  1. TE in the first two rounds has a significantly higher success percentage. There's a lot talent at the position in this draft and I think we need one so Dorsey can fully implement 12 personnel.
  2. I live near Athens, so you may conclude I am biased. So be it, we'll both be indifferent to the others opinion then. Cook is a solid back. It would help if our oline were better at run blocking which is a definite deficiency. Guess we'll see this upcoming year who is more correct.
  3. I'm not really sure he's better than Zeke -- or so much better it's worth giving up a third. I think his success against us has skewed the sense of the player Harris is. But I do like the signing all the same. He definitely fills a need for a a tough runner that can hit the end zone.
  4. Cook is likely the lead back. His 5.7 ypc is excellent and he is a receiving threat. Keep saying stupid things and folks are going to conclude you are dim or a troll.
  5. In another thread, I posted the following Rx for what is still needed for the offense. Someone like Matthew Bergeron, a fella that can compete for RT with Brown and has the capacity to move inside to G. Sign OBJ. Draft a TE who is a good blocker and is some threat as a receiver. Knox is the only really quality TE. 12 personnel needs two and I think Dorsey might actually make use of the possibilities there. I do agree that so far they have made some good moves, but they are not sufficient. And still, they also need to find an Edmunds replacement. Wagner is still out there. The best lbs in the draft are going to go early second, I think. We also need DT. Not sure it all can be accomplished, but I would go all in on offense this year if you have to choose.
  6. Draft someone like Matthew Bergeron who could compete with Brown and can potentially move inside to guard. I still think signing OBJ makes a lot of sense. Then go get a TE who can block well and is some threat as a receiver. 12 personnel requires two good tight ends and right now only Knox qualifies.
  7. Well, I agree, but I don't think I said anything with that connotation, though no doubt there are those who hold that sentiment. In my view, Beane is a good GM, but he could be better and he may become better. In general, as I stated before, my main criticism is that I think he over values "filling all the holes." It's not a bad thing, but I think he should shift his criteria somewhat in favor of hitting on difference makers. I also believe in today's NFL, you shouldn't ignore the defense, but I would pitch the balance over towards the offense, especially when you have a generational talent like Josh Allen at qb. I'm pretty sure @Kirby Jackson and @GunnerBill will agree with me on this, among others, though I could be mistaken.
  8. I’m ignoring teams that have bad records and get compensatory picks. I am interested in the good teams that qualify for them and continually maintain winning records. NE* is somewhat down now, but I include them for the early 2020s as representative of the tail end of over a decade of success. Imo, Baltimore, Kansas City, and San Francisco are able to accomplish the feat because they consistently draft well. Beane is not at their level. 2020: NE got 2 third rounders and 2 sixth rounders. Seattle got a third, a fourth, and a sixth. Baltimore got a third and a fourth. 2021: NE got a third and a fourth. Dallas got a third and a sixth. San Francisco got a third and a fifth. The Rams got two thirds and a fourth. Baltimore got a third and a fifth. Kansas City got a fourth and a fifth. 2022: Baltimore got a third and a fourth, San Francisco got two thirds, two sixths, and a seventh, Kansas City got a third and a seventh, LA Rams got a third, a fourth, and two sixths. 2023: San Francisco got three thirds and a fifth, Kansas City got a third, a sixth, and a seventh.
  9. Other top teams seem to find a way to get the comp picks on a regular basis, so there is a method that allows one to accrue them. It's a genuine asset, so the GMs who are clever enough to stack them while building and maintaining a winning team are ahead of those GMs who lack that ability. I think Beane's prioritizing having someone to cover every weakness with at least adequate ability requires FA investment on low level but decent pros. It keeps you from ever really being a team that gets comp picks. That is one thing. The other is that Beane's mindset extends into the draft where he typically goes for safe solid picks, but then those picks fail as often as they hit. He should allow for some weaknesses and go after top end playmakers. The teams that succeed more often than not in the playoffs have more of those than the other good teams that make the post-season.
  10. Well, I would love to snag Matthew Bergeron in the second, but I suspect he won't last till 59 and we don't really have enough draft picks to move up. I think he can play both G and RT, so he gives you competition for Brown and a potential IOL.
