That's a great response. I would not fire McDermott. But I am not a fan of Leslie Frazier's style of defense. And his demeanor is a little too low key on the sidelines (at least for my tastes) in running a defense. I want some emotion and fire coming from the leader of my defense. I think that can translate to the emotion passion and fire of the defense on the field. And I too trust that Brandon Beane will make the moves needed (especially on defense) to compliment our tremendously talented and passionate QB Josh Allen in giving us the best opportunity to win the trophy, hopefully next season. And yes the Bengals coaching staff (especially on defense) did a great job in their game plan and making adjustments against Tennessee and Kansas City. The Bills did not win one close game all year. Every win was a blowout. That says lots of talent to dominate lesser teams, but not good scheming and adjusting in game to win the tight ones against tougher opponents. When I think about the Jacksonville and Indianapolis losses, I get really ill.

I think you are way overthinking things about Cincinnati. What the Bengals have is a better defense then the Bills. And an amazing young kicker. Burrow is good. But Josh Allen is at another level. The Bengals have a pass rush and LB's and DB's that can stick to receivers, make plays on the ball, and hit people. The Chiefs receivers and Mahomes could get nothing going against Cinci in the second half. The Bengals play physical defense as do the Rams and 49ers. (Although Jimmy G is pretty bad.) The Bills don't play that way on defense. And I believe it cost us a Super Bowl championship this year. No way Cincinnati was stopping Josh Allen yesterday at the Ralph. And neither were the Rams or 49ers defenses. The loss by the Bills against Kansas City last week was an epic failure by the coaching staff. Someone should have been fired for allowing Kansas City to drive down the field in 13 seconds to kick the game tying FG. And then go thru us like a hot knife thru butter in OT. I am still disgusted by the collapse of our defense. Where is the accountability in the organization if noone's head is on the chopping block? Do the Pegula's and McDermott really believe that what happened is OK?

The Jacksonville game was an epic failure beyond comprehension.. That seriously tarnished our season. The only thing I can think of worse was the Colts performance at Jacksonville in the last game of the season where their playoff lives were on the line. But they have Carson Wentz and we have Josh Allen. Should never have happened to us. I am surprised that the Colts did not clean house after that loss. Why Frank Reich got a free pass after that loss is beyond me. Between that loss and him completely blowing the Monday nite game against the Ravens when he got ultra conservative to try and settle for a FG at the end of the game, he should have been canned. (I know he won the great comeback game against the Oilers in 93-God Bless him for that. But those two losses I mentioned were horrendous.) As for homefield advantage. We need to be a 1 or 2 seed to get at least two home playoff games. But regardless our defense needs a serious retooling. And an attitude adjustment of some meanness.

Its been a tough week for us all. The sadness, disappointment and bitterness is all very palpable. My brothers who live on the West Coast and I had a conference call yesterday about some business matters for our elderly father who has dementia. Well we started discussing the game, and within minutes it deteriorated to where we were all pissed and miserable again. I am just trying not to think about it. And am just looking forward to building a stronger team (especially on defense) for 2022 and believing that we will be Super Bowl champions soon enuf w Josh Allen at the helm. As for Sunday's Championship games. The NFC should be a dandy. And I will watch the AFC if for no other reason then I will have a bet on the game. And I love football. And would never miss a Championship game. But the pain inside will still be there. And that won't go away for awhile. I can't wait for NASCAR to start next Sunday. It will take my mind away from what might have been.

What about a big time DE to rush the passer? Sure Rousseau Epenesa and Basham may blossom. But none seem to be the next DeMarcus Ware, or anything close to that. And lets not bring back Jerry Hughes. He had a nice career. But as they said in Money Ball, there comes a time when everyone has to hang it up. And its time Jerry.

