C.J. Spiller healthy now after 36 carry, 2 TD season
Bill from NYC replied to Saxum's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Rascals, yes, nice catch! I hope he chimes in on this thread. Manning was an all time great, but look at who was drafted the year before him: http://www.drafthistory.com/index.php/teams/colts Meadows was very good and Glenn was great. Also, a hall of fame wr and rb didn't hurt. Today, the qb is actually much more important. I realize this but if it was up to me, I would have got more help up front for Tyrod in this draft. I view this as more important than an injured Lawson, but that's just me. -

I agree with the last 2 sentences. Absolutely. But CB, bad draft choices are the primary reason the Bills suck. I will not go over them one by one because you are right. I can't go back in time and change these stupid moves. But as far as Bulaga vs. Spiller (which I did not bring up), I doubt if even TBD's spokesman for the "He-Man Bills Fan Hater's Club" would say that he thinks Spiller was the better move. He would wiggle in a few insults to Bills Fans, but that's about as far as he could stretch it. PS: I hope I am NOT the only one who knows where that quote comes from. -

First of all, are we getting all out of sorts? Now, who is our current RT? Anybody as good as Bulaga? I'm afraid not. There are numerous threads on this board where people lament the FACT that the Bills suck at the RT position, and this is certainly true. Otoh, right now there are at least 2, perhaps as many as 4 running backs who are at least equal to Spiller, and I was kind with the word "equal.". And for every "A" game he has, Spiller will lose a team more than A game. So yeah, give me Bulaga, faults and all, over Spiller in any scenario CB. Come on now, really! -

Welcome to my world. :) I was going to post this. Can we please have another countdown? And maybe another for 10,000 yards rushing, no? -
I gotta admit, it DOES appear odd that the seemingly one time you are not all over the place praising the Bills, it comes in the form of an slight to Karlos Williams. It IS interesting e-man. Big Cat loves Rex, and seems to think that going from 54 to 21 sacks isn't really a big deal, but he throws a bit of sarcasm and skepticism in the way of Tyrod, another ray of hope in Rex's chaotic mess. I am NOT insulting you guys either. I'm really just trying to understand, and it isn't easy. Have a wonderful weekend! This is a great time of year and when it's over we get to see the Bills, (and for those of you who partake, the Tide )

This might very well be the case, but he was one of the best things to watch on the Bills last season, week after week. I don't know his combine numbers, be he sure looked fast for a bruising, punishing back, dontcha think?

RLB, jmo, but I would not place Thurman in a class with those 2 backs. Barry and McCoy make people miss with their moves. Thurman did too but I think his strength was the ability to SEE and get through a hole, He seemed to spot a hole as it was forming. He also was an all purpose back who was even great in pass protection. And let'sce facts, Thurman was a much tougher guy than either of them. Btw, I would be hesitant to sell Karlos short. I am not a fan of Whaley. I make than clear on this board but Karlos was a fantastic draft choice, and I credit Whaley for selecting him. And Badol is right.....it just makes sense for bigger backs to physically pound these smaller defenses, and it works. Imagine Karlos slamming into Kiko at full speed, with a 5 yard head start!!! I knew Spiller was a nightmare from the day he was drafted. I also thought Rob Johnson would be a great quarterback.

I am very sorry for this bad news.

Doug Whaley comments going viral

How did I know that you would come in and insult the fans? You shouldn't be a Bills Fan. You ruin almost every thread on this board by coming in and insulting other fans. You should root for the patsies. Maybe their fans would be able to reach your lofty expectations. -

Please stop. Is it really necessary to get all out of sorts because I don't feel like kissing the ass of the stooges that run this team? At least I really do like Bills Fans, you know? -

Look, I am not trying to define right and wrong. But, if a player is seriously injured (which is bound to happen), I think he can go right into court and sue. Will he win? Maybe not but it would cost Pegs money to defend himself, no? Or, he could win. Frivolous lawsuits don't always lose, ya know? And, I politely and respectfully disagree. I think that both Pegs and Goodell would prefer it if he had simply kept his mouth shut. Again, this is jmo. PS: Do you think Saban would do something like this? -

So you think that Mr. Pegula or Roger Goodell don't care that Whaley said this? -

