Sammy was toast here. They got something out of him rather than just letting him play out his contract.

In how many of those games was he playing hobbled? Between his chest injury and his ankle he was gator-arming passes or just not able to get open a lot. I wish I could objectively look at the Watkins trade in a vacuum, but I can't. Every thought of that trade is colored by the fact that the previous regime wasted a FIRST rd pick to trade up and get him. If they hadn't done that, I could look at the trade and think "yeah he's good, but he's fragile and has an inflated sense of worth, we likely won't re-sign him." In that light, trading a former 1st rounder for a second rounder and a player who at least theoretically could be a decent fit for this defense doesn't look so awful. But, even though it's illogical, when I see that dude getting traded all I think is "there go 2 1st rd picks for a second rounder and a question mark." The Darby trade I have less of a problem with, neither player is amazing and we are getting a pick.

I dunno why people get so hostile about culture changes. Culture is real. I'd venture a guess that most of us have been in situations where one group of similarly talented people managed to accomplish something that another group could not. Often, it comes down to people having a better attitude, being supportive of those around us, selfless teamwork or just having the cojones to pull a win out of a loss. Sometimes a mediocre teammate can really up their game when supported and valued. A single person can mess with group dynamics, that's why it's so important to identify and get those people out of the building asap when coming in to a new situation. Figuring out which people are mediocre teammates that can up their game and which are pulling down the people around them can be hard. That said, yes you need talent.

It'd be nice if the guy could play a full season. He'll go somewhere else and carve out an average career between injuries for way above average money.

Trade: Marshawn Lynch. Got run out of town and proceeded to become one of the best players in the league. In the meantime we wasted a 1st rd pick on CJ Spiller.

Always seemed like a good guy who was a pretty decent scout and shouldn't have been promoted past that point. By all accounts he wasn't a great leader or communicator. I don't hold it against him that he was promoted beyond his abilities. Would have been nice to have just cleaned house when the Pegulas took ownership of the team, but at least they are making moves now.
