Your complaint about the lines is, of course, correct, but there aren't enough resources to rebuild both. I say concentrate on the oline. Also, no way I am satisfied with a receiving group that had to bring in Brown and Beasely. You need an upgrade at WR2 (Davis is fine as a #3 option,) a better blocking TE#2, and a bruiser RB to compliment Cook. That's where the resources should go. Let the defensive HC coach up the D with the best we can do after we address the offense as priority #1.

You can restructure existing contracts, but you have to be careful to avoid massive dead cap hits. It's best to restructure players who you expect to be on your team and playing at a reasonably high level for the duration of the contract. No doubt, they'll do some of that, but they're still going to be limited in what they can do in free agency. My suggestion is sacrifice some on D and commit to using both draft and fa to upgrade the oline and wr talent.

I think this is a plausible take. I am more skeptical, but I hope this is correct. Either way, next year is going to determine a lot about just where the franchise really is. For sure, Beane had better improve the oline or no coach is going to get it right.

I share the concern. Because I admire McDermott as a person and he is currently the coach of the Buffalo Bills, I hope he exceeds what appear to be his limits. All that said, Terry Pegula should have Ben Johnson on speed dial, because I suspect he is the next hot OC to get a shot at HC. How confident are you Beane can pull off that requirement? That's fine. My guess is the BIlls organization is respected league wide relative to the rest of the NFL. I don't see McD as mediocre altogether. If you think he's the equvalent of JAG who just got lucky with Josh Allen, that is the lowest evaluation. I don't think that is accurate, but you can make that argument. I surmise the Pegulas value the character and style of leadership McD maintains on a day-to-day basis. All that is laudible, imo, but it doesn't justify keeping the status quo when the game day results for the post-season are largely disappointing.

Well, I'm not really referring to wins and losses with that phrase. Quite a few media folks have commented on the quality of the Bills' staff and the environment they have built. Before McD was hired, the franchise was in disarray and did not have a good reputation league wide. I think that has changed. While there are real issues with the current regime, I don't think it is right not to give them credit for the genuine achievements. (I've already indicated I doubt it is enough just as it is to win championships.)

I don't think we can be certain that McD and Beane are the equivalent of Marty Schottenheimer or Marvin Lewis, but this year has tilted in that direction. Maybe they prove the negativity wrong. I don't think that is impossible, but I also don't think it's likely at this point. The league is built for offense. The rules are enforced for offense. The teams with offensive coaches are thriving more in today's game. No more relegating resources primarily to the defense. Build a bully oline, add talent where Josh Allen is a force multiplier. Any plan with a different priority is trending towards good regular season coach who fizzles out in the playoffs. Unfortunately, while I trust these fellas to create a winning culture, the edge you need to capture championships requires more than that.

Yet he wasn't playing that kind of qb against the Patriots and in the 13 seconds fiasco. This year, a combination of oline play, coaching, outside factors, I dunno, resulted in Josh Allen reverting to what you are talking about. It's a concern, but I think he's already shown he's capable of more mature play.

There's no way the NFL wanted this being talked about ad nauseum in the lead up to the SB.

I have zero confidence that McD and Frazier are going to change their philosophy. The best I am hoping is that the FO feels enough heat that they truly devote most of the draft and limited fa assets to improving the oline and helping Josh out. Josh and Dorsey also need to get together and decide who is going to be the grown up in the room. I hate this feeling that we are wasting prime years of the franchise qb we waited a generation for to replace Kelly.

Well, alright, if they are putting them on the rack and telling them "or else" I'll take that as an acceptable alternative.

The oline is a consensus top need across the board. Let's hope we have the resources to get it done. I think there has to be a willingness to sacrifice some pieces on D to make sure you can invest properly.

That judgment is probably largely based on post-season success. Let's see what Josh can do with a genuinely solid oline and an innovative offensive mind calling the plays. I think he's every bit as good as Mahomes, though he falls into some bad habits when he is asked to carry the team with a porous oline and decent, but not exceptional weapons (outside of Diggs) at his disposal.

This is the best case scenario. And this is the most likely case.
