Absolutely no reason to hate on this kid.

I have speculated Simpson because he does seem to match up perfectly with their ideal. Jack Campbell is closer to the Platonic ideal of LB, though. I think when God thinks LB, he thinks Jack Campbell. (I'd be happy with either. Drew Sanders is probably in the conversation, too.)

If there is an offensive lineman worthy of 27, I am not against it. I think you can get the same quality that is going to be available there in this particular draft at 59. I've been strongly advocating for improving the oline and protecting Allen. It would be tedious to search, I suppose, but if you look through my posting history it will be evident that I agree on the optimum end result, but I think your strategy is not the most prudent. WR talent in this draft alas is below that of recent years. Maybe somebody falls or you reach a bit on Hyatt, for instance. I do agree that WR is one of those positions you give the benefit of the doubt to in the first.

In general, RT is not a position you dedicate a first rounder to. Picking a RT at 27 isn't justified by past failed picks. It is only justified if the player you select merits that high a pick. I don't think it likely the board will fall that way. There's a good chance this is a draft where you trade down if you can find a willing partner. Otherwise, BPA is usually smarter than reaching for need. I want to improve the oline and give better weapons to Josh, but that doesn't equate to taking a fella a round or two early just because he plays a certain position.

The Cincy game & its affect on how we view the team
Dr. Who replied to Success's topic in The Stadium Wall
There's little question that the cumulative effect of weather events, injuries to key players, serious health issues, and personal tragedies combined to diminish the Bills' play over the course of the season. The numbers for Dorsey's offense were not bad, but the game plans were uneven and he did not make use of the tools available to him. The weakness of both the DL and the OL eventually sunk the team and by the Cincy game, Josh and Co. were running on empty. Dorsey will have to make a leap. He may or may not, but there's no self-evident reason that he won't. I think adding another quality TE will be helpful and allow the implementation of more 12 personnel looks. We also need to bring a bruiser RB into the room. Personally, I'd like to upgrade WR 2, though I am not certain OBD feels that way. Hopefully McD taking over the D gets more out of the relatively unimpressive young DL acquisitions that Beane has spent quality picks on. Don't be surprised if they use a first round pick on a LB to replace Edmunds. I've been meaning to ask you if you still think there is a viable steady state cosmology, and is it true that Niels Bohr was addicted to pistachios? -
They definitely need to add to the oline, but if you get a guy who could play RT and G, you have some insurance in case Brown struggles as much as he did last year.
-
Bates is a candidate to replace Morse, imo.
-
I am puzzled why they didn't go after Seumalo. At risk of crusading, I'll stop after this, Matthew Bergeron is a solid round 2 target, because he has positional flexibility and could be used at both RT and G.
-
You can get a good RT prospect in rounds 2 - 4. They won't and shouldn't spend a first on the position. Potential LT is a different story, of course.
-
It's just a joke. You tend to take everything far too seriously, or perhaps that is just your schtick. Sabres on the Warpath, but maybe not so much the rest of this season!
-
Poor Devon Levi. The minute he signs on, the Sabres decide to go retro epic disaster.
-
How in the world do you get that meaning from what MrEpsYtown wrote? Drafting RT (or any position of need) in the first round regardless of whether it is a prudent expenditure of draft capital at that spot is what leads to mediocrity. It's the strategy involved that is basis of critique. It says nothing about drafting a RT or valuing the oline. In fact, the fella you are quoting is one of the best on this board at analyzing oline talent, imo.
-
Just throwing out a plausible name. Fella above your post suggests Drew Sanders. Whether it is the correct draft strategy or not, I suspect that is the direction OBD is inclined to pursue.
-
I think Trenton Simpson is more likely the pick at 27 to replace Tremaine unless maybe Dalton Kincaid or a wr they covet falls to them. Round two is the more likely spot to grab a RT. I've been pushing for Matthew Bergeron -- seems to my mostly uneducated eye that he has some positional flexibility, so G and RT are possibilities.

The Cincy game & its affect on how we view the team
Dr. Who replied to Success's topic in The Stadium Wall
There may be some small regression record wise in the regular season. In substance, the team needs to become an offense that can thrive where Josh Allen is a force multiplier of the weapons around him. One can accept Allen putting his body at risk more frequently in the playoffs, but if there isn't a real basis for another modus operandi during the season, he'll be ready for the glue factory in a few years ala Cam Newton. Hopefully Dorsey improves and accomplishes a more integrated offensive game plan where all the tools are used and the run and pass game compliment one another. (This does not mean abandon the primary pass offense; that would be ridiculous given Josh Allen.) We'll see if McDermott embraces a less passive defense and if the draft picks develop beyond utterly mediocre along the DL. Post-season success is the measuring stick for coaching regimes. I suspect McDermott will have to fail by that standard several more times before he would be replaced, but the criteria of playoff victories is the only one that really matters when you have a franchise qb. -
He does seem a good choice and the third round is the sweet spot if you think as I increasingly do that they are likely to expend one of the first two picks on lb. That would allow the other top pick to go hopefully towards wr or oline, though you know they'll be itching to add a 3-tech DT or yet another edge rusher that can't get to the qb.

Yes, the dome part was just a joke. -

If we don't know what cleats to wear in Buffalo weather, they sure as hell better decide to put a dome on the new stadium. Seriously, someone needs to be fired if they were clueless about adapting to the snow. -
Another fella here has been recommending Tucker Kraft, South Dakota State TE, who is probably around a third round grade. I'd be surprised if the position is not addressed in the first two days, especially given the quality available this year and Dorsey's assumed desire to employ more 12 personnel in the offense.
-
I think there are reasonable odds OBJ ends up with the Bills.
-
Beane seems to prioritize getting rid of all the holes. I think it's better to accept a few weak spots in the roster makeup if that is the needed price to go get elite talents that impact a game. We always seem to have a team that lacks glaring weaknesses, but also has fewer top end talents than other teams that are contenders for the SB.
-
I think I'd rather take a gamble on Simpson going by your analysis.
-
I guess they are different style lbs, but what's your view of Campbell vs. Trenton Simpson? They both look like good picks to me.
