Hockey Riots in Vancouver

I only saw the end of the game and the celebration, and Horton was dressed. Did he actually play?

No, didnt play but threw his stuff on after so he could celebrate

Interestingly enough, here is a clip of Horton squirting water from Boston on the ice last night before the game. Didnt think much of it at first until one of the announcers asked how he got a bottle of foreign water through customs.

Gotta say, when the playoffs started, the Bruins were the team that sacred me the most in the East, as far as the Sabres go.

Although the last game didn't live up to the rest of the series, could there have been a more dramatic playoff run for one team, than what the Bruins just did?

As usual, agree completely. After the way they played in last year's playoffs I knew Boston was probably the team best suited and prepared for the playoffs. Heck of a run for sure. Cant wait until it's the Sabres!!

Yes, discussing this on ESPN Radio this morning (M&M), all four of the Boston proteams have won a title in the span of 8 years! Pretty amazing. Factoring all the teams that have a team in all the major sports, I believe they said, New York teams accomplished this the next quickest, in the span of 12 years...but keep in mind, New York has 7 pro teams.

How about this one. I've been here for 11 years now. Prior to that, their last one was the Celtics, which was what, mid-80s? Once I show up, they get 4 hockey national chamionships, 3 superbowls, 2 world series, an NBA title and now this Cup. That's a championship per year since I came out here. Why couldn't I use this power when I was in Buffalo?

Hell hath no fury like a Canuck scorned

Hell hath no fury like a woman shopper!

At a Bay store, looters were seen grabbing T-shirts and anything else they could get their hands on. Young women were seen escaping with MAC cosmetics, with one carrying out part of a mannequin. The landmark building was filling with smoke as people, their faces covered in bandannas, continued the violence.

The Bay became a target, with windows smashed to allow looters to get to the expensive Coach and Burberry purses. Merchandise went flying into the street. Women rampaged through the main floor makeup department, tossing each other products and squealing in delight.

Thanks!

I think I actually find this refreshing. It makes more sense to destroy your city when you're mad than when you should be happy that your team won the championship. That one never made sense to me. "We won - let's burn our houses down!"

In Detroit, it's called "Any excuse for urban renewal."

If the Canucks had shown as much emotion in the finals as their fans did afterwards, they'd have won.

hate to disagree with you DC, the Canucks played just as foolishly and with equal lack of character AS THEIR fans composed themselves following the game. stupid is what stupid does, no? :flirt:

buncha suburban, entitled yahoos giving a black eye to a pretty city, a nation and the nation's national sport. sad, but not surprised given they did the same in 1994 after losing to the Rangers. this is the ugly side of Canadians. spoiled brats.

Due to socialist like upbringing they feel entitled to a NHL championship.

the two don't equate, actually. i'm hating on Canadians because i am one. i'm not trying to make this political. all i'm saying is that despite many Canadians thinking they are "superior," they actually have faults.

Want to take a wager on the proportion of suburbanites vs city dwellers in the rampage?

Every commissioner gets booed.

Not all the time...Bettman has been getting this treatment for years... it is as much an NHL hockey tradition as throwing caps on the ice when somone scores a hat-trick. There is a real sense that he has ruined the league, on the part of some. Over-expanison, failure to capitalize on the few glimmering moments the NHL had to raise its' visibility as a national, rather than regional, sport. People really don't like him. David Stern has received the same type of treatment, at times...but his league has made a comeback, in a big way...scripted or not.

Just out of curiosity, how would you prove something like that?

Fixed.

There has never been a city that has a population that feels as entitled as the city of Vancouver. No one rioted in Ottawa, Edmonton or Calgary when they were eliminated from the Stanley Cup Finals. This is a Vancouver problem. Not a Canada one.

Someone is still butthurt that this weak Vancouver team still managed to beat his lowly Sharks. Ironic that a Sharks fan is accusing any team of being "entitled".

I'm just kidding around. I can take shots at Canadians all I want because I'm one as well.

I'm not sure what the last part means but Sharks were in the final four. Better than at least 26 other teams. Hardly qualifies as "lowly". Reality is that the road through the western conference is tougher than the east. I think the best of the Sharks and the Canucks were gone. This is debatable I know but just my opinion. And the part about Canucks being entitled is only weak teasing I guess.

Vancouver PD thought they had the carnage contained, but one rioter slipped by on a bad angle and then the floodgates opened. The police chief was heard muttering something about "shoulda put Schneider on the line."

But they did it with LESS EMOTION.

If I have to walk you through it, it's less funny. Or still not funny. Or more unfunny. Whatever. !@#$ you.
