  1. When Dick Cheney, the icon of conservative politics, believes Trump is a danger to the country, people should listen. I always knew Cheney sided with America, Trump does what’s good for Trump.
  2. NATO is what has allowed peace and prosperity to occur in Europe the past 70 yrs. It’s unreal how many representatives in the Republican Party are willing to weaken that alliance to please the former guy.
  3. Kansas is a state where Trump won in 2020 by 14.6%. Republican Party has a problem.
  4. If you approach this issue from a religious perspective and believe that life and rights to life begin at conception, I can respect that. I don’t agree with it, but I’ve got friends who have that position. People can agree to disagree. The only thing you say is trust the process without explaining what your position is. Should womens health be a consideration in allowing abortions?
  5. Deek - Don’t try to paint me as some kind of pro abortion radical that believes it should be allowed till moment of birth. That’s never been my position. If we are going to play the extremist game - are you a some nut that believes womens lives don’t matter?
  6. I guess if you look at the situation from a detached point of view, Trust the Process could make sense as this is all part of the evolution of American society. Having this attitude certainly keeps your stress levels lower. Every action causes reactions. This will eventually cause unexpected changes for those states that travel down the path of strong bans that are not supported by most Americans. In the long view, I think these state laws will eventually moderate as the suffering of women becomes apparent and women vote the bastards out. Before that happens though, many will suffer. I think there is some truth the the saying that “People get the government they deserve”.
  7. On the issue, people who say you can’t trust the government to do anything right are suddenly 100% confident that women can trust their health care to politicians. The more I learn about the abortion issue, the more complex I realize the medical issues are that docs are forced to deal with in the context of these new laws. I would love to see a Republican legislature do the right thing and give doctors adequate leeway to protect the health of women. If anyone sees a model of good legislation, post it here.
  8. Hey, all of us living in a 1st world country are complicit based on our carbon footprints. It’s no easy problem to solve but it is doable. I’m not here to lecture anyone but since you asked… Personally, I drive a 2008 sedan 14,000 miles per year that gets 27 mpg. I don’t fly. I live in a modest single story home without AC and try to conserve on heating. I try to buy Made in USA and/or local when I can. Like everyone else, I’m part of the problem but I try to help. How’s your carbon footprint?
  9. After Fitz, I think Tyrod was the best drought era QB since he helped break the drought. The guy was all class and a team player. Yes, he doesn’t have the talent or skill set of Allen but I’m happy he was a Bill.
  10. Aristocrat - Sea level photos prove nothing. There is something called tides that can dramatically change the level of the ocean. You would have to know the pictures were taken at the same time in the tide cycle for comparison between years. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/factcheck/2021/04/23/fact-check-water-level-photos-dont-disprove-climate-change/7333921002/
  11. Meanwhile the forecast for tomorrow in England and Paris is 105 degrees. Temps never before recorded at those locations.
  12. Prove it with science based references.
  13. The lack of water in the southwest will be a major issue soon. https://www.latimes.com/environment/story/2022-06-14/big-water-cutbacks-ordered-amid-colorado-river-shortage “We are 150 feet from 25 million Americans losing access to the Colorado River, and the rate of decline is accelerating,” Entsminger told the senators. Avoiding “potentially catastrophic conditions,” Entsminger said, will require reductions that many water managers previously considered unattainable.” The Colorado River is running out of water and 40 million people depend upon it. Water usage reductions in the range of the allotment for the State of Arizona will be required, split among states of CO, NM, NV, AZ and CA.
  14. Good point. There are zealots on both sides. The anti abortion variety though won’t stop suing and legislating until there is a full national ban.
  15. You all can deny facts for the rest of your lives but when the history books will be written about J6, they will be base upon the results uncovered by this committee. Your grandchildren will be reading about that day from the evidence and testimony submitted by the committee. If you don’t like it, maybe Trump will write another book he can sell to the believers of alternate history.