  11. I think this is all true, but the weaknesses in some areas were significant deficiencies, so marginal improvement or status quo is not sufficient. OL, TE, WR, DT and LB still need addressing. We'll see what Beane does. LB is a real worry as it stands. I would be unhappy without one of the better rookies or a fella like Wagner, yet I will be more discontent if getting weapons and protection for Allen is relegated to low level FA signings and second and third day draft picks. Whatever Beane does, he should prioritize getting playmakers and solidifying the oline even if it means allowing for a weakness here and there in the roster.
  12. Lavonte David resigned with the Bucs. Chiefs signed Tranquill.
  13. I think we need MLB, OL, WR, and TE. Based on visits at the combine, Bills are also looking at DT. You can't address all that adequately even with trade backs in the draft. I hope the stress is offense, but I don't really believe this bunch is capable of it. If he falls a bit, I think Dalton Kincaid is an interesting choice at 27.
  14. Beane would have to work some trades to get one of Campbell, Simpson or Sanders early second and Bergeron, but I'd be happy if he did. Then grab a TE like Tucker Kraft for 12 personnel and sign OBJ and it's a good day.
  15. Alright, what I meant was that the options available don't link up with the value. Beane will have to trade down. If you stick with 27 and 59, you don't get a LB that can potentially step in and replace Edmunds year one.
  16. The problem with your board is that there are three LBs worth drafting, imo, Campbell, Simpson, and Sanders -- 27 is too high for all of them and all of them are gone way before 59.
  17. I think Lamar is unreasonable, but if I am the Falcons, I'm definitely taking a shot.
  18. No, keep them the way they are. I like irony.
  19. I think OBJ is the better possibility. I suspect they want to use 27 or trade back a bit from there if they can and grab a LB.
  20. OBJ or trade for Jeudy.
  21. Absolutely no reason to hate on this kid.
  22. I have speculated Simpson because he does seem to match up perfectly with their ideal. Jack Campbell is closer to the Platonic ideal of LB, though. I think when God thinks LB, he thinks Jack Campbell. (I'd be happy with either. Drew Sanders is probably in the conversation, too.)
  23. If there is an offensive lineman worthy of 27, I am not against it. I think you can get the same quality that is going to be available there in this particular draft at 59. I've been strongly advocating for improving the oline and protecting Allen. It would be tedious to search, I suppose, but if you look through my posting history it will be evident that I agree on the optimum end result, but I think your strategy is not the most prudent. WR talent in this draft alas is below that of recent years. Maybe somebody falls or you reach a bit on Hyatt, for instance. I do agree that WR is one of those positions you give the benefit of the doubt to in the first.
  24. In general, RT is not a position you dedicate a first rounder to. Picking a RT at 27 isn't justified by past failed picks. It is only justified if the player you select merits that high a pick. I don't think it likely the board will fall that way. There's a good chance this is a draft where you trade down if you can find a willing partner. Otherwise, BPA is usually smarter than reaching for need. I want to improve the oline and give better weapons to Josh, but that doesn't equate to taking a fella a round or two early just because he plays a certain position.
  25. There's little question that the cumulative effect of weather events, injuries to key players, serious health issues, and personal tragedies combined to diminish the Bills' play over the course of the season. The numbers for Dorsey's offense were not bad, but the game plans were uneven and he did not make use of the tools available to him. The weakness of both the DL and the OL eventually sunk the team and by the Cincy game, Josh and Co. were running on empty. Dorsey will have to make a leap. He may or may not, but there's no self-evident reason that he won't. I think adding another quality TE will be helpful and allow the implementation of more 12 personnel looks. We also need to bring a bruiser RB into the room. Personally, I'd like to upgrade WR 2, though I am not certain OBD feels that way. Hopefully McD taking over the D gets more out of the relatively unimpressive young DL acquisitions that Beane has spent quality picks on. Don't be surprised if they use a first round pick on a LB to replace Edmunds. I've been meaning to ask you if you still think there is a viable steady state cosmology, and is it true that Niels Bohr was addicted to pistachios?
