If we sign no one else of note, we absolutely can't go Defensive End at 30. With the additions of Bosa and Hoecht to replace Miller and Smoot - we've filled the holes at Defensive End and upgraded from them. But we have a glaring hole at starting boundary CB (and need another boundary CB to replace Elam), need 2-3 more DT's (unclear whether Ogunjobi is viewed as a 1T or a 3T here, but I feel Jones needs to be replaced and regardless we had 3 going out and 1 coming in), and a hole at Outside WR (Cooper and Hollins going out with only Palmer coming in). As things stand right now, we've adequately filled DE and S in Free Agency. But CB, DT, and WR are 3 positions that definitely need help. I know you should go BPA, but you can't Draft a 4th starting quality DE when you need that much help elsewhere. Someone at one of those 3 positions of need would meet value at 30.

He is honestly the #1 Outside WR left in Free Agency. It's him or Stefon Diggs (and that probably ain't happening) and then a pretty large dropoff. I think it boils down to whether we're keeping 6 or we're keeping 5 like we did the last couple seasons. Also where they're planning to take a WR. If we're keeping 6 and they don't think they're going WR in the first couple rounds - I'd be open to it. The wrist injury he sustained was recommended to have surgery on it. I believe this is why he was used as sparingly as he was. He has experience with Josh and the locker room and if healthy, I think he'd be a much greater contributor. But if we're keeping 5 and/or taking a WR in the first 2 Rounds - then no. But I do believe if we aren't bringing Cooper back, then we definitely should Draft a WR in the first couple Rounds. An Outside guy with Speed. As I feel like Cooper and Hollins going out with Palmer and a Day 3 pick as replacements isn't enough juice.

Honest discussion of our D Line
BillsFanForever19 replied to GASabresIUFan's topic in The Stadium Wall
I'd think if we did, it wouldn't be in Free Agency. Or at least not anything at the level of a Fowler. Fowler isn't signing somewhere to not start. Same goes for Bosa. And someone would have to be 3rd there. Even without Epenesa - who I don't think we're in a rush atm to move on from. And you're not paying someone like Hoecht at 3 years, 24m for the amount of reps Javon Solomon got last year as the 5th guy. If we did sign someone, it would be a Dawuane Smoot, Casey Toohill type guy who wouldn't cost much for the limited role and would be fine with an off the bench rotational role, who wouldn't be guaranteed a roster spot. I think if we were to add at Edge, it would be more likely in the Draft after Round 1 if the board fell right. Then, maybe if the Rookie looked really good right out of the gate, we'd move on from Epenesa. -
Okudah is perpetually injured. He's never played a full season in his career. He had to sign a 1 year, 4.5 million prove it deal with Houston last year. And on that prove it deal, he injured his hip in Week 1 and ended up spending most of the year on Injured Reserve. Played a total of 6 games with no starts. He's no one anyone can count on for anything at this point.

Jags trade Laviska Shenault to Panthers
BillsFanForever19 replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall
If he's replacing anyone, it would more likely be KJ Hamler or Jalen Virgil on the Practice Squad. -
That's why he's a camp body. Not everyone signed right now is going to be an impact starter or even guaranteed a roster spot. And Shenault is one of those that are far more unlikely to make the roster than someone who would. It's not like he prevents us from signing anyone else or that we chose to bring in Shenault over a Superstar. We have to bring 90 bodies to camp and Shenault is just one of those guys.
-
Yeah, camp bodies get signed during the first week of Free Agency too. But when it happens, people freak out.
-
Agreed. But it's another Returner in Camp. Like I said, I see him as a camp body. He's very much in line with the kind of flyers we threw at guys like Claypool and Cephus last season.
-
Beat me to it 😛 I see him as competition for Brandon Codrington more than anything else. If he proved to be a better Special Teamer, they'd prob keep him as a 6th WR and carry 5 CB's instead of it being the other way around last year. But more likely just a Cephus/Claypool type camp body like last year. A once big time prospect now looking for a Camp opportunity to prove himself somewhere. Far more likely to not stick then stick. Could possibly stick on the Practice Squad, as he did ending last year with Seattle.