Again, do you think Mr. Pegula is happy about these comments, which btw are now the talk of Sirius Radio? He left the door WIDE open for civil suits. Also on Sirius, they are talking about how he declared 3 rookies to be "starters" even before training camp. This probably wasn't very motivational to the other players, right, or is this me being petty? On TSW, we are talking about him knowingly drafting an injured player in round one. Darby WAS a great draft selection ya know, but Whaley is causing harm to the team that just might take time to undo. The stupidity is pushing any positive moves to the side, or so I think. Of course, the above is nothing more than my opinion. I am sure that many here think Whaley is great. If we win football games, I will be one of them. -

No, you are NOT an idiot. The comment was true. That said, would you be happy that he said this if you owned the team and had billions of dollars that someone could sue you for? Yeah, I know the game was violent well before he made these comments. But this will be used in court some day, or so I think. It was an ill advised comment by a rank amateur. Go ahead, categorize me. -
I agree with the above, but I don't think that it is the issue. This kid is guaranteed millions of dollars. Excuse me for being greedy, but I care WAY more about the Bills making the playoffs than I do about Shaq's career. If he misses 5 games, he comes back in week 6 as a rookie. This isn't a great situation. For another team it would be far less catastrophic, I will give you that. The Bills however are not in a position to take this kind of risk imo. I don't know how old you are, so forgive me as I take you on a trip down "Bills Bad Memory Lane:" In 2003, the Bills had the 23rd pick in round 1. Their offensive line was as bad as one could imagine. A very good guard, Eric Steinbach, dropped down and fell into their laps. He went on to have a wonderful career and would have been a big boost to the Bills. Well instead of Steinbach, Donohoe drafted an injured Willis MaGahee. He missed 20 games before he saw the field. When he did play, he was "good." The problem is, the Bills were not, and continued to screw up most drafts, no matter who was the GM. So, count me as one who is rather skeptical of intentionally drafting injured players, and now you know the reason (btw Kujo is another prime example). GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are the Bills really in "Win Now" mode?

Are the Bills really in "Win Now" mode?
Bill from NYC replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes, and throw in the fact (whether fans like it or not isn't the issue) that Whaley trades away draft selections and it does appear that they are in fact trying to "win now." Imo it makes what is happening with this team that much more pathetic. -

He was always a great kid. I was hoping the Bills would draft him back then and wish him nothing but the best. -
The Nattering Nabobs of Negativity
Bill from NYC replied to racecitybills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes, yes and yes!!!!! The above is what this board is about, and I believe why it was established. Sorry if it is boring, but I have a story of my own to tell: When the Bills signed Shady, I looked at his age and stats and it sure sounded like a good move! I was happy . Then, I read the opinions of some on this board. It was pointed out that his stats were declining, he was (as we all are) getting on in terms of wear and tear, and Whaley threw millions of (cap) dollars at him for little to no reason. As a Bills Fan who is fully accustomed to despair, my elation soon faded and I was yet again dismayed. What a surprise! Now, does the above scenario make me a fanboy or a negative nancy? Or perhaps just a person willing to consider the views of others? As time went on, it was clear that Shady had talent, but also flaws in his game. Additionally, the pass happy NFL defenses appear to be getting smaller, thus creating better opportunities for bigger backs such as Karlos, and hopefully the kid we drafted. Then, Shady goes to a club and gets jammed up. But wouldn't you know? The cops were a bunch of scumbags; Shady is a nice guy and was a victim. In reality, it shouldn't matter if the cops WERE scumbags. McCoy got himself jammed up! And there is ZERO reason not to suspect he will have some sort of a repeat performance. I'm going to go out on a limb here and tell you that this is how life works. I have seen it over and over, thousands of times. My point? It's ok to change ones mind. Otherwise, why talk to each other? We could just play tapes of things we said 10 years ago!!! And Badol, time will tell wrt Whaley. Everybody loves him now because Darby is "good." And hey, Darby is VERY good. In fact, he is one of my all time favorite draft picks EVER by the Bills! Imagine, getting a top corner NOT in round 1? Who ever thought..... Sorry to ramble but yes, it's about dialogue. Many good friendships have been formed by the dialogue here. GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -

My hope is that after this thread ends, people will resist being critical of every poster who doesn't absolutely love Rex, Whaley, etc. Maybe some will even think twice before blaming actual fans for the Bills woes, and insulting them for being unhappy with the nauseating state of affairs. And Badol is correct. We ALL have our own set of coping mechanisms. We have to.
