If we thought our young receiver was humbled last week, how about a guy who was a first round pick who has been inactive for the past five weeks. The Vikings line is depleted somewhat and you would assume that Maybin would like to treat his very bruised ego with some strong play and be more of an asset than a liability. Win or lose, his play in the next couple of weeks will design the roadmap for the rest of his career.

 

With respect to his contract, I understand it had a signing bonus but it was strongly incentive based which he obviously has not drawn from. Who would shed a tear if we had to cut this guy? Poz, Whitner, Jackson (new agent), and/or Fitz who are looking for some new money would not mind.

Hope you're right...but he's shown me nothing to make me think this is possible. He has been active in the last five weeks (a little bit) but he's easy to miss. He looks like a gnat out there. Maybe he finds a niche role in his career but he is well on his way to not living up to his billing/draft slot. Not his fault but it stinks for us. Dude has way more 'healthy scratches' than good plays.

I think he has to get at least one more off season - The Bills are not likely to do anything with him before the end of the 2011 preseason. Too much invested to simply dump him now. Gailey and Nix have shown the ability to cut people quickly I doubt they carry this guy into next season if he does not show the ability to play in the NFL.

He may be overpaid in my proposed position but I think he could shovel the stands from here on out, clean up the lots after games, help sell Coors Light, or do the teams laundry. I must say he is the WORST draft pick in NFL history. I cannot think of any other 1st round blunder than him. Jauron should be seen by a psychiatrist. I do agree that part of Maybin's problem (only part) is his physical development. We forget he was a junior when we drafted him. So he's that much more behind the curve than your typical drafted senior.

 

No question the Bills f**ked up by drafting him, but if Nix or Gailey thought he was a total waste he'd be gone by now. (the same may be true of McCargo.) I think Maybin's true deadline is next yesr's camp, assuming there is one.

He gained 25 lbs of muscle ("somehow") between the end of his college season and the combine. How much more muscle do you think he can naturally add? He's now working full time with pro football weight trainers and conditioning specialists. He's not going to get any bigger than he is. Give that up.

I would much rather trade him and get something back for our investment . We have just released players in the past or just let there contracts run out that we may have been able to get a little bit of something in return .

 

I'm not sure who would be interested in him seeing as any one i've heard talk about him says he just can't play at this level but i hope we would not just let him walk like we did Derek Dockery when we could have worked a trade & gotten something for the investment .

 

Maybe these last few games after sitting on his butt for so long will give him added incentive to play better than he has so there may be a bit of interest some where . Let's keep our fingers crossed , a 3rd or 4th round pick in trade would be better than nothing !!!!

Yup. We're in a position we should never have been in..waiting forever for a top 10 draft pick to mature (if he even is going to) but just b/c we should never have been in this position anyway...doesn't mean we should just be stupid and cut him.

 

We need a new DC for a variety of reasons. When they come in...make it clear to Maybin...change your body, change your mind, you have 1 year to show you are making substantial progress. Go!

While there is the Maybin is still just a little kid argument, the rookie Arthur Moats has shown more development in the last few games than Maybin has shown in nearly 2 seasons. For those expecting him to explode out of a phone booth wearing tights and a cape in 2 or 3 more years, the issue is how this guy is suddenly going to start using proper techniques, along with his impending physical metamorphosis from a WR's body into a D-lineman, when he's shown so little ability to adapt and develop so far. A gratuitous Yogi-ism: "90% of the game is mental, the other half is physical."

He's guaranteed 15 million, meaning a small amount over the next 4 years would be saved. Wouldn't put a dent in resigning any of the guys you listed. If they're going to cut him it's because they feel he's tapped out his potential and the roster spot is better used by someone else. Not to save money.
