Sign Tyrod Now! (Or Not?)
Bill from NYC replied to MarlinTheMagician's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think that another coach would cut down on undisciplined penalties, and employ a sane defense. I am of the opinion that Tyrod is good enough right now to win football games and bring a team to the playoffs. I can't say the same for Rex or even Whaley, who is often sanctified on this board. -
Sign Tyrod Now! (Or Not?)

At this point, TT is about the only thing that can save the Bills. I hope they redo his contract today. Between injuries and suspensions, the roster keeps on getting thinner, and this is before any contact. Not good. The GM is way over his head and we have one of the worst coaches in the league, if not THE very worst. The last time I felt this down on the team entering a season was the year AVP was the starter for a while. I know almost all of you cannot see it, but I sincerely believe that Rex will not last the season. We shall see. -
What is Gilmore actually worth to the Bills....
Bill from NYC replied to billrooter's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Once again I say that if Gilmore is half as good as some of you think, teams would be beating down our door to trade us a first round draft choice for him. Look, it IS a passing league, and a team WILL pay him, but he is certainly not worth the 14 or 15 million per year he will want. I would rather take the first round pick and pay Tyrod. This team will probably win 5 games or less if Tyrod isn't good or gets hurt. I happen to have a lot of faith in him and would strongly prefer spending the big bucks on a quarterback than giving Gilmore a huge guaranteed contract. -
As I have said many times, there were players drafted who were a lot worse than Whitner, but Whitner was the worst pick I can remember in semi-recent history. The 2006 draft was just stacked with very good players at a host of positions of need. Levy/Jauron set the team back for many, many years with their awful, disgraceful draft, and one could easily predict the disaster that ensued.

Do you, or does anybody remember Dan Brandenburg? My memory is sketchy, but here is what I got: He was drafted in 1996 in round 7. I remember thinking he was small for a DE but his combine numbers were good. He was fast enough to play lb. No problem! When he hit the field in preseason he had qb sacks galore. He seemed to have blazing speed and good strength. I thought he was a freaking steal and couldn't figure out how he lasted until round 7. He looked like something special, until the season started..... He made the team and was absolutely crushed. He was pancaked at will on the rare occasions he played at lb, and never had a sack. He did last a few years on special teams, although I saw him get beat up there a couple of times as well. How about a thread about players that Bills fans KNEW would bust out?

Help Me Propose Bills Style
Bill from NYC replied to BillsShredder83's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Fumble the ring? Just kidding, best of luck!!! -
My view is a tad different. My last cigarette was smoked 0n 10/15/15. Before that, I was addicted to tobacco for decades. I remember smoking was relegated to obscure areas of RWS. You couldn't even see the game on TV. Then, they banned it entirely. Some posters here loved it, and still do. I warned people back then that soon, something YOU like will be banned. Some people want to, before a game, drink alcohol in a parking lot and maybe even smoke a joint. I don't smoke weed and it's been quite a while since I had a beer, but I can see how some people feel that there privacy is being invaded. Or, at least many feel hindered from doing that they choose to do. When you think about it, it's hard to make a case for weed and booze in a parking lot, right? I suppose it was also hard to justify second hand smoke exposure, even in remote areas of an outdoor stadium. But, the government needs scapegoats and they want more revenue from taxes and fines. If anyone hasn't noticed, your rights are slipping away, unless you belong to one of several protected interest groups. Oh and btw, other than drivers, I don't care who smokes weed and drinks in parking lots at Bills games. I will still like you even if you dare smoke a cigarette. :) PS: With Rex as the coach, I expect weed, alcohol and tobacco usage to rise.

This is an interesting take on the Levy/Jauron years. The thing is, they built the team starting with the secondary, and ruined it in 2006 with that awful draft. Schobel was a fine player and a very good pass rusher. Jauron had him lined up so wide he was almost out of bounds, and had him in coverage quite often. At the time, he was probably the only good pass rusher we had. Staring with Pettine (who I wish was still here), I really thought the passive defenses were gone. Now, here is this blowhard who talks trash and has 100 million dollar linemen running away from scrimmage, while he is calling them "bullies." Then, why not bring in his brother?! It's unbelievable.

Yes and I have alluded to this in other posts. Neither Ryan nor Jauron is defensively aggressive. I can't believe I am even typing this but I think I would actually prefer having Jauron. The Bills were an undisciplined mess last season. People can display every color coded chart on earth but it was painful to watch this team. They were sub-par AND had lots of talent. I for one have lots of faith in Tyrod. I think Rex will be fired approx. halfway through the season. Hey, I hope to be wrong. Maybe Rex will coach this team to the playoffs. I wish I was able to even see this as possible.