Dan Quinn is overrated. He did a ***** job as head coach of the Falcons. And the Cowboys defense was nothing to write home about. It never is. He is another coordinator who will get rehired in the endless regurgitation of coaches who get hired, fired and then rehired. Why Dan Quinn is a candidate for six teams pretty much shows why these teams are looking for a new head coach in the first place. They are clueless. Same with Mike McCarthy. Guy is trash. The Packers canned him, and the Cowboys jumped at the chance to underachieve by hiring him as well. Watching him run the Cowboys on Hard Knocks was laughable. As was watching him coach the Cowboys this season. I am just plain cranky right now thinking anything Bills, as most of you are. So the vitriol will have a little more bite for a while from me.

Don't be an apologist for McDermott. The offensive play calling was lousy in the first half. We could have and should have blown them out. Instead we are running a dink and dunk offense. We did not throw down the field once in the first half. And Diggs 3 catches for 7 yards!!?? Get him running crossing patterns 15-20 yards deep. NOT 2 yard outs. That's ridiculous. As good as Josh Allen was playing, as long as the O line was pass blocking decently, which they were, it should have been peddle to the metal the entire first half. Instead we waited until we were down 23-14 to throw deep. Combine that with the end of game meltdown on defense, and McDermott came up small. That being said, he isn't going anywhere. He has brought a winning culture to the franchise. Just needs to be better in big playoff games.

Levi Wallace (who really needs to be replaced and could be the slowest starting CB in the league) should have knocked Kelse on his ass as soon as he left the line of scrimmage. He did nothing just like he did on the Tyreek Hill TD. We need speed and athleticism at the position. Enuf w Levi. Time to draft a CB that can come in and compete for a starting job. Maybe that's Dane Jackson next year. But our defense as a whole is not good enuf to win a Super Bowl. I think we all saw that on Sunday nite.

Poyer looked ridiculously slow tonite. It maybe time for Johnson and Hamlin to play some. We get nothing from Edmunds week after week. He is not a game changer or even a good player. He looked absolutely lost in coverage all nite. The defense needs upgrades at several positions. I thought our playcalling on offense was conservative a lot of the game. Screen passes to Gilliam!?? Need to get the ball up the field. Josh is not a dink and dunker. Dude has a cannon. The man is an amazing player. Our defense was not good when we needed it to be. But w better coaching we win this game fairly easily.

Another accolade for Josh Allen - Best under pressure
Paup 1995MVP replied to Chaos's topic in The Stadium Wall
Wasn't there a Kelly Holcomb vs Losman debate in around 2005 or 2006 before Trent the dink and dunker came around? Ironically, I believe Edwards and Losman both ended up as backups or 3rd stringers on the Raiders for a short time. And didn't EJ also? Or was he on the Broncos? But that is a great point about Josh Allen, looking at it in the big picture. -
Chris Jones is good. But he is not Reggie White. I hate the hype that some players get. Its the same w Mathew Stafford. He is good. But he still throws a bunch of picks and is Kirk Cousins when pressured. I think Morse and Bates can handle Jones. They have noone who can stay with McKenzie on the jet sweep. Or anyone who can stop Josh when he runs. Sorenson would not even make our roster.

Perfectly said Captain H. They are a middle of the road team. They won't suck as long as Belichik is there because he is still a good coach. But we are light years ahead of them. They can keep their Donte Hightowers and Kyle Van Noy's. Heck bring back Rob Ninkovic. And Stefan Gilmore. They are all old and slow. We own them now. Is Mack Jones any better then Tua? Those Bama QB's are really mediocre when they play in the NFL. Jones Tua and Jalen Hurts. All meh. How overmatched did Hurts look against the Bucs.

Yes he does. He took Alex Leatherwood in the first round. Just because you played at Bama does not mean you will be a great or even good pro. Leatherwood is worse then any Guard Buffalo has on their roster.

That is quite a memory of the details of that game 32 years later. Impressive. Norwood was a pretty marginal kicker even if you look at his body of work other then "wide right". Too bad we didn't have Steve Christie in the Bills-Giants super bowl. I think the outcome would have been different.