Beyond it not making sense for us, giving how many Slots and 50/50 Slots we already have (between Shakir, Samuel, and Kincaid - as well as occasionally sliding Coleman inside on certain assignments) - it really doesn't make sense for Kupp either. He was let go in large part of the redundancy of his natural position they had in LA with Puka Nacua - choosing to keep Nacua. He's not going to sign somewhere where he'd run into the same situation, for the kind of "everyone eats", split starter role he'd have with Shakir. I don't see us paying what he's asking for the role he'd have here and he's going to want to go somewhere where he's "the man". And we didn't sign Shakir to the extension we signed him for to take second fiddle to someone else and/or not be utilized as much from his natural position.
-
Even if this wasn't a red flag, I questioned if Samuel was the kind of Cornerback a coach like McDermott would want. Samuel is like a Poor Man's Deion Sanders. A guy who is pretty good to very good at times in coverage, but is a pretty poor tackler who seems to want to avoid hitting. Which this ailment he was born with may explain.

They also brought in Kingsley Jonathan a month ago. They're big fans of our year end Practice Squad DE's.

Bills Offseason moves to date & Projected Roster
BillsFanForever19 replied to GASabresIUFan's topic in The Stadium Wall
Hoecht will probably be moved around. But his base position would be Defensive End, not Defensive Tackle. He was brought in to Pass Rush from the Edge. -
Except he's perpetually injured. He's never played a full season. The Texans signed him to a 1 year, 4.75m prove it deal last season... and then he went on IR after the first game. Ended up playing 6 games all year, no starts.

Back at 1 year, 2 million. Yikes. Talk about a rough league assessment when testing the market.

Joey Bosa signs with Buffalo. 1 year, $12.6 million
BillsFanForever19 replied to Draconator's topic in The Stadium Wall
And on the other point - if they decided to release Leonard Floyd before they had Joey Bosa on so much as an agreement (when they could have had him pen to paper, as he was released) - they were going to do that regardless. That was also coincidental. But the "story" of them looking dumb by cutting him because they thought they had Bosa locked up is more fun. Albeit surely inaccurate. -
No. He's not a reporter. Just a follow for follow fan. Any account that you can't find any credentials for and has a 16,000+ follow count v. 17,000 followers is an immediate red flag.
-
I think that would depend on what his market is and/or what the plan is with Benford's extension. Cornerbacks cost a fortune this year. And I feel like Alexander would top the list. I don't know that they'd pay what Alexander will cost and pay what Benford will cost at the same time. I'd be here for it though.
-
For the millionth time, that's a bs account. Not a real reporter. Just go through their other tweets. You'll see them announce deals that haven't happened. Doesn't mean we couldn't sign him, as he's still available (although I question his fit with a McDermott team). But there's been nothing to say that we are actually trying to make that happen.
-
I love these trade ideas for the top superstars in the sport. Like "Maybe we can get Ja'Marr Chase"? I bet there's fans on other boards that say things like "any possibility we can get Josh Allen?". Even amongst the players who are talked about being available for trade or request a trade - more often than not they aren't traded (see Myles Garrett and, to date, Trey Hendrickson). There hasn't been anything about Bosa. He's on Year 2 of a 5 year, 170m extension. A lot of these moves you're seeing San Fran do is so that they can hold on to Bosa, McCaffrey, and pay Purdy. They're not trading him. He's the face of their franchise and the best DE in Football. Even if he was made available - we just paid Greg Rousseau an 80m extension. We just signed Joey Bosa for 12.6m. We just signed Michael Hoecht to a 24m 3 year deal. We wouldn't then pick up a 35m a year Defensive End and give up the insane amount of picks it would take, that we'll need to use at other positions, after already addressing Defensive End in Free Agency and Extensions. If we were going to do something like that, we wouldn't have made all 3 of those moves.

This says to me that he didn't have a market. It doesn't make much sense for either side. I thought if anyone could use a change of scenery and a fresh start, it was Damar - after everything that hangs over his head here. And we definitely want to either start Cole Bishop or upgrade. With us bringing him back and signing Forrest - it tells me he didn't have any takers and playing for a roster spot here was his best shot at sticking. And I don't think that's guaranteed.
