have any idea where money and wealth actually come from.

Id love to call you a dipshit, but I agree with you.

Im also VERY concerned about how this !@#$ marxist, socialist community organizing !@#$ has started a National movement to change how this Country views wealth, how its earned and how our economic system plays out. Its not "give me an OPPORTUNITY to be as wealthy as rich people" anymore. Now its..."I dont want just an opportunity to be as wealthy as rich people....I want their actual wealth."

Even the wealthy and rich who have earned everything they have above board, ethically and legally are considered "evil" and "selfish" and having "taken advantage of others" to get that weath. The CEO of Boeing, who oversees an American company going gangbusters right now, making a ton of new hires and opening factories, gets a big year end bonus and hes on the front cover of the NY Daily News being touted as a villian.

Its disturbing on so many levels.

But if the masses intend to rise up against some fictional oppression, the best way to survive it is...to oppress them.

So as one of the 1%, I have changed my attitude and am all for wealth inequality and oppression of the lower classes. As a matter of personal survival.

Edit: And you agreeing with him is all the evidence you need to confirm he's a dipshit. :nana:

In fairness, I'm sure the Daily News also covered the Fannie and Freddie exec bonuses in that article, right?

The Secret Service was responding Tuesday night to an escalating protest that may have involved one or more smoke bombs being thrown over the White House

fence.

An estimated 1,000 protesters have gathered. No arrests have been made, but authorities are on alert.

The Secret Service also deployed a robot to check out the devices on the North Lawn. No one is currently allowed to leave through the North Gate, but those with the right access can go through the White House and leave through the South Gate. The Obamas were at dinner celebrating Michelle Obama’s birthday, but they have since returned to the White House without difficulty.

The tense scene outside the White House follows an earlier protest on the West Lawn of the Capitol, in which several hundred protesters affiliated with the Occupy Wall Street movement decried the influence of corporate money in politics and voice myriad other grievances.

Remember When The Tea Party Threw Smoke Bombs At the White House?

Me neither.

Did whatever story you cut-and-pasted that from also mention that the OWS'ers, after they threw the smoke bombs, were claiming that the Secret Service was tear gassing them? We've got that report on the radio here.

Here's a link to some video from yesterday.

Language is NSFW. Unless you work in a place where it's acceptable to yell "Fugg thePolice!" In which case, crank it up.

This is a memo my wife got at work today. She works in the Transamerica Pyramid building in SF.

Occupy San Francisco to Shut Down Financial District

Occupy San Francisco is unleashing itself all over San Francisco's financial institutions come Friday, in what protesters are saying will be the largest street protest the city has experienced since the anti-war demonstrations in 2003.

It's been several weeks in the making, ever since the Occupy Movement was booted from its encampment on Justin Herman Plaza. The group has continued meeting and making plans for Friday's event where more than 55 organizations will descend on the Financial District, and the courts. The day is being dubbed "Occupy Wall Street West."

Occupy Wall Street West actions will target Wall St. banks and corporations complicit in attacking Bay Area communities, homes, education environment, livelihood, and democracy. The activists demand that banks stop predatory evictions and foreclosures and an end to corporate personhood; and they aim to continue building and mobilizing a strategic mass movement asserting the people power of the 99% for economic justice and a better world.

The plan is to completely shut down San Francisco's financial district, timed to coincide with the opening of the stock market on Friday. It will end with a march to Justin Herman Plaza, and who knows what else.

Banks and corporations complicit in attacking Bay Area Communities, homes, education environment, livelihood and democracy?? If it weren't for these evil corporations I'd like to see what some of these Bay Area communities would actuall look like.