I remember that Bills-Browns game very well. It was a tremendous game where Don Beebe bounced off the Cleveland dirt on his head. Didn't Jimbo throw for over 400 yards on that cold day in Cleveland? The current team just demolished the Pats. That 1989 Bills team did not have quite the firepower of this team. I think our confidence will be sky high going into KC. Our O line is playing the best it has in ages. And the Chiefs defense is not dominant or overly physical. Our D line is also getting a push, and we will need a strong push on Mahomes up the middle to keep him from stepping up in the pocket. Need to be real physical on Kelse and Hill like we were earlier this year. It will be a great game. But Josh has found the extra gear. I see him running for several big gains. Bills take it 34-27.
-
Agreed. Cinci is nowhere near in our class. Shut down Jamar Chase, rush Burrow and they are done.

Is McDermott in Belicheck’s head?
Paup 1995MVP replied to Royale with Cheese's topic in The Stadium Wall
Hyde's interception on the Pats drive was as good an interception as you will ever see. He and Poyer have had all pro years! And Harrison Phillips has become a dominating force on our defense. Does anyone remember the tackle he made chasing down Stevenson on a screen late in the game? The outcome was long since decided. But he chase Stevenson down from behind in an amazing effort play. -
The play of the O line has been the biggest awakening. In pass protection and especially in establishing a physicality in our run blocking. Do I dare say that Ryan Bates has been the catalyst this offense needed to bring a physical presence. Go Bills!!
-
That we are in the Super Bowl conversation is beautiful. Need a big game from Josh tomorrow nite to get his confidence up. Then we will be ready to take it to KC and likely Tennessee!!

I was watching some of the Jets-Texans game about a month and a half ago because I had bet the Texans. (They were at home and the Jets are lousy) Tyrod was their QB, and I started watching about 5 min into the second half. He did not get one first down the entire rest of the game. Could not complete a 5 yard out. He was terrible. And the Jets came back won the game and I lost my bet. That being said, I thought Culley got the most out of that crap team. That's a tough place to coach. I think he was better then Joe Judge for whatever that's worth. LOL

I agree Roy Batty. I am fine calling players by their real names. You call your friends or relatives nicknames sometimes. People you are close to. Otherwise an actual name is fine. The topics on Two Bills Drive have pretty much spun into nothingness. (this being a perfect example) Noone talks about hardcore football anymore. The Bills, other teams, football history. It really is quite boring to be honest. You want football watch All Madden on Fox. That's real football. Who cares about nicknames. You have to earn that distinction. The only one that matters is LT.

Anyone think the Steelers can beat KC?
Paup 1995MVP replied to bills6969's topic in The Stadium Wall
No its not. The Chiefs are going to roll over a very mediocre Steelers team 38-13. Bye Bye Big Ben. Go away. And we will see you in Canton in about 5-6 years. -
NFL Passing yards per game down - 2nd lowest total since 2013
Paup 1995MVP replied to Big Blitz's topic in The Stadium Wall
The deep ball is becoming extinct in the NFL. The good young QB's you talk about are a bunch of dink and dunkers. Teams play their safeties deep to take away the bomb. I don't thing the Bills gave up one deep pass all season. The only long passes I can think of were the crosser to Pitts for Atlanta who took off past the secondary and had about 50 YAC. And the long screen by Antonio Gibson for the WFT against us way back in week 3 or 4. Noone gets deep on us. And unfortunately we don't get deep on other teams either. Teams just don't play w safety's up in the box much, or blitzing 6 or 7 guys ala the 1985 Bears much anymore leaving the secondary exposed. As a result its one short pass after another. Nice scrambles by QB's like Josh Allen have really replaced the deep bomb. Which is good for us. But not if you loved the deep ball. I remember Roger Carr flying down that dusty dirt field at the old Memorial Stadium in Baltimore catching many a deep pass from Bert Jones in the mid 70's as a kid. That was exciting football. Football is still exciting. Just not a lot of deep balls being completed in today's NFL.