  16. Out of state travel for abortion or national ban is what the religious zealots are going for next. We are headed for state vs state legal battles as conservative states try to prevent their citizens from traveling to democrat states for abortions and try to prevent shipping of medications for at home abortions. Abortion medication will become part of the illegal drug trafficking in those states. Dem states won’t share information with anti abortion states. No one has any idea how this will turn out. More cases like headed to Supreme Court. There is nothing in the Constitution that guarantees the right to travel. Anti abortion states will try to sue doctors and others doing legal abortions on out of state patients in Dem states. The last time there were state vs state legal battles about the movement of people was during the slavery era when southern states wanted their run away slaves back. Maybe we are headed towards an Underground Railroad to help women move north for abortions. This is far from a settled issue.
  17. The headline for the data from the same survey could read “Strong Majority of Americans Think Abortion Should be Legal”. Clearly, most people are somewhere in the middle on this issue. Meanwhile, many republican states are going to full bans, (except for health/ save life of mother) some with no exceptions for rape.
  18. This whole public harassment thing bothers me. I dont think it’s an effective means of political protest. These people protesting the court would be better off spending their time working to towards political change at the state level. Screaming at a justice might make them feel better but that’s about it. I don’t recall these types of harassment a decade or two ago. People on the right are just fine with anti abortionists forming mobs and screaming at girls and women visiting abortion clinics. Mobs carrying assault weapons and guns into state capitols. Death threats to politicians and public officials seem common now. On the left, they like to scream at people at restaurants and protest in front of justices homes. Just because you can do something or it’s legal doesn’t make it right. I think it’s all wrong and leading to a decline in our society. I think part of it is the “look at me” factor on social media. if you want to protest, stand on the side of the street and hold a sign. Peacefully march and hold rallies in public space. Persuade others to support your position. Write letters to politicians and business owners to form alliances to change laws. It’s all more effective than harassment.
  19. AOC doesn’t represent the Democratic party any more than MTG does for the republicans. They are both extremist idiots.
  20. I’m proud to say I was on the Allen train since the beginning. Outside of my family, watching Josh play gives me the most joy. I’m just glad I’m able to watch, and someday, when I’m old remember his performances on the field. What a joy.
  21. Dude, go walk onto any military base and shout that BS. I think you would get an education. Democrats have died for this nation just like republicans.
  22. Reports from operators of abortion clinics indicate that women from all racial-political-socio-economic strata use their services. As you say, “people are people” and surprise pregnancies happen. When women feel they need an abortion for whatever reason, they will do what is necessary or go to where it is provided. Bans on the procedure especially target the young and poor who are less able to travel to a provider state. Not sure what you mean here. Personally, I’m not for unrestricted access to abortion. I’m just assuming that republican politicians do not want to harm women with pregnancy complications. Thus, they should allow medical doctors to decide if such procedure is needed to protect the health of the girl/woman. No woman wants to be denied necessary medical care due to the wording in a law written by stupid politicians. She shouldn’t have to be near death to get treatment,
  23. The report ChiGoose quotes is exactly what I predicted last week. This will become a real shock to republican anti abortion women who have pregnancy complications. The political support for strict anti abortion laws is at its peak now and will only decline in the future as women and their partners, friends and parents from all walks of life, realize it affects their health care. If republicans were smart, they would craft laws that give wide leeway to doctors to determine the medical need for abortion procedures to protect the health of women. They will need to push back on the religious right a bit to do this. Otherwise, this issue is going to backfire on them. I have no faith that they will do this.
  24. I agree completely that popularity is not the rationale for their decisions. This court is forcing the legislative branch to legislate. It’s. Going to be interesting because for about as long as I can remember Congress tried to avoid making decisions. They were happy to designate some day as National Dairy Day but would avoid taking a vote on anything meaningful. Their sole purpose as elected officials had been to collect cash to get re-elected. This court is definitely changing that. When the SC sends decisions back to the states though, we may end up with widely varying laws between states. Deciding where to move to won’t just be what state has the best weather. People and corporations will need to consider many other factors that affect their quality of life.
