  1. Next year will be his 4th season as GM. Yes he missed the first draft but was the architect of the roster dump we had which he hasn't replaced yet in regards to players of Woods/Watkins/Dareus caliber. So it's on him regardless IMHO. You don't get a pass for the whole season just because you weren't there for the draft. And he's the one who said it was only year 4 of the rebuild.
  2. This is a concern I have with McDermott and Beane. Only year 4 or rebuild? I would like to see a sense of urgency. San Fransisco will be in year 4 of their rebuild next year too. Amd with Rams. Yes they went down this year, but have way more talent wise than us and have more to show for it with a SB trip last year. Guys are gonna start leaving with perhaps the Tredavian Nightmare after next season and Josh Allen the following year or the next. Our D Line needs re tooling now with 3 guys up for FA. NFL teams are a revolving door. You don't get 5 or 6 years to build up your team for a run anymore. Worked in the 70s before FA but no more. Getting to the playoffs 2 out of last 3 years has been awesome, but we don't want to become the Cincinnati Bengals.
  3. I've been saying this for going on 3 years. When we traded back into the first round after drafting Josh, I KNEW it was for Calvin Ridley to give Josh someone good to throw to. Instead we draft Ray-Ray in the 5th. Last year I KNEW we'd go after some top notch WRs and draft Metcalf or somebody. Instead we pick up Brown and Beasley (not bad, but not dominant either, especially Beasley who drops too many) and don't draft ANY WRs. So now going into Wonder Boy's THIRD season we're going to get serious about WR talent? I certainly hope so. We'll see ...
  4. I remember this time last year comparisons to the Bears were seen as favorable. I know many are down on Mitchell, but he did throw for more yards at a much high completion percentage this year than did our boy. Very comparable in TD/Int. If the team struggles next year due to a harder schedule or whatever and Josh doesn't carry us, he's the new whipping boy. Just the way it works.
  5. I kindof got the opposite impression. When I watched Houston, KC, Green Bay, even Seattle rack up the points I'm thinking unless our D totally shuts them down we'd get blowed out cuz we can't score points. Until that changes, we can only imagine competing with the likes of KC, Houston, Seattle, or Tennessee. Look at the skill position players the teams like KC and Houston and have. Brown would be at best 3rd or 4th on either of these teams and our best TE whoever that is Kroft or Knox would be 3rd or 4th if even on the team. This has to change this off season. When I see the kind of offensive player acquisitions we have gotten over the last 3 off seasons and hear Beane and McDermott saying they don't want to bring in high prices FAs and build through the draft makes me wonder if we will do what we need to do get this to a championship caliber offense. Teams with talent like KC and Houston is who we are competing against if we want to take that next step..
  6. LOCK HIM UP LOCK HIM UP LOCK HIM UP LOCK HIM UP LOCK HIM UP LOCK HIM UP LOCK HIM UP
  7. Was Pettine a finalist this point? I'm not worried. Once McDaniels leaves them at the altar and a few others bow out they'll have to take who they can get, ie Daboll.
  8. This is such a bassackwards approach. IMHO. And we are seeing the results. Bottom 1/3 of the league offenses 2 years running in the Daboll era. It's nice they each other. Too bad their offense stinks.
  9. I don't know I like band wagon fans. Means you're good. After 17 years of no band wagon fans, I welcome them.
  10. If a millennial would join the military and do food service or some other non combat role for 3 years they could buy a house with no money down. I'm not a millennial, but that's what I did and it's still possible.
  11. Good point. I think Caldwell is a good coach that gets a bad wrap. Hiring Bill Bellyache assistants is such a loser yet teams continue to do it. Judge Joe is the next. Here's an article that backs up Gug's point https://www.forbes.com/sites/davidberri/2018/01/02/black-head-coaches-in-the-nfl-are-much-more-likely-to-be-fired-with-a-winning-record/#15eb62071cb8 Meanwhile, Marvin Lewis had a 16 year career in Cincinnati with .518 win %. Herm lasted 5 years in New York with a 39–41 record. The Broncos fired Mike Shanahan with 146-91 record. Jerry Jones fired Jimmy Johnson with a 44-36 record. There are a lot of factors at play here. I have no idea what the answer is. NFL - Not For Long I thought when we had a SB between 2 black coaches we had crossed the chasm on this. Guess not.
  12. Sorry, I don't do sarcasm well. Even in person. ? I hope that doesn't mean there is something wrong with me. ? Where can I sign up for said class?
  13. Like who for example? The only 1 I can think of is Raheem Morris and he went back to being a DB coach which he presently is in Atlanta.
  14. As was Rex. As was Kitchens. As was Schumur. As was Pettine. As was Marrone. As was Dave Campo. As was Raheem Morris. Tomlin's been around a long time. Dungy had a nice career as NFL HC. I wonder why that is? I'm not saying none of this exists, obviously it does, but were there any other reason these guys were fired besides race? Did you check their won/loss records? How many white coaches that were losers lasted longer than 2 years? NFL stood for Not For Long before we had black coaches. Not counting interim coaches makes me sad because we can't count Perry Fewell.
  15. But we could sure score points. Put an offense that productive with this team we are playing this weekend and possibly favored. Fat lot of good being able to pass the football did Saturday. And no one brought us back from being down. BECAUSE WE COULDN'T SCORE POINTS.
  16. I think it's both but primarily the former. 13 carries for out best guy who was getting 5 yards per on Saturday was not an execution thing. We saw this in other games too like the Eagles for example. Josh Allen already has 2 full season but still had trouble running it. The other guys had full mini camps, training camps, and 16 games. Rex Roman's offense was waaaaaaaay ahead in only 1 season much less the second one where we averages 24.7 per game. Even with better talent I'm not so sure he can get much better results. I think we can/should do better than Daboll.
  17. Saturday evening I was thinking I bet on the plane back to Buffalo McDermott is thinking "If our D was a little bit better we could have won that game. Gotta get on that"
  18. Actually, this is not true. The year before Coach McDermott and GM Beane arrived we averaged 24.9 points per game and 23.7 the year before that. I love ? tons about what Coach McDermott has done. The D is awesome. Great culture and teamwork. PLAYOFFS!!!!! But his offensive performance has been abysmal. After 3 years and a total offensive rebuild, this is the best we can do? 19 points per? Sad.
  19. Roony hired Tomlin when he was pretty dang old. How young to they have to be? Snyder is 55. The Roony Rule was enacted when Dan was 70 years old. Danged ole old guys.
  20. I just gotta wonder what that does to a guy's motivation. I know what it would do to mine. ?