Bandit, the above is 100% true, no doubt. Still, the difference is that Gilmore has a body of work to which to refer. If he is as great as you may (I don't know) think, what would be the problem? Would teams be unwilling to pay Brady because Carson Wentz is cheaper? Would they be unwilling to give up a draft pick AND a contract for Luck, Miller, etc.? For the record, I think that Gilmore is good. Do I put him in the class of a game changing defender who deserves to be the highest paid player on the Bills? Of course not. He may or may not be the best corner on the team. Of course, the above is jmo.

Vic Carucci describes the media's crush on Rex
Bill from NYC replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Very consistent. Blame Bills Fans for Ryan being a poor coach and a farce. Do you wake up and blame Bills Fans when it rains or snows? -
Riverboat Ron gets a New Three Year Contract
Bill from NYC replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Jauron was an complete, utter disgrace. Rex is just as bad. He has defensive linemen running backwards and jumping around like ballerinas, while telling us what "bullies" they are. As bad as Jauron was, he was easier to tolerate than Rex, but of course this is jmo. -
Tryout Player Renfrow Signs with the Bills
Bill from NYC replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It sure does. -
I would prefer a pass rushing defensive end. There are less humans who are big, strong and fast enough to play DE. There are more who resemble Leodis McKelvin. I do however appreciate the premise of your post. I do not believe that Gilmore should be the highest paid player on the Bills. He is a good corner, not a superstar. Personally, I expect Whaley to break the bank for Gilmore and give him virtually whatever he wants. If Whaley can actually refrain from over-spending on Gilmore, I will re-think some of my critical statements about him. Btw, if Gilmore is just THAT great (as many here surely believe) he should fetch us AT LEAST a first round pick, right? Well, under those conditions, count me as a proponent of trading him AND drafting a first round corner (if they like one) with the extra pick. Sound like a plan?

Cigarettes. I haven't had one since 10/15/15. If I had one today I would smoke 2 packs a day by Sunday, even though it would more than double my chances of death, according to my neurologist. That said, if anyone wants to try and quit you CAN do it. If I can quit, anybody else can.

First time in years I'm not as hooked.
Bill from NYC replied to TC in St. Louis's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I will yet again watch every play of every game. That said, I haven't felt as bad about a team since the year that Van Pelt started a chunk of games for us. All the color coded charts on earth will not make me think anything is OK wrt the defense. It was a sad, sick joke last season. Now, our #1 pick has a pre-packaged injury. Tyrod, imo, is going to be a very good qb some day, but maybe not for the Bills. Did they get him a #2 wide receiver? How many games will Watkins miss? How much does Karlos weigh? Who is playing RT? RG? Ryan did nothing to help this kid on offense. The team plays with no discipline and is run by a circus clown (Rex), a free spending kid in a candy store with a questionable at best strategy (Whaley), and a carnival barker (Brandon). It ain't pretty. -
Miller was pretty bad which was strange because I thought he looked good early in the season. Looking back, many of the great teams had a standout right tackle. Guys like Bob Brown and Erik Williams (I think the best ever) really made a huge difference on their teams. I never looked it up, but I always felt that teams that Jon Runyan played on did pretty well. Whaley can say what he wants about Kujo, but even as a huge Tide Fan I couldn't grasp that draft pick. Mills looked pretty bad to me and yes, Seantral IS talented, if he's ok.
-
A pass rush and a RT would work too. How long has it been since we had a good RT? Peters before he moved to the left? Jonas Jennings? I honestly think that Pears looked better than the crew at RT last season. EDIT: Badol, do you consider the RT position more or less important in a passing league? Must he be more agile with the smaller defenses?

Ryan's Defense: DL-men in Coverage
Bill from NYC replied to Ronin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I totally agree with this post. Mario is a huge defensive end, and is suited to rush quarterbacks. This is why few active players have as many sacks as he does. Marcel probably weighs 360 or more. He is not a pass defender. Rex took a capable, talented defense and destroyed it. -
Ryan's Defense: DL-men in Coverage
Bill from NYC replied to Ronin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Didn't you read the previous page? Kyle Williams had an interception in game one of 2014!!! Doesn't this prove that Kyle in coverage is a great idea, or do you want me to switch my screen name to one which originated as a tribute to JP Losman, and break out color coded charts to prove that Rex's defense is great? -
Ryan's Defense: DL-men in Coverage
Bill from NYC replied to Ronin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, and failing to take into account linemen simply standing still, protecting an area. This after claiming the team would be "Bullies." Even more sickening is the abuse the OP has to take from pseudo football intellectuals for having the nerve to have an opinion that differs from their kool aid driven, color coded, boring as all hell drivel.
