Fella with a handle of IronMaidenBills most certainly has a different taste in music from me, and I think there's something a bit jejune in his hyperbolic rhetoric, but I also agree that Beane ought to feel urgency to make a significant move if there is one to reasonably be had (or even a little unreasonably . . . )
Years ago, I used to work in a Christian bookstore. Old folks would come in and ask for a large print, compact Bible. I'd tell them, you can have the tiny Bible or the large print, but you can't have both. Seems to me the Cardinals wanting not to retain any salary and also receive higher draft picks is the equivalent. No one is going for that, so compromise or maybe carry an expensive disgruntled WR on your roster for the year.
Beane appears to be banking on Brown's athleticism and the view that injury set his development back. I hope his optimism is well-founded, but I would protect against it maybe not going that way by drafting a potential RT relatively early (not the first.)
They definitely need to improve the oliine. McGovern and Edwards if healthy could raise the iol to competent which is a huge upgrade from last year. They still need to add. A day one or two pick needs to be brought in at minimum.
The higher the cost on Hopkins, the more Jeudy becomes an option, imo, though they lost a key wr to injury so I'm not even sure he's still on the table. Also, to be honest, I have more faith in Hopkins, so there's that.
I'm guessing you lose a lot at poker.
I'm totally on board with acquiring Hopkins. You don't have to pay that much.
If it doesn't happen, I doubt it's a compensation issue.
If you're that particular, you'll just have to wade through like a picker at a swap meet.
Yes, the rumor at least was compensation would probably be closer to the Cooks deal in Dallas. It's worth a third, though.
I don't know. I read probably somewhere upthread that he had posted with regards to another player* information that turned out correct.
Sometimes, I think these fellas just get lucky. He's good at sounding authoritative. I write fiction. Voice is more than half the battle.
*Just above me, that thing about David Edwards.
